Blackheath hosted Bickley Park 3s at Queen Marys on Saturday and promptly won the toss and elected to bat. Joe Kerridge & Joe Ryan established a solid start before Kerridge was bowled by Hewitt with the score on 53. Ryan and Purdey then pressed on before Purdey needlessly ran himself out on 10 with the score at 92. Ryan was batting beautifully justifying his return to the 3s from a week in the 4s! Disaster struck for Blackheath at 35 overs with the score at 135 when persistent rain became heavier and an early tea was taken. An extended break ensued until play resumed at 4pm in glorious sunshine. Ryan selflessly hit out and gave up a certain hundred being caught on the boundary for 94. He was ably assisted by the middle order especially Simon Martin who scored a valuable 25. Blackheath declared once scoring 200 after 47 overs. For Bickley Park, Barton bowled very well early containing the scoring rate and bowling tight lines while later on Chris Hewitt was the pick of the bowlers, with his wily cutters proving trouble for the batsmen.

Bickley batted after a short break for innings and good pressure was applied throughout by Blackheath. Good straight bowling in the channels elicited wickets bowled, LBW and caught in the slips. All of the bowlers chipped in and in the end 42 overs were able to be completed in the time remaining. Bickley Park finished on 9/79 with Blackheath unable to dislodge the final wicket required for the full quota 20 points despite having 4 balls at the number 11 who defended bravely. An “incomplete” result yielded 13 points for the heath.

Third place Nonington beat first place Cowrdey to leave Blackheath sitting 13 points behind Cowdrey and 5 points in front of Nonington, promotion is still in our hands with a win against Cowdrey next week essential!
