Communications Bulletin No.3/20 10th September

Well this is it, the final bulletin of the season. Winter is well and truly on it's way. Time to put your whites away in the back of the drawer, and dream about the runs and wickets you're gonna get next season. Just a few matches played over the weekend, and the 3's finished their first season in the top flight of the South Thames League in a very creditable third place, so here is the short summary.

SCOREBOARD

Saturday
Blackheath 3rd XI drew with Bromley away [League].
Blackheath 203-9 in 48 overs, Bromley 192-9 in 48 overs.
Peter Dean 77 and 3-27 wot…an all rounder? Junaid 36 nudging the selectors one last time, Jason Windsor 4-66 Lording it!

Sunday
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Gold Leaf away by 90 odd runs [Friendly].
Gold Leaf 230, Blackheath 140 odd all out.
The Turtle 4-30 odd had em flapping, Crispy 4-30 odd sizzling, Rhubarb great catch at first slip, Wrighty 75 great effort, with nerves in tact, after nearly being killed by Ruba's driving en route to the game.
The Spanner Award went to Justin Jamwal for trapping himself plumb lbw, trying to play a reverse sweep.

With a tear in my eye, I'll close the final chapter on this seasons' play. Whether I'll be able to write this bulletin next season, rests with my managers' decision to send me out on the road or not. We'll have to wait and see. So all I can say is that if you've enjoyed reading these pages half as much as I've enjoyed writing them, then I've enjoyed it twice as much as you have! Me and Little Norman shall spend the winter having a well earned break and watching the boys in red down the Valley. Don't forget the End Of Season Dinner at The Club on the 17th October…. Player of the year, it could be you. In case you haven't voted yet, and in case you haven't heard, I scored probably the best ton ever seen at The Rectum, in mid season, but I don't like to keep harping on about it, although I could talk you through it at the bar on the 17th!

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip until next season,

GAF 100 not out, A ton, The Centurion!

Communications Bulletin No.3/19 3rd September

Wow, what a weekend. The Club was in full celebration as the champagne flowed for the 2's after their final match, toasting the First Division Championship, whilst the 4th XI staged a dramatic last match of the season victory, to seal promotion from the South Thames League Division Three. Virtually the whole Club was on the town, necking all sorts of alcoholic beverages…… long may it continue.

Not much more to say as I've still got a hang over, but it's been quite a season. Congratulations to the 2nd and 4th Teams, more silverware coming to the Rectum. Our 1st XI finished a creditable fourth, whilst the 3's still have one match left and could finish as runners up, but are guaranteed third place. And lets not forget the 5's and all the Sunday players who have all performed admirably, making this Club bigger and better than it's ever been. So, there will be a very brief bulletin next week, to tie up all the loose ends, until then, I'm off to bed with an aspirin and my boxing glove on.

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip… GAF.

Communications Bulletin No.3/18 27th August

Kent League honours at last, return to The Rectum as our 2nd XI won the First Division Championship on Saturday and consequently, are promoted to the Premier Division next season… well done the scoobie doos. But defeat for the 1's, means another season in the same division, next year. Our 3rd XI can still claim a very respectful runners spot, with good results from our remaining two matches, whilst the 4's play a third against second place decider to see who goes up, with a winner takes all, at stake, wow what a match.

After the breaking (wind…pardon me) news of Omar's new arrival, last week, Andy Watts has muscled in on the party, by having a little girl, Ella, last Wednesday, so congratulations to both sets of proud parents. It just goes to prove I'm not the only one whose capable of dropping em! Indeed, it should be a double celebration for Watty, as this weekend the 2's will be celebrating the winning of the Division One Championship as well. It could get quite messy at the Rectum, with hopefully a few stories to tell here, next week.

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip… (to Div 1). GAF.

Communications Bulletin No.3/13 23rd July

Ompah, ompah, ompah, ompah, ompah. I'm getting sore lips blowing this thing! And now the weekly bulletin.
Not only did our League XI's have to beat their opponents but also the weather, on Saturday, as a thunder storm broke late in the evening. Our victorious First and Fourth Teams overcame both, but the 2's and 3's were robbed of possible victories, and had to be content with bonus points, from incomplete games.

The Spanner Award was shared by Sam Hart for colliding whilst his team mate was making a catch, and Rhubarb for throwing the ball around the field randomly.

It seems that the evening rain must have dampened the spirits of adventure, with very few venturing into The Village, and the majority of the players remaining at The Club, boasting of their achievements. So not much to report of the gossip front. That just leaves me to return to few tunes on my trumpet. I've spent the whole of last week, basking in my personnel glory, and I'm hoping to graduate from a single instrument to a full brass band. Hear me now!

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip… GAF ( The Centurion )

What a wonderful weekend for making runs, taking wickets, catches and run outs, and even if you made none of the above, I'm sure you're all sporting a suntan after two days of solid fierce sunshine.

Finally, make a note of my new mobile phone number, and feel free to ring and quiz me on any batting tips you may need. Unlike lesser batsmen you won't hear me crowing about my ton on Sunday, oh no, nor will I be blowing my own trumpet……… Ompah, ompah, ompah, ompah, ompah!!!!!

PS. Did I mention my ton?

The closest we've come yet to a full house of victories, with just the 3's missing out, although even then a winning draw is not a bad result. So no surprise to see the bar full on Saturday evening with all the fellas with big cheesy grins on their faces.

The dance floor was full, and the beer glasses were empty. It was good to see a few of our boys demonstrating some groovy choreography. Surely, you didn't dance like that when you were at school? Or is it a bad habit you've picked up recently? Anyway, I'm looking forward to our Social Secretary's next event…. Well done Hutch.

Phew wot a scorcher, the best weather yet this season to add some points to your Fantasy League totals. Good performances from our 2's, 3's 4's and 5's, whilst our First Team are still struggling to find their early season form. But it's just a dip in fortunes, and there is plenty of time to turn the season around as we are only in June.

Beware, the Rectum is turning into a dangerous place. As you have read above I went straight into the scoreboard, and earlier in the week, Torban departed company from his scooter on the way home after a (netting???) session. Whilst Brassy thought he'd have a dig at the sight screen, and came off second best on Sunday. So lets be careful out there, as we don't have a qualified physio, who can attend to our lumps…. this club already has enough big lumps!

UP THE CLUB! Toodle Pip….. GAF.

Communications Bulletin No.3/6 4th June

No one can accuse Blackheath's cricketers of being fair weather players. It seems as soon as the climate improves, our performances generally decline. The 1's early season form has deserted them, and the 4's are beginning to find it a bit tougher, although our Third team are now showing some decent form, recording a winning draw after last weeks win. Our newly formed 5's, under JT's wing, march on regardless, and hopefully League cricket won't be too far away. As for the Second XI, they spent the weekend DIY and sunbathing as there was no Kent League fixture.

Blackheath XI lost to Upchurch

We got smashed. they made about 240. Rhubarb took 2 wickets for 30 odd which was great. Dave Marston also took 2 for. Pygmy bowled and took a wicket too. Ben Laverton took a great catch low in the covers. We ended up making 6/184 or thereabouts. I made 34, and Dave Marston 66no, Jamie Yorke 49no. And that's about all there was to it. Yorke and Marston putting on 120 runs was excellent. Man of the match has to be Dave 'The Destroyer' Marston.

Perhaps the poor results affected the partying, as Saturday night seemed a little quieter then usual.
So no gossip to report, unless you know otherwise??? Although, Bickley Park seemed a little bit louder after their victory against our 4's, check out their website (www.bickleypark.) . It seems that you can now make up your own rules on cricket, especially if it's a League match, and you don't need any equipment, as the opposition are required to supply it all. Perhaps we should confirm this with our South Thames League Rep…. Hamish what do you reckon? In any case, to smooth over relations between the two clubs, if any Bickley Park players forget their underpants in the rematch, I do have a spare pair in my wash basket.
Don't forget that your annual subscriptions are due now, and should be paid to your Captain. Also, the School Disco will soon be upon us. Tickets available from behind the bar, or see Hutch. £3 is the asking price. So don't waste your pocket money on sweeties, save it up and buy a ticket, or two.

A change in fortunes this weekend with the South Thames League XI's doing rather better than the Kent League boys. The 4's won handsomely, and were changed, showered and back in the Clubhouse by 7pm, whilst the 3rd Team, as predicted on these pages previously, did the business in Greenwich Park….. lovely jubbly.

Short and sweet this week, as there has not been too much gossip, and times scales have been a bit tight, due to the Bank Holiday. Lets hope that this weekend, we all play well, and arguably, there is more scandal and skulduggery going on, so I can fill these pages.

Wet and windy, like my underpants, is the best way to sum up the weekend. Rain was the main victor, although a bit of cricket was played, but if the matches were completed, the results weren't as favourable as other weekends. The First, Second and Fourth XI remain undefeated in their respective Leagues, whilst it won't be too before the 3's give someone a good hiding. Unfortunately our cup runs are over for another season, as we bowed out of the Evening Standard on Sunday. So, as they say on TV, we can concentrate, fully, on getting promoted.

The Club goes from strength to strength, as this weekend we managed to put out a total of seven sides. Five on Saturday and two on Sunday. A remarkable achievement, when as little as five years ago we barely fielded two XI's for League matches. Saturday was a much better day for the Club, with most of our teams doing well, whilst the rain descended on Sunday afternoon to spoil the games, although the spectacle of a bowl out, for the 1st XI, brightened things up for a while, that was, until the stumps were erected and then….ooh noo!

Blackheath 2nd XI vs Wickham Park away, abandoned, rain [Friendly].
Ours was the moral victory on sunday - it was a team with an old codger batting first & Matt Shepherd accepted the offer of a timed game...so the opposition won the toss and put us in the field. Blackheath were doing well, with them not scoring at all, until one guy comes in and smashes 100. Even with 'stinger' Muzzy and 'the smiling assassin' Jones, this guy with a woman's arse managed to clout it - dont ask Redders what his bowling analysis was! Me (Simon Wright) and Redders opened the batting and were smacking it around well, but it only lasted 10 overs when we came off for the rain. If it was a duckworth lewis method we would have killed em! The highlight was the kid who hit 100 standing in the field picking his nose and eating it - oh, and also captain birds eye fish fingers who batted for them at number 3 "pieces of eight!". Not sure on the exact scores, as we had no score book and their scorer locked the scoring shed and wouldnt open it up - wierdo. (Full match report as written by Simon Wright - ed)

As the Club expands, so does the socialising. Great to see a lot of the new boys (and old timers) all out on the pull and the piss. It could be a great season at the wicket and in the village. A few shots were played, in vain, but it seems the only pair to get a result were Omar and Redders who left the Cactus Pit arm in arm, with the intention of sharing a double bed. Videos, wrapped in brown paper and reasonably priced, are available behind the bar….. ask discreetly.

A pretty good start by all our League XI's this weekend with all but the 3's recording a win. Probably the first time in two years that the Third XI have failed to fly the flag for the Club, so they can be excused this slip up, in their first match in the top division of the South Thames League. So I hope most of you managed to get a game in the early season sunshine, and more importantly got some points on the board in the Fantasy League.

Communications Bulletin No.3.1 30th April

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER: PAUL GAFA' : E-Mail: paul.gafa@bt.com : Mobile: 07752 872024

Here we go again. I hope you've all wintered well, and are chomping at the bit to get out in the middle. It's good to see a lot of new faces, which should make theClub even stronger, and I wish you all the best for the new season. To introduce myself, my duties include keeping the troops amused whilst in the trenches and writing all this old dribble on a weekly basis, and can usually be found squatting (and farting!) behind a set of stumps. So come up and say hallo, or better still, buy me a beer at the bar….. yes come to think of it, the latter is best.
I had the good fortune to get a game in at the weekend, and although it didn't go exactly as planned, it was still good to blow away the old cobwebs, I even found some fluff in my belly button. To keep you all up to date with how the various XIs got on, here is the scoreboard.

4th Team Review of the Season

Promotion has been achieved and here are some of the key performances that got us there.

Batting

Dave Farnell - 495 runs @ 33.00, 4x50, HS 78 Vs OD Cuaco
495 runs illustrates the value of playing every week. The skipper overcame the burdens of captaincy which have drained the runs from other Sheffielders to return a decent contribution. Dave's greatest achievement was securing a whole number average despite being dismissed 9 times more than any other 4th team player.

Paul Farnell - 361 runs @ 90.25, 4x50, HS 98* Vs Old Colfes
Paul's allergy to playing in the big games kept the average up and the cries of nepotism down. Despite all of the runs Paul will be remembered for leaving the team in huge trouble at 0-2 off 2 balls at Bickley Park.

Vince German, Vince German.. - 275 runs @ 91.67, 3x50, HS 77 Vs HSBC
Vince is so good they named him twice. The Kent League journeyman was lured to Blackheath in the hope of a 1st XI spot but developed such loyalty to the 4th team that he refused to score a single run in any other side. We will have to see which club is lucky enough to win the spin of Vince German's Kent League Wheel of Fortune for season 2004.

Graham Bridle 266 runs @44.33, 1x100, HS 129* Vs Bexley
A marvellous effort from the talkative Australian. The volume of Graham's runs nearly met the volume of his sledging. His hundred against Bexley was the highest score of the season but was swiftly followed by the most expensive drop of the season, an honour miraculously not taken by the skipper.

Peter Dean 221 runs @ 110.5, 1x100 1x50, HS 102* Vs OD Cuaco
Peter scored a very important 92 against Division 3 whipping boys Catford which was far more valuable than his flawless ton. The only surprise was that the Brisbane Blade failed to add a zero to his score against the hapless HSBC.

Matt Shepard 123 runs @ 41.00, 1x50, HS 60* Vs Bickley Park
Matt's wicket keeping skills meant that he floated throughout the Saturday teams this year. In the 4th team he was allowed the luxury of a bat and rewarded us with a fine half century against Bickley having come to the wicket on a hat-trick.

Dee Bhadri - 112 runs @ 112, 1x50, HS 97* Vs Catford
Having started the season as Matt Bonnetti's mate who turned up to field in our first game, Dee eventually played one of our most important innings against Division 3 whipping boys Catford. His score of 97* shows us all just how much of a b*stard JT can be at times.

All Rounders

Junaid Ahmed - 160 runs @ 80.00, 2x50, HS 57* Vs HSBC
- 8 wkts @ 11.63, BB 4-24 Vs Bexley
Junaid may have finished at the top of batting and bowling charts if he'd been available all season. A match winning spell against Bexley on his sixth consecutive game of the week at Chislehurst & Sidcup school, following an impressive knock was probably the highlight.

Abid Ahmed - 117 runs @ 117.00, 1x100, HS 115* Vs Orpington
- 7 wkts @ 7.71, BB 3-8 Vs HSBC
The playboy certainly doesn't mess about. A wicket every 14 balls and a match winning hundred off 80 odd balls provide evidence of that. Abid's innings against Orpington showed the maturity of someone twice his age - a magnificent display of clean hitting on a day when the next highest score was 21.

Clive Ogbimi - 103 runs @ 103.00, 1x100, HS 103* Vs Hartley
- 23 wkts @ 8.35, 2x5, BB 6-48 Vs Bickley Park
The Lagos express was our most explosive bowler in 2003. Before even bowling a ball he managed to smash a ton off 20 overs. With the ball Clive never took less than 4 wickets in an innings. I can't think of many clubs whose 4th team could be disrupted by international calls.

Bowling

Kam Raja - 24 wkts @ 17.29, BB 4-22 Vs Orpington
With 24 wickets, it's not only the clay pigeons who were running scared this year. The team benefited from Kam's retirement from 3rd team cricket and subsequent regular availability. A selfless campaigner, Kam would have taken many more wickets had he changed ends and taken advantage of the crater he always left on middle stump in his follow through.

Mark Reading 13 wkts @ 10.23, BB 4-34 Vs Gravesend
Scandalously removed from the all rounder bracket due to a lack of opportunities. Having been unable to get out for the 4s in 2002, Redders was unable to get in during 2003. His bowling was as reliable as ever. The four wicket haul against Gravesend could have been five had the club secretary found that extra yard of pace to knock the bail off when hitting off stump. Overall a top effort from one so hungover.

Terry Hall 11 wkts @ 12.73, 1x5, BB 5-33 Vs HSBC
A good return from the chirpy paceman. Took most of his wickets with sharp in-swinging deliveries. However the highlight would have to be Terry being warned for bowling the worst bouncer of the season - a justified although perhaps misguided bit of umpiring.

Chris Stevens 11 wkts @ 15.82, BB 4-65 Vs Orpington
A good return from the reliable opener in his first season with the club. A superb spell of 3-2 against Old Colfes, who ran for cover when it rained, was the highlight.

John Dodson 11 wkts @ 18.18, BB 4-25 Vs Orpington
Another consistent season for John with the ball. The most notable performance may have been with the bat, his 35 against Hartley set up an unlikely win and made a huge difference.

Other Top Performances

Matt Bonnetti 47* Vs Hartley
This innings saved the team from losing to one of the weaker teams in the league. Matt and John Dodson put on 70 for the last wicket to give us something to bowl at. We ended up winning the game by 1 run - Matt taking a further 4 catches. He could have had a further mention but did not dominate the gloves in 2003 - one of 8 (eight) keepers used.

Jon Taylor 65* Vs Catford
JT spent most of the season trying to establish the 5th team. With glory beckoning, JT made himself available to the 4th team. This excellent innings at Catford was rewarded with a did not bat role the following week. The glory boy was next seen hitting the promotion clinching runs against Gravesend.

Where are they now?

Andy Tong went on to score three consecutive tons in the 3rd team and represent all 4 league teams. Sadly the former Rotherham Phoenix hardnut was unable to score these runs for us - steward's enquiry. Chris Brassington enjoyed the privilege of a bat for the 4th team on his way back from injury. What better than an innings of 70 against Division 3 whipping boys Catford to overcome a nasty collision with a sightscreen. Brasso emulated Tongy in playing for all 4 teams.

Big Mention

Graeme McQueen was a massive help to the team this year. Despite being disgracefully underbowled, Graeme's efforts in organising and captaining in my absence were much appreciated.

A mention for our other juniors, Justin Jamwal and Shakeeb Ahmed who continued their development this year, recording useful runs and wickets to the side.

COLTS - JUNIOR REVEIW 2003

Here's the review:
Crispy Duck's Review of The Year 2003

Hello everybody, 2003 was a great year for colts cricket at our club which led to many youngsters playing for the adult teams, the future is looking bright at the Rectory Field!

We start off with the Under 11's who played their first league games in the North Kent Junior League Division 1. They finished in a respectable 5th position.
They started their season with a 9 wicket victory over Bexley with Terry Stark (25*) and Sonny Mahon (3-14) the stars for Heath. Bexley 80 - 6 Heath 82 - 1
They were then unfortunately beaten by 26 runs by Sevenoaks Vine. Sevenoaks Vine 106 - 4 Heath 77 - 7
It was then followed by two cancelled matches against Hartley and Hayes because of bad weather. Their last match of the season was at the Rectory Field against Old Colfeians in a thrilling encounter which eventually ended with Colfe's the victor by 12 runs. The star of the show for Heath was Adam Senn who scored a whopping 28 runs. Old Colfeians 113 - 5 Heath 101
Player Of The Year: Adam Senn - For his excellent 28 against Old Colfeians.

The Under 13's had an excellent season in the NKJL North - West Division 2 and were well led by captain Anwar Khan. They finished 2nd in their division and won their 3rd place play-off against 2nd place in the South - East division, an excellent achievement. Heath started their season with a comprehensive 8 wicket victory over HSBC. Luke Dobson (23*) and (4-7) was the star for Heath. HSBC 69 - 8 Heath 70 - 2
That was followed by a abandoned match against Bromley.
They were then beaten by Old Dunstonians by 6 wickets despite 23 runs from Luke Dobson. Heath 90 - 5 OD/Cuaco 92 - 4
The Granby away match was another success for the Heath as they bowled them out for 28 with Luke Dobson the star again with 5 wickets for 2 runs in 4 overs. Heath 82 - 9 Granby 28
They followed that up with a 22 run victory over Old Wilsonians with Luke Dobson (26) and Joe Wood (4-28) doing the damage. Heath 111 - 2 Old Wilsonians 89
A week later, they thrashed Chislehurst and West Kent by 10 wickets and once more it was Joe Wood (3-11) and Luke Dobson (21*) stealing the show. Chislehurst 55 Heath 57 - 0
It was then followed by their 2nd defeat of the season against Bromley Town. Omar Iqbal was Heath's star player with
3 - 5. Heath 68 Bromley Town 69 - 3
Heath then beat Old Colfeians by 7 runs with skipper Khan scoring 26 not out and Luke Dobson and Joe Wood taking 3 wickets each. Heath 83 - 6 Old Colfeians 76
Their final league game was against Catford Cyphers in which they hammered them by 98 runs. Captain Khan scored 28* and Omar Iqbal took 3 - 2. Heath 120 - 3 Catford Cyphers 22
That left them with a 3rd place play - off match against 2nd place in the South - East league who turned out to be RACS.
They bowled out RACS for 62 and then Iqbal (29) and Khan (25) led Heath to an 8 - wicket victory.
RACS 62 Heath 63 - 2
Player Of The Year: Luke Dobson - 'Dobby the house - elf' had an unbelievable season with bat and ball and I am
looking forward to seeing his skills tested in the Under - 15 league's next season.

A mix of Under - 13 and 15 players went into the August Under - 14 Cup with high hopes before being knocked out in the 1st round by a talented Orpington team. Orpington 139 - 5 Heath 60

Now we come to the Under - 15's who had their best season yet. Well led by skipper Joe Pearce, they finished in an excellent runner - up position.
The season started poorly with a 34 - run defeat at the Rectory Field against Granby. Granby 130 - 4 Heath 96
They fought back strongly with the defeat of Gravesend at the Bat and Ball ground. Shakeeb 'Akhtar' Ahmed was the man of the match with a superb 70 not out. Gravesend 129 - 6 Heath 133 - 6
They then beat Sevenoaks Vine by 21 runs with 'Titch' Huwa (61*) and Jonny Hepher (3-3) leading the way.
Heath 111 - 6 Sevenoaks Vine 90 - 9
Heath then stunned Sidcup at the Rectory Field with a 116 - run victory after bowling them out for 21. 'Akhtar' (66) and 'Titch' (45) gave Heath a huge total and Geoff 'Bentley' Williams wrapped the Sidcup innings up quickly with 3 - 7.
Heath 137 - 3 Sidcup 21
They then defeated Beckenham because of a no show from them (Whimps!).
An unfortunate defeat by Old Colfeians followed despite a Bentley hat - trick and a superb 38 not out from Pearce.
Old Colfeians 170 - 8 Heath 128 - 5
Another defeat the next week against Catford Wanderers despite a heroic 32 from wickie Charles Dorrance - King.
Catford Wanderers 168 - 4 Heath 78
The final game of the season was a thriller for 2nd place in the division and because of 29 from debutant Omar Iqbal, Heath were the victors by 3 runs. Heath 109 - 8 Chislehurst 106
Player Of The Year: Shakeeb Ahmed - An excellent display with the bat throughout the season, no wonder he plays for the adult teams!

I hope you enjoyed reading this review as much as I enjoyed writing it! It's been a excellent year for junior cricket at our fine club and next year will be even better! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
UP THE CLUB,
Crispy
