Coming after a near scare in the 2nd round of the Diamond Jubillee knockout at Blackheath golf club (4 down with 5 to play and won on the first extra hole), Purdey proceeded to lose the toss to the Walmer skipper who decided to bat. Blackheath started well with Carter and Wyatt tying down the openers before Wyatt struck.
Staunch resistance was provided by Birkett who was batting well before Ifti deceived him with a slower one which he hit straight to Gilly at cover. Blackheath kept chipping away eventually dismissing Walmer for 121 in the 31st over.
Wyatt was superb with 9.5 overs, 7 maidens, 6 for 11. He was full and straight and got the ball to move both ways. He was ably assisted by Ifti (2 for 38) and Mamanur (2 for 27). After the loss of Turner and Price both to LBWs at the barracks, Blackheath were teetering at 17 for 2.
Foysol Ahmed batted superbly with 54 not out assisted by Purdey with 49 not out to get the boys over the line with 48 overs remaining. Good win and puts Blackheath back at 1 win 1 loss after 2 rounds. Off to West Wickham next week.
Up the club!
