Gafa's Weekly Round up - The Whole Season

18th September

The curtain has finally fallen on another cricket season. It seems like only yesterday, that I was oiling my willow in eager anticipation, but alas, it was all over in a flash. I hope you all enjoyed your cricket, and I look forward to seeing you all at the End Of Season Dinner at The Club on the 18th October, £20 per head, with payment available on the night. The last game of the season, saw our young lads loose in the Final of the Readers League Cup, at the New County Ground in Beckenham on Sunday. I'm sure the nippers will have gained a lot of experience, which should stand them in good stead for the forthcoming seasons. A very creditable performance, considering some of the teams that were defeated on the way to the Final.

SCOREBOARD

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Hayes by 5 wickets [Readers League Final]. Blackheath 181-7 in 40 overs, Hayes 182-5. Firey 75 hope he's still in this form, come April. Warren Lee 36 belies his tender years. That's it folks. Thanks for taking time to read all this old dribble, and hopefully I'll be back again, on these pages, next season. UP THE CLUB! We'll meet again, don't know where, don't when, but I know we'll meet gain some sunny day. GAF. .

12th September

The League campaigns have come to an end, and typically the weather has improved as I sit here, naked, writing these notes, with a pen in one hand, and little Norman in the other. It has not been the greatest season ever for Blackheath C.C., but progress has been made, with many new faces joining The Club. It looks promising for next season. The First XI finished 6th, the Second XI 5th, the 3's conquered all in site, to win the League and promotion, whilst the 4's in the first season in the League finished a creditable 3rd.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI beat Sibton Park at home by 3 wickets [Kent League]. Sibton Park 111 all out, Blackheath 115-7. Riaan vdM 17-10-14-3 worth waiting for. Deano 27 including a majestic 6. Firey 40 doesn't want the season to end. Swaddy 30* steadied the ship.

Blackheath 2nd XI drew with Sevenoaks Vine away [Kent League]. Sevenoaks Vine 213 all out, Blackheath 100-8 in 50 overs. On a wicket that was half soaked and half baked, arguably the worst track that has ever hosted a Kent League match. Weazel 4-48 normal service has been resumed. Gaf 3 stumpings happy days! Junaid 23, JT 37* ended up looking like elephant man, after taking two balls on his boat race.

Blackheath 3rd XI No game

Blackheath 4th XI beat Orpington away by 87 runs [South Thames League].Blackheath 251-4 in 48 overs, Orpington 164 all out. Dave Farnell 93 Yorkshire grit. Hami 30 ever reliable. Tom Archer 61. Graeme McQueen 3-29 ripped out the top order.

Just one more weekend left for cricket, and hopefully our young Sunday 1's can put more silverware in our trophy cabinet, as they take on Hayes in the Readers League Final this Sunday at the new County Ground in Copers Cope Road, Beckenham, 1pm start. All support is very welcome, so make sure you get yourself along, and roar the boys on to victory. UP THE CLUB! C U @ the Final… GAF. .

The (Gafa) bulletin is back, a little later than usual as I'm still in holiday mode, but I'm gradually switching back to reality. You'll all be glad to know, that I'm suitably tanned, and my white bits will be on show after the match on Saturday in the shower, so feel free to come and have an inspection. I have returned virtually free of infection as so have cancelled my standing order to the pox clinic. That's enough about me. First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS to our victorious 3rd team, who won the League to become CHAMPIONS for the second consecutive season, gaining promotion again. Fantastic! Due to the excellent reports from my deputy that have kept you updated, I've produced a special "performers of the last fortnight" item.

PERFORMERS OF THE LAST FORTNIGHT

In no particular order Calners 6-20 and 4 catches if only he could bat! Woodsie bowled well on his 1st XI debut his old man will be proud. Nosher 41 just like the old days. Mortgage 35 and Wilco 32 ran well. Watty 6-23 and a fantastic one handed diving catch. Rupee 3-16 the old master. Firey 31 still blazing away. John Olufawo ½ century he's performed well in the 4's, 3's, 2's and 1's. Next year . he'll be in the 0's. Mortgage 45 and 3-29 wot an all rounder. J.T. 48* from the Chair. Watty 4-29 ever reliable. Short and sweet this time. Don't forget the Sunday 1's are in action on the 15th September in the Readers League Final, all support is very welcome. Also, the end of season dinner is booked, so get your name down. UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip… GAF.

The 3s were celebrating on Saturday (see below) after winning their second title in two years. Knighty's team had only lost 1 game all season and are now promoted to the top division of the South Thames League where they will face the best third teams in the area from clubs such as Bromley, Dartford and Orpington

SCOREBOARD

1st Team Blackheath 170 for 8 lost to Bickley Park 171 for 1 An afternoon of leather chasing as the oppo knocked off the runs in only 35 overs but with other results working in the Clubs favour Blackheath retain first division status (never in doubt - ed)

2nd Team Blackheath 177 for 8 beat RACS 147 all out Another 20 points in the bag as the 2s maintained their end of season form. Gnosher 23 and Hutchins 19 provided the start before Morgan 45 and JT 48* made sure a good total was posted. Watty 4-29 went over 30 wickets for the season and Morgan took 3-29 to wrap up the win

Mumbles, Ruba, Dodson, Lee, Taylor, Abed, Mahony, Dimmick

Wilcox, Williams, Watts (Capt), Luff, Hutchins

3rd Team Blackheath 175 for 8 tied with HSBC 175 all out Blackheath were contained early on by an accurate home attack and James Crutcher 23 and Hamish 33 were forced to play patiently. Gilly 46 provided the backbone and supported by Valentine 16 and Windsor 17* ensured a competitive total was posted. Second placed HSBC were soon behind the run rate as Tommy Gaydon reached 33 wickets but after drinks started to take more risks. Windsor bowled well in a marathon 18 over stint to take 5-38 to check the progress. In total darkness 8 were needed off the final over with an injured batsman at the crease. A dot ball followed by a 2 and a big 4 through midwicket seemed to have won it before the last man was run out by Gilly's through from long on chasing a second winning run. Great match played in a good spirit

4th Team Blackheath 164 all out beat HSBC 43 all out A comprehensive victory for the 4th team as they close in on a top 3 finish. Runs were shared around with Warren Chamberlain top scoring with 33 supported by McQueen 28, Hurdy 25 and Farnell 20. HSBC were then flattened with Adrian Jamwal ripping out the top order to finish with 4-9 and Oscar Chance mopping up the tail with 2-10. Hurdy engineered a fantastic run out and the 20 points were in the bag.

Hurdeep, Frindall, McQueen, Crutcher, Farnell, Archer

Jamwall, Senn, Valentine, Dodson, Ruba

Sunday 1s Blackheath 132 off 35 overs lost to Simba 133 for 4 off 21 overs The Sunday side were beaten by a more experienced team in a good match. An accurate attack kept the runs down with only Abed Ahmed 30 and John Olufawo 20 really getting going. They then knocked off the runs with Barry Lee the most impressive of the Club bowlers

And finally.....the drinking continued into the early hours in the quality surroundings of the Cactus Pit, Gnosher's yellow shorts looked the part and Deano once again played his shots this time with an older ball and far too much tequila was consumed….Up the Club!!!

26 August

Blackheath 1XI 123 all out, lost to Broadstairs 1XI 126 all out The first teams faint chances of promotion were ended in a last over thriller. Calners 6-20 starred with the ball as promotion rivals Broadstairs were bowled out. Mel Ragnauth 25 and Fiery 30 provided the start but with three run outs proving costly the 1s ended up just 4 runs short. With two games to play the 1s are sixth and a positive result against Bickley on Saturday should ensure safety

Blackheath 2XI 159 all out, beat Lordswood 2XI 43 all out The 2s topsy turvy season continued at the Rectum with a rout over promotion chasing Lordswood. Good batting from Gnosher 41, Morgan Mahoney 35 and Wilco 32 put on 55 in 10 overs and frustrated their attack. Watty set the example taking 4 wickets in his first 10 balls before ending up with 6-23. Rupert 3-16 provided the support as none of the Lordswood batsmen reached double figures. The boys were back in the bar by 5:30 and the opposition back on the M2. The 2s are safe in sixth place with two games to play

Blackheath 3XI 155 for 7, beat Ex-Blues 151 all out The 3s were made to work for their victory by a bad tempered opposition. Ex Blues were reduced to 106 for 9 before a last wicket stand pushed their score up on a poor pitch at Wanderers. Kam Raja 3-26, Jason Windsor 3-34 and Steve Smith 2-16 sharing the wickets around. Symon Dawson 39 gave a solid start, Hamish Purdey 51 looked to have sealed it before a mini collapse was rescued by a sensible 16* from Paul Valentine. The 3s are top with a game to play - against second placed HSBC, where 4 bonus points will secure the title

Blackheath 4XI 233 - 7, lost to Hartley 4XI 235 for 7 Good batting performance with the openers Warren Chamberlain and Mike Curry both scoring 70s in a stand of 155 and Hurdy chipping in with 21. Captain McQueen, John Dodson and youngster Alex Fenn all picked up a couple of wickets as defending on a small ground with only 9 men at the end proved too much. Brilliant run out from young Shakib Ahmed. The 4s are mid table with 2 games remaining, a great effort from a new team.

Don't forget CLUB DINNER is on 18 OCTOBER!!

21st August

Typically, the start of a full programme of soccer fixtures coincides with the warmest weekend of the season so far. Whilst we've been playing cricket in near winter conditions, all summer, the football season begins, and the sun finally comes out. Despite the better conditions, it didn't help all our League sides. The One's and Two's two flagged in the searing heat of the day, but the Sunday XI's did a little better. A great chance of some silverware this season, as our young Sunday 1st XI reached the Final of the Readers League. Hopefully we can take a large crowd along to support our boys on the 15th of September at the new county ground in Beckenham, and roar them on to victory.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Whitstable at home by 74 runs [Kent League]. Whitstable 220-7 in 50 overs, Blackheath 146 all out. Jerms 4-90 the penetrator! Firey 56 blazed away in the afternoon sun.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Gore Court away by 4 wickets [Kent League]. Blackheath 169-6 in 50 overs, Gore Court 171-6. Nosher (the ice cream man) 44 made the oppo sweat.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat RACS at home [South Thames League]. Blackheath 117 for 3, beat RACS 3XI 116 all out Good performance from the 3s bagged another win. Tom Gaydon continued his recent good form 4-55, Rupert Hill 3-22 showing how it should be done and Luffy reached 32 wickets for the season. Steve Willcox, 62, knocked off the runs in quick time.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI beat Bromley at home by 108 runs [Readers League]. Blackheath 198-7 in 40 overs, Bromley 90 all out. The mighty Bromley (Kent Premier League Champions) were humbled at the Rectum, as The Club finished top of their group, unbeaten, to qualify for the Final. Omar 63 wise old owl. John Olufawo 50 this fella's made of runs. Warren Lee 3-13 and still improving. Barry Lee 2 large 6's and 3-15 must be in the genes. Alex Senn 3-24 only 13 years old. A star is born, praise the good Lord.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Bromley away by 10 runs [Friendly]. Bromley 233, Blackheath 223 Sam Leslie 103 keep an eye on him. Jim Hands ½ century.

The date for the end of season dinner has been announced. Friday 18th October 7:30pm. Price yet to be confirmed, but should be under/or £20. There is a list by the notice board , which you all need to complete to confirm your reservation. So don't delay… the last one to put their name down buys a round for everyone attending. I'll be on the jugs, so watch out it could be your missus! No bulletin for the next couple of weeks, as I'm off on a wicket keepers vacation, to some sunny Mediterranean Island, where I can soothe my broken hands. However, I expect to be reporting on many victories and heroic performances in my absence, when I next pen these pages.

UP THE CLUB! Ciao… GAF.

14th August

No League action for our First XI, but the others all engaged in battle against a backdrop of storm clouds.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 2nd XI Vs RACS away match incomplete [Kent League]. Blackheath 129 all out, RACS 128-7 in 45 overs. A cloud burst around 3pm, and the reluctance of the home team to resume promptly, resulted in insufficient time for the whole match to be completed. As it happens, it turned out to be a very close encounter, 9 runs being wanted for victory off of the last over. John Olufawo 80 the backbone, and an excellent running catch in the dark. Watty & Chucker repeatedly beat the bat. Woodsy 3-38 with a few spilt catches.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Old Colfeians away by 9 wickets [South Thames League]. Old Colfeians 97 all out, Blackheath 98-1. Tom Gaydon 8-42 absolutely destroyed them. Wilco 29 nudging the selectors. Knighty 38* Captain Marvel. Granddad Luff 18* watch his average rise.

Blackheath 4th XI lost to Old Dunstonian/Cuaco at home by 111 runs [S. Thms Lg]. Old Dunstoinian/Cuaco 177-5 in 48 overs, Blackheath 66 all out. The 4's had a rare opportunity to play at the Rectum, but unfortunately didn't make best use of the hallowed turf/weeds. Joe Cannon 4-56 shot a few batsmen out.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI Vs Bexley away [Readers League]. No report.

Blackheath 2nd XI Vs ? at home [Friendly]. No report.

Perhaps the biggest story this week, was the absence of regular 2nd team opener Dave Wilson. It appears, that he has left the club, after selection committee had picked the teams for the weekend. This fellow has been the spine of the 2nd XI batting for nigh on the last decade, and I for one, will miss playing alongside him. Love him or loathe him, he always gave 100%, and his track record is non too shabby. I only hope he has a rethink, and comes back to entertain us all once again.

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip… GAF.

7th August

The end of a very successful cricket week, irrespective of the results with most of our members enjoying some cricket. Indeed, we actually fielded two sides on Sunday, and long may it continue. The Floodlit 6 A Side Competition was a huge success, and now seems to be an annual part of our cricketing calendar. Good to see Trevor Dimmick enjoying the local brew… some may say he enjoyed it too much. Whilst Omar was flapping like a mother hen as the white balls were being hit out of the ground, as his supply diminished.

SCOREBOARD

Cricket Week

Tuesday: Blackheath/England beat Blackheath/Rest Of The World by 3 wickets. Rest Of The World 144-5 in 20 overs and 204 all out, England 143-9 in 20 overs and 206-7. A fantastic start to the week, with an edged 4 winning the match off of the last ball of the game, and in doing so Lee Jenkins (England) collected the champagne for MOM. John Olafawo (Nigeria, RoW) 80 and 65 and 4-9 in 2 overs his early departure from The Rectum, surely cost him the MOM. Weazel (England) 2-4 in 2 overs little tinker. JT (England) 37 cultered? Graham Hutchins (England) 29 dispatched it. Redders (France, RoW) 28 took root. Gaf (Malta, RoW) 24 swashbuckler. Wilco (England) 28 didn't appreciate the chirping. Jason Windsor (England) 75 a royal performance. Firey (England) 24 scorching! Omar (England) an outstanding 6 to change the course of the last over. Kam (Pakistan, RoW) 3-29 slithered it past the batsmen. Hamish (Australia, RoW) wonderful running catch from the skipper.

Wednesday: Blackheath/Calner's Casuals Vs Blackheath/Torby's Tigers rained off. Calner's Casuals 12-1 before the rain.

Thursday Blackheath lost to MCC by 114 runs. MCC 244-4, Blackheath 130 all out. John Olafawo 47 the only high point for The Club.

Friday London Floodlit 6 A Side Competition. Blackheath lost to Kent U21 and Kent Board, but beat Finchley in their group, but were eliminated in the first phase. Teddington beat Saffron Waldron under the lights in the final to lift the trophy. Our boys did leave a lasting impression, with Riaan vdM taking an excellent catch. Whilst Weazel won the wine (cos we can't afford champers) moment, with an even better sprawling catch in the deep.

Team Sheets from cricket week

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI beat Sandwich Town at home by 3 wickets [Kent League]. Sandwich Town 164 all out, Blackheath 168-7. A good bowling performance all round secured victory, and the promotion (one match at a time please - ed) push is back on. Swaddy 3-20. Calners 3-44. Jerms 40 batted responsibly. Swaddy and Warren Lee batted out for the win.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Whitstable away by 64 runs [Kent League]. Whitstable 200-6 in 50 overs, Blackheath 136 all out. Rupee 3-52 long spell, sweated up in the paddock. John Olafawo 49 accomplished. Watty 36 wonderful stroke play, including a majestic 6.

Blackheath 3rd XI Vs Sidcup at home rained off [South Thames League]. Blackheath 1-0 in 1 over before the rain. A lovely tea consumed, and the 3's are still top by 28 points.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Orpington away by 23 runs [South Thames League]. Blackheath 206-3 in 48 overs, Orpington 183 all out. Redders 82* and 4-20 what more can I say. Dave Farnell 72 nice! Hurdy 23 about bloody time! Justin Jamwal 3-16.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI Vs Meopham at home rained off [Friendly]. Blackheath 105-2 before the rain. Senn 26* on his debut.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Greenfell away by 3 wickets [Friendly]. Blackheath 159-9, Greenfell 160-7. Hands 33. Johgnny Dodson 27 never lets you down. Jafari 2-24. Jafari 2-29. The Legend Charlie Mumbles once again, donned whites and engaged in battle… worth the admission price alone!

To cap the eventful week off, various members of various XI's gate crashed the fancy dress party at the Rectum on Saturday night. Unfortunately the only way to gain admittance was to put our underpants on our heads, which didn't exactly help our chances with the fairer sex, but at least it kept the blue bottles away from the buffet! Phew… a longer bulletin than usual due to cricket week. So I'm off to bed with a cup of cocoa and my boxing glove on.

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip… GAF.

30th July

Before I start my usual ramblings, I have been asked to point out to ALL members, that the bowling machine available on Wednesday evening nets, is for everyone who would like to work on their batting technique. So long as one of our qualified coaches is on hand to operate the machine (Paul Frith, Mark Calnan, Chris Swadkin etc), then it doesn't matter if you open regularly for the First Team, or play occasionally for the 4th XI, you are all welcome to make use of our wonderful machine.

Indeed, some of you may even fancy becoming a qualified coach yourself. If this appeals, then see me or Chris Swadkin, and we'll set the wheels in motion. The hottest weekend of the season so far, and nearly a full house of League wins for all our XI's, the only side to miss out on the points feast, were the 4's, yet they still managed a convincing winning draw. We're obviously a bunch of fair weather cricketers.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI beat Harvel away by 8 wickets [Kent League]. Harvel 199-9 in 50 overs, Blackheath 201-2. Comfortably out playing the oppo. Swaddy 3 wickets. Bambi 49 coming of age. Raggers 45 scoring regularly. Deano 53* has an eye for the small boundary. Jerms 32*.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Gore Court at home by 3 wickets [Kent League]. Gore Court 141-8 in 50 overs, Blackheath 145-7. Stradders 6-31 unbelievable! Barry Lee 35* quality debut, kept his head whilst everyone else panicked.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Bromley Common at home by 8 wickets [South Thames Lg] Bromley Common 166-6 in 48 overs, Blackheath 168-2. A good bowling performance with wickets shared around. Knighty 53 leading by example. Symon Dawson 53 his maiden ½ century for The Club. Old Man Luff and Hamish saw the oppo off with red inkers.

Blackheath 4th XI drew with Bexley at home [South Thames League]. Blackheath 254-6 in 48 overs, Bexley 184-6 in 48 overs. James Crutcher 37 solid support. Paul Valentine 48 in good nick. Tom Archer 69 bullseye! Abed Ahmed 55 and 3-25 good effort. Johgnny Dodson 2-20 in 9 overs mean and moody.

It's cricket week this week. So have fun, get some runs/wickets/catches and dismissals, but above all make your way to the bar…… and buy me a drink.

UP THE CLUB! C U @ the crease… GAF. .

24th July

A right old mixed bag of results this weekend including 2 ties. Now you don't get many of them to the pound do you?

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI drew with Canterbury at home [Kent League]. Blackheath 222-8 in 50 overs, Canterbury 157-7 in 50 overs. A good performance, outplaying their opponents on all counts. Raggers 50 likes the opening slot. Firey 72 making sure the total was posted. Swaddy 43 years of experience. Silky and Warren Lee cameo knocks at the death. Stand in skipper Jerms 5-54, will Omar get back into the side? Gareth Honor 4 dismissals will I get back into the side?!?

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Canterbury away by 7 wickets [Kent League]. Blackheath 114-7 in 50 overs, Canterbury 115-3. Sergeant Wilco 34 run out on a shuttle throw, attempting a 4th run. Mortgage 21.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Lordswood by 72 runs at home [South Thames League]. Blackheath 179 all out, Lordswood 107 all out. A good batting recovery after being 78-7 at one point, as the oppo dropped 8 catches. Hamish 31. Barry Lee 55 patient. Tommy Gaydon 24 valuable runs. Kam 5* in a stand of over 50 for the last wicket. Paul Gilliam run out off a no ball…..hmmm, but making amends with 3 dismissals. Kam 5-29 but has been known to bowl better!

Blackheath 4th XI tied with Gravesend away [South Thames League]. Blackheath 167-5 in 48 overs, Gravesend 167 all out. What a match! Redders 62* I always knew he was a batsman. Warren Chamberlain 42. Matt Bonnetti 32 in quick time. Captain Fantastic McQueen 7-57 bowling the last batsmen, with the last ball of the game……wow.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI tied with Dartford Halls at home [Readers League]. Dartford Halls 184-9 in 40 overs, Blackheath 184-8 in 40 overs. Although the game ended in a tie, Dartford Halls fielded an illegal player, and Blackheath lost fewer wickets than the oppo, so we are waiting for the League to clarify the result. Calners 3-22, leading by example. Redders 3-22 must think he's an all rounder now? Firey 66* he's alight….. call the brigade.

Now for some scandal. Two club members giving the fellas something to talk about this week. Firstly a second teamer, who spent about an hour in O'Neils sweet talking a Margarita Prackatan lookalike, (and asking for back up!) only to find out she didn't speak English. Then there was the third teamer who tugged an old router, and got interrupted in a compromising position, by the girl who was hosting the Birthday bash at the club. It certainly leaves a nasty taste in your mouth!

17th July

A win for our League 2's, but the other three League sides all suffered defeats, this weekend. Hopefully normal service will be resumed next weekend.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Whitstable away by 39 runs [Kent League]. Whitstable 184-9 in 50 overs, Blackheath 145 all out. The topsy turvy season for the 1's continued, after an excellent bowling and fielding display. Calners 3-60 big in swing. Warren Lee 2-22 wonderkid! Deano 42 ought to go on holiday more often. Bambi 27 no more than you'd expect from an international.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Whitstable at home by 6 wickets [Kent League]. Whitstable 138 all out, Blackheath 139-4. Arguably the best all round performance of the season, and even better, slaying the myth that The Club can't chase a target down. Pacemen Watts and Chucker 3-40 bowled straight. Woodsie 14.4-6-21-4 and 24* likely suspect for MOM. Dependable Dave Wilson 20. Stradders 49 a serious knock. Mortgage 16* kept the account in credit.

Blackheath 3rd XI lost to Tunbridge Wells away by 2 wickets [South Thames Lge]. Blackheath 163-9 in 48 overs, Tunbridge Wells 167-8. One or two suspect umpiring decisions saw this match go right down to the final ball. Jason Windsor 23. Luffy great caught and bowled… always catch em off your own bowling. This loss should focus the boys for the big game next week.

Blackheath 4th XI lost to Hayes at home by 5 wickets [South Thames League]. Blackheath 100 all out, Hayes 101-5. J.T. 29 oozing class? (errmmm - ed) Abed 21. Johh Dodson 4-24 bowled well. The general feeling is that the 4's need to improve on their recent performances.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Tunbridge Wells at home by 74 runs [Friendly]. Tunbridge Wells 209-8 in 40 overs, Blackheath 135 all out. Paul Valentine 35, Joe Cannon 27 firing with both barrels. Omar waived through a catch at mid off that nearly hit him square between the eyes! Despite the poor results at the weekend, it didn't stop the usual suspects from hitting the village. Many flies were cast, and one or two landed trout. Don't forget to throw them back in fellas, when you're finished, to ensure the stock levels are maintained.

A short report this week, due to only 2 League XI's in action. There was a gap in the fixtures for the 2nd XI and the 3's were called off, due to the rising water table at the Wanderers. If it gets any higher, we're gonna need a box to stand on to see over it!

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI beat Broadstairs at home by 3 wickets [Kent League]. Broadstairs 157 all out, Blackheath 159-7. Perfectly paced win, with only 5 balls to spare, from being 19-4 at one stage. Calners 3-36 penetrated their rear end. Riaan VDM bowled tidily. Swaddy 3-42 unplayable full bungers, and chipped in witb 35 much needed runs. The stand in skipper Jerms 31. Silky 31* just when we needed it most. Weazel 13* got the boys home.

Blackheath 4th XI drew with Old Wilsonians at home [South Thames League]. Old Wilsonians 232-2 in 48 overs, Blackheath 138-7 in 48 overs. Very few highlights to this match, with the oppo's opener being dropped three times. It took Captain Courageous McQueen to get finally get rid of him, with a flukey catch. Not much else to say….

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Canterbury away by 9 wickets [Kent League]. Blackheath 179 all out, Canterbury 183-1. Firey 30. Deano 33. Mark Silk 31 smooth as. Swaddy 31. Warren Lee stunning, over the shoulder, running catch.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Canterbury at home by 45 runs [Kent League]. Canterbury 196-4 in 50 overs, Blackheath 151 all out. Our boys played with only 10 men. Woodsy 56 the only highlight of the day!

Blackheath 3rd XI beat RACS at home by 161 runs [South Thames League]. Blackheath 259-3 in 48 overs, RACS 98 all out. Mortgage 81 batting with interest. John Olufawo 71 wot… more runs. Barry Lee 25* smashed it. Kam Raja 3-21. Adrian Jamwal 3 wickets. Junaid mopped up the tail, and held a good catch at second slip, to win the match. At the halfway stage of the campaign, the 3's are top with 153 points. Impressive!

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Hertford away by 4 wickets [Friendly]. Blackheath 171 all out, Hertford 172-6. In a contrived finish, young captain, Calners got stitched up like the preverbal kipper, loosing in the last over. Here in the office, we don't like to point the finger, but our Chairman J.T. should have a good long hard look at himself (very attractive - ed) & besides The penultimate over going for 24. (have a look at Hoggards figures - ed) See you at nets, my son! (not this year - ed) Bambi 78 batting beautifully. Gazza Honor 33 looking a little short of breath! Riaan lagered up after watching the World Cup Final, couldn't see the ball when he batted at 4. But later returned figures of 3-18 a sobering thought. A little bit of gossip for all the fellas. A member of the 3rd XI overdid all the winning celebrations. He left O'Neils in the village around midnight, with a female OAP and friend, obviously intending to talk them through the days' events, or was he just after getting his hands on the old girl's pension. Lets all hope, he put a fresh grip on his handle! Don't forget. It's Watty's 40th Birthday Extravaganza this Saturday. 7pm onwards, all paid members invited along with friends and partners etc. A spot of nosebag and a DJ, plus a late bar is all on offer. Let's give the old sod a good send into his mid life crisis.

UP THE CLUB! C U @ the knees up! GAF. .

26th June

All of our XI's enjoyed positive results over the weekend, although the only side to win were the 1's, the rest gained valuable winning draws. In fact the 1's made it a double, by winning the friendly encounter on Sunday as well, I'm gonna treat myself to some clean underwear to celebrate.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI beat Ashford away by 47 runs [Kent League] Blackheath 205 all out, Ashford 158 all out. Deano 32 looked fantastic. Graham (Starsky &) Hutchins 48 very accomplished debut. Another classy left hander in the team (4 (?-i can name 3 - ed )in all now!). Omar 3-44. Swaddy 6-34 conducted the orchestra, spun the ball and mopped up the tail.

Blackheath 2nd XI drew with Ashford at home [Kent League] Blackheath 216-6 dec, Ashford 185-6 in 52 overs. Disappointing in some ways, as Ashford only had 9 men. After winning the toss and much deliberation, the team persuaded Watty to bat, on a dead wicket. Dave Wilson 84* effective as ever. Gareth Honor 40 solid. Woodsy 34 quick time. Dusty 4-48 picking up more wickets. Whilst the pace attack (?) of Watts & Chucker bowled miserly. Even golden arm Straders couldn't finish em orf.

Blackheath 3rd XI drew with Ex Blues away [South Thames League] Blackheath 264-6 in 48 overs, Ex Blues 117-8 in 48 overs. Symon Dawson 44 Mr Consistent, Hami Purdey 66 giving the selectors another nudge, Paul Gilliam 67* whacked the pooh. Our resident OAP Alan Luff got more wickets 4-21, and a catch in the gully. The 3's extended their lead at the top of the Division, clear, now by some 30 odd points.

Blackheath 4th XI drew with Hartley at home [South Thames League] Blackheath 250-3 in 48 overs, Hartley 151-3 in 48 overs. Jon Olufawo 116 scored a s**t load this season. Dave Farnell 69, Paul Valentine 33* I always give the keepers union members, a mention. Adrian Jamwal picked up 2 wickets.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI beat Holmesdale away by 4 wickets [Friendly] Holmesdale 175-5 in 40 overs, Blackheath 176-6. A good Sunday social fixture played at a decent ground, with the game being won with 2 balls to spare. And the sun shone all day long! Gareth Honor 3-23 are you Swaddy in disguise, Riaan van der Mescht 8-2-17-1 bowled as tight as a nun's ch*ff. Calners 54 back in form, Mike Curry 38 hotter than a vindaloo.

To conclude this weeks bulletin a couple of important announcements. Firstly, Shaun Newing is departing shortly, to travel around the globe. I'm sure all at The Club, would like to wish him well and hope he visits us again soon. It's not often you meet a pleasant Aussie, and the useful runs that "The Chicken" scored will be surely missed. A big evening at The Club next Saturday 6th July, as this is Andy Watts 40th Birthday Bash. All paid up members and friends/wives/girlfriends/boyfriends are invited. Plenty of refreshment available as well as a disco and a spot of grub. 7pm onwards, so make a note.

UP THE CLUB! C U @ the bar… GAF.

19th June

Good wins for our League 2's, 3's and 4's at the weekend, but it would seem that the 1st XI need to return to the drawing board after loosing on Saturday and being knocked out of the Evening Standard on Sunday.

SCOREBOARD

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Sevenoaks Vine at home by 14 runs [Kent League] Blackheath 184-7 in 50 overs, Sevenoaks Vine 170 all out. Mortgage Mahoney 24*. Dusty Gleeson 4-42 spinning his way back into the 1's.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat HSBC at home by 95 runs [South Thames League] Blackheath 150-8 in 48 overs, HSBC 55 all out. Top of the table clash on a slow pudding of a wicket. The win puts our boys clear at the top, with breathing space. Ozzie Newing 33 in good nick. Wilco 28. Barry Lee 21 quick runs. Tommy Gaydon 6-31 seamed em out one after the other. Old Un Luff leaping catch in the gully. Wilco a run out from the boundary.

Blackheath 4th XI beat HSBC away by 142 runs [South Thames League] Blackheath 251-5 dec, HSBC 109 all out. A run feast for the 4's, and a convincing win. Hami the hamster Purdey 76. Redders 33*. John Olufawo 76, and 4-21 champagne please, for the MOM. Kam Raja 3-33. Sunday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Dorking away by 12 runs [Evening Standard K/O 2nd Rnd] Dorking 204-9 in 50 overs, Blackheath 192-9 in 50 overs. Calners 5-42 a precious commodity. Raggers 73 bang in form. Omar 30 couldn't quite steer the boys home.

Almost a full house of wins for our boys, this weekend. The 1's gaining a creditable winning draw, whilst all the other XI's returned to the Rectum with big cheesy grins on their faces, or had they spotted the appearance of Omar on page 71 of the Kent League handbook. Not to be shown to young children, or those with a nervous disposition…. Naturally.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI drew with Bickley Park at home [Kent League] Blackheath 164 all out, Bickley Park 137-9 in 50 overs. Omar 26, Richard Jerman 29, and 6-48, 21 overs. All this cricket for only £9! Riaan van der Mescht 2-48, 15 overs. The spin twins applying the early breaks.

Blackheath 2nd XI bt Bromley Common away by 2 wickets [Kent League] Bromley Common 136-8 in 50 overs, Blackheath 137-8. Chucker Jones 3-17 keep slingin em down. Rupert Hill The Sultan of Swing 2-13, 10 overs. Sedgers 40* steered the herd home.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Bickley Park 4th XI away by 169 runs [South Thames Lge] Blackheath 226-4 dec, Bickley Park 57 all out. The Heath silenced the noisy home support, with a quality performance in all departments. Shaun Newing 69, Mortgage Mahony 46, Old Man Luff 37, and also managed to take out Steve Wilcox ret hurt, smearing a tracer bullet into his elbow, then looking disgusted as he had cost him a boundary! Tommy Gaydon 4-19, Luffy 5-29. Symon Dawson a run out from the boundary, and you know it's your day when Knighty pouches one at second slip. (ed-see full version at clubhouse)

Blackheath 4th XI beat Old Wilsonians at home [South Thames League] Old Wilsonians 109 all out, Blackheath 110.

Mark Silk 3 wickets, and 54*. Hamish Purdey 36. Finishing the job in just 23 overs.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI Vs Bickley Park 1st XI at home [Readers League] Bickley Park unable to field a team, Blackheath awarded a walk over.

5th June

Due to the Queens' Jubilee celebrations over the past weekend, not too much to report apart from the League action on Saturday. Indeed some of our skippers have, as yet, not sent me a report. I suppose this weekend, they can be excused, but if you want to promote some of your team mates performances, then you must send me a report, to the e mail address above, asap after your match. The ball is in your court!

For those of you wondering about Swaddy's appearance on Saturday, here is the account of proceedings. Whilst staying overnight at Folkestone in midweek for the Kent Board match, "The King" incurred a touch of the Aztec two step. Feeling really unwell in the morning, he visited the big white telephone, asking to speak to Hughey, and God. Neither replied, so he offered a token in order to gain a response, and promptly spewed his front teeth down the khazi. By this time, he wasn't sure quite where he was, and without thinking, pulled the chain! So if you are, per chance, by the Kent coast, with your cockling bucket, then keep an eye out for Swaddy's gnashers!

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI drew with Harvel at home [Kent League] Blackheath 147-9 in 50 overs, Harvel 129-9 in 50 overs. Richard Jerman 26, The King 4-41, really got his teeth into their batting line up, Omar 4-35.

Blackheath 2nd XI drew with Folkestone away [Kent League] Folkestone 211-6 in 50 overs, Blackheath 176-9 in 50 overs. Watty 4-64, always gets a mention, Graham Hutchings 36, Woodsie 35. (Hello to Mum and Dad Woods - hope you enjoyed your week in Kent - ed)

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Tunbridge Wells at home [South Thames League] Blackheath 4th XI lost to Hayes away by 4 wickets [South Thames League]

29th May

All four league XI's in action on Saturday, with 3 (acutally 2 - ed) of them praying for rain. Typically it only rains when we need it least, however the Third team flew the flag, as ever, to record another fine victory.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Sibton Park away by 9 wickets [Kent League] Blackheath 117 all out, Sibton Park 118-1.

Richard Jerman 27 caught at deep third man…. just about sums the day up! Warren Lee 29 marshalled the tail as it wagged. Fantastic prospect, only 14 years old. Riaan van der Mescht 25 chipped in much needed runs. Even debutant Ruba Thananayagam's unorthodox leg spin, couldn't break through, despite being almost unplayable on the 4th bounce. Could've had a wicket if mid off wasn't having a nap…. not mentioning any names.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Folkestone at home by 8 wickets [Kent League] Blackheath 198-8 in 50 overs, Folkestone 199-2.

Dangerous Dave Wilson 40, Stradders 90 something for the selectors to chew over. Deano 32. The middle and late order collapsed, when really 220-230 should've (see conduct - ed) been posted.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Old Colfeians at home [South Thames League] No report. The wheels of communications have fallen off!

Blackheath 4th XI lost to Old Dunstonians & Cuaco away [South Thames League] Blackheath 103 all out, Old Dunstonians & Cuaco 104 with 1 ball remaining. Ian Cooper 2 wickets, batsman John Olufawo 4 wickets, impressed…. what do you reckon Knighty?

Sunday Matches rained off.

A little bit of fame for our boys to report this week. A couple of seasoned pros made the latest edition of Wisden. Chris Swadkin has been appointed Chairmen of the Kent Board XI, another accolade for "The King", and previously reported on these pages Lyndon Williams who hit 8 sixes in 9 balls. Looks like the Weazel of old has returned to the Rectum. Well done fellas, lets hope we get a few more mentions in the oracle, before the end of the season.

22nd May

A mixed bag of results this weekend, but at least the sun shone, making for pleasant cricketing conditions. All we need now is hard wickets. I've been playing here for 11 years and I'm still waiting for one at The Rectum!

SCOREBOARD

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI lost to Sandwich away by 41 runs [Kent League] Sandwich 213-7 in 50 overs,

Blackheath 172 all out. Omar bowled accurately 1-55 in 20 overs, Swaddy 3-36, little teaser isn't he? Richard Jerman 73, smashed the opener out of the attack.

Blackheath 2nd XI drew with Bromley Common at home [Kent League] Blackheath 216-7 dec in 48 overs,Bromley Common 179-8

Dangerous Dave Wilson 53, in form Weazel 53, and Deano 46 back from a ban, gave Watty the rare privilege of declaring. He then bowled economically 3-42 in 19 overs. Woodsy 3-31. Couldn't get the last wicket, despite having 7 overs at them, and Bromley Common with only 10 men.

Blackheath 3rd XI drew with Sidcup away [South Thames League] Blackheath 232-6 dec, Sidcup 206-6 in 50 overs.

Knighty 81, Alan Luff 53, nearly as many runs as grey hairs. Peter Dean tasty catch. The 3's still top of the League though.

Sunday Blackheath 1st XI beat Gravesend away by 10 wickets [ Readers League] Gravesend 154-7 in 40 overs, Blackheath 155-0.

Dusty Gleeson skippered well, for his first attempt, and marshalled the troops effectively. Debutant left hander Graham Hutchins 88* controlled and competent innings, with good support and quick running from Sedgers 54*. A 10 wicket win the ultimate feat when chasing a fair total. Well done the boys!

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Belvedere 1st XI at home by 72 runs [Friendly] Belvedere 246-8 in 40 overs, Blackheath 174-8 in 40 overs.

Ed Mann 3-33, brought it down from a great height. Yours truly 58*, and John Dodson 39* helped themselves to the generous buffet, as the game was opened up after being in major trouble. Surely the best moment of the weekend was the presence of Charlie Mumbles fielding for the Sunday 2's at the Rectum, due to the lack of players. Twice inside the same over, he chased a ball at deep extra cover, only to loose his footing, and turn turtle. Had the infamous sniper returned to The Rectum? Then an over or two later he set off the wrong way, fielding a ball at third man. He was spotted soon after tea, nursing a grazed knee and a pint of lager. Quality, worth the £9 subs money alone!

Good results for all our League teams this weekend, despite playing on damp wickets. Maybe we've become a club full of spinners. Now all we need is for the sun to start shining and it will really feel like the cricket season is up and running. I haven't had much input from our members out there, so I'm having to prattle about off of the top of my head. Not easy when you're thick like me. So please let me know if there is anything you need to communicate to the rest of the club, and I can put your name in lights. There was no 3rd team report in the last bulletin (cheers Knighty!) but Paul Gilliam has repeatedly brought to my attention, his match winning innings of 70 odd against Bromley Common. So Pauly, here it is…. can I have my ears back now. On a slightly more serious note. It is vital that all players regularly view our web site www.blackheathcc.com. The officers are/will be using this medium as our primary means of contact and notification, with all the teams and important events posted up on the site. This is really the whole point of having our web site, plus you get the chance to see this bulletin again. Fantastic!

Saturday Blackheath 1st XI beat Ashford at home by 3 wickets [Kent League] Ashford 181 all out,

Another important landmark for Blackheath CC this weekend, was achieved when our 4th XI took the field to play the first League match. It was only four seasons ago when the club was struggling to put out two Saturday XI's and now we have 4 strong ones, with the possibility of a 5th. Quite a feat, and shows that The Heath our making great progress. It was also good to see the Clubhouse packed with many smiling faces, particularly from the 3's and 4's as they tasted success, whilst the 1's and 2's will have to do better next week. The victorious 3rd XI from last season Championship winning side were presented with their medals, lets hope Blackheath CC gain more silverware this year.

I haven't received all the Captains reports for this past weekend, so I apologise if you don't get a mention, and you think you deserve one. Being a journalist perhaps he's still pissed from the weekend, and can't find his PC!

Hallo playmates, it's that time of year again. Time to get your kit out of the loft, and oil the bat, the season has arrived. Most of you will have seen these bulletins before, but if you are a new member, then let me introduce myself. My name is Paul Gafa' and I am your Communications Officer, responsible for promoting better lines of communications, and hopefully uniting our Club. I can normally be found ranting and raving (and farting!) behind a set of stumps. So come up and say hallo.

Pre season warm up matches took place in Cambridge on Saturday (20th) + Sunday (21st April), The weekend away proved a great success, with approximately 30 players getting a game. So congratulations and thanks should be extended to Torban Williams for organising the event.

Due to increasing work loads and the introduction of our web site, www.blackheathcc.com I plan to introduce a scoreboard (with a twist), to communicate the performances of our various XI's, including Sunday fixtures. So without further ado, here we go.
