Will thankfully won the toss on the hottest day of the year and elected to bat. Seb got the team off to a good start hitting a quick 30 before feathering one behind in the fifth over. Jamal came to the crease looking to cement his place at the top of the league run scorers and didn’t disappoint. Once he’d found his feet he played some super shots and accelerated to 90 off 99 balls before holing out. Nosh played the anchor role at the other end stroking 9 fours in his 64. Jack, Foysol, Ahmed and Will scored a combined 90 off 70 balls to set the Mote the daunting task of chasing 291 for victory.
As it turned out the only resistance from the Mote came from their skipper Warren Jackson (38) and Howard Waters (65). All our bowlers hit decent areas as we made our way through the Mote top and middle order. Once Howard had fallen to an incredible catch by Ahmed at mid-wicket off the bowling of Ivan, victory was there for the taking. Ivan and Senny duly wrapped up the 20 points in quick time as The Mote were bowled out for 135 in the 36th over. It was great to have Ivan back leading the attack with 4-35 – and he should have had more but for a couple grassed chances in the slips.
After the blip vs Bromley last week it was great to win so convincingly and consolidate our position at the top. Up the club!
