Communication Bulletin - 13th September 2004

Blackheath fielding teams in the second weekend in September - Unheard of !
However both assorted sides had decent matches with close finishes, while the matches allowed another weekend for some enjoyable exhibitions of batting and bowling and as Weasel said - "It makes it a shorter break until the next season".

WEEKEND SCORECARD

Blackheath XI beat Southbank by 3 wickets (Saturday Friendly)
Blackheath 192-6, Southbank 191-9
Blackheath won the toss and fielded (after a last minute rush to get all the stumps, bails and score book by yours truly). Shared the bowling and the wickets, but young Elliot Hudd bowled very well and got a 3 for. Old man Luff bowled five straight maidens just when the oppo were going for it and finished with 1 for 14 from his allotted 8. They were the pick of the bunch but Sayid Quasim bowled decent spin for not much reward. They got 191 off 40 overs with 10 men mostly over cow.

We replied (with 9 men) with gusto and determination with man-of-the-match Al "Capone" Luff hitting 66 not out and the rest chipping in. Popey got 30 odd and we won within the last over. Everyone got a game and it was a good way to end the season...

Thanks for the opportunity to be in charge. Next time Iwon't leave everything until half an hour from the start!! But it all worked out in the end....Had

Blackheath XI tied with Carl Rackemann All Stars (Cras) (Sunday Friendly)
Blackheath 188-7, CRAS 188-9.
A match that went down to the wire, a last ball thriller and included everything good about cricket - runs, big 6's, dropped catches, run outs, close calls, golden ducks, JT prodding it around for 50, a flat Greenwich Park wicket, Doris's teas, Weasels leg spin and all in 35 overs a side. Blackheath won the toss and batted, James Crutcher clipped 10 runs from the first over and looked a million dollars. Next over he missed the straight one - and looked a million lira (courtesy M Featherstone). A solid partnership by Balwyn & Blackheath star, Nick Courtney (53 retired) & JT (50) built the base for a decent score.

The Cras reply was determined and measured. Two big scores from Big Tony Poppa (43) and Mike (74*) kept the scoreboard ticking over at a decent pace. Cras needed 9 to win off the last over and after a 2 dot balls, a quick single by Spencer allowed Mike at the batting crease. One dot, and big straight 4 meant 3 to win. A clean smear to mid wicket, was cut off by Joe Pearce who gathered well and threw the ball clean and straight ensuring that just two runs were scored. A tie.

The game was arranged by CRAS & Blackheath man Andrew Farthing (who we will see more of next year) and the Blackheath team was augmented by Ausie brothers Scott & Craig Morton and Paul.

That appears to be the last game of the season - although Weasel was keen to hear from anyone that wants a game this (19th) weekend. If the weather and numbers puts paid to that remember that the End of Season Dinner will take place at the Rectory Field on Friday 8th October. Make an effort to attend, as it's a great way to cap off another good season at Blackheath.

Communication Bulletin - 6th September 2004

Finally the summer has arrived - the benefits of global warming are clear for all to see. While that will also mean that places like Greenwich will be 5 foot underwater and Belvedere will be rebuilt the marina's for the millonaires. Although the league programme has finished Blackheath fielded three teams this weekend.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath XI beat Belvedere by 101 runs (Friendly)
Blackheath 226-5, Belvedere 125-9
As the long summer rolls on this friendly fixture was played in blazing sunshine under the strong guidance of Sheffield Steel. Good innings from Dan Stokes (60), Abid Ahmed (50) & Rob Eslam (35) meant a big total. The bowlers responded well as Chris Collinson picked up 3 wickets in one over, supported by straight bowling from Ward (2) and H Luff (2) giving Blackheath a comfortable win.

Blackheath XI lost to London Nigeria by 6wickets (Sunday Friendly)
Blackheath 147-8, London Nigerians 148-4
Blackheath batted well enough, good scores from Abid, Janiad and Kamra and looked like it could have been a good enough total. However a big 80 from Nigerian Victor and it was all over.

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI beat Granby
Blackheath, Granby
A Report to follow -- Main points on the message board

There is just one more weekend of the extended Blackheath cricket season. It's a good feeling to keep rolling out the teams and enjoying the matches while the weather holds out.

Communication Bulletin - 30th August 2004

Well that's it, another league season is over, Saturday afternoons just aren't the same and it means I have no excuse not to get dragged on trips to Ikea!!!! All in all a pretty reasonable season for the club, big shame the 1's never got promotion they deserved but will just have to make sure of it next year, but well done to the 4's did get promoted in their first season and ended unbeaten.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI winning draw against The Mote home [Kent league].
Blackheath 162-8 in 50 overs, The Mote 115-7 in 50 overs
A better result for the 1's to finish the season and end up a respectable 3rd place, just off automatic promotion. Batting first and getting 162 with Dwayno 28 before he jets off back home, Jerms 59 and Bazza 25. The Mote then shut up shop stopping the win with Rupert 3-24 and Handsy 3-36. (What the papers said)

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Sevenoaks Vine away by 2 wickets away [Kent league].
Sevenoaks Vine 143 all out, Blackheath 144-8 in 28.5 overs
Always nice beating the champions, but to do it twice in 1 season is even nicer. An inspired spell from Chucker Jones with 6-27 off 12 kept the total down and then Hutchy saw us home with 60 and Gaz a typically robust 21. A respectable 5th place finish in their first year in the Premier league and plenty of promise for next season.

Blackheath 3rd XI
Match abandoned.

Blackheath 3A Xl beat HSBC by 32 runs (South Thames League)
Blackheath 190-7, HSBC 158 all out
Hussan with 76, Tom Nicholson 23, Weasel 22 and Luffy 22 set up a good total, then bowled out HSBC to get a much deserved with Shakeeb 3-38 and Luffy 3-16. A pretty good season in all, finishing 4th.

Blackheath 4rd XI beat Halstead who conceded.
Well done fellas and a much deserved promotion. The fear of facing the mighty Blackeath must have been too much for Halstead.

Laron S, Syed Q, JT, Rob Eslam, Tom Nicholson
John D, Sanoon, Alastair D, Elliot P, Ravi D

Right that's my lot for this season. They'll be reports from the 3 matches this weekend and Wrighty will let us know the full story from the match on the 12th .

Don't forget the club dinner and your captains should be in touch to confirm the date - which is the 8th October. Hope you all have good winters and I'll see you next April.

Up the club,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 23rd August 2004

After a weeks cricket tour we were expecting anyone that took the trip to Cornwall to be in the form of their lives. Sadly British weather meant the only practice that happened was in the bar and also meant that the wickets resembled April not August.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI lost to Tunbridge Wells home by 6 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 109 all out, Tunbridge Wells 112 in 35.4 overs
A result that sadly means promotion doesn't look possible this season despite. Batting first the 1's were all out cheaply with Firey 33 and Dwayno 27. And even 3-45 from Handsy couldn't inspire a win.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Lordswood away by 5 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 137 all out, Lordswood 139-5 in 29.5 overs
Always a lovely fixture this one! Batting first and not getting enough runs on a wet wicket with Nosher 20 and Woodsy 25. Then despite setting off like a train and trying to win the game inside 10 overs we pulled ourselves back into it mainly due to an inspired spell of 4-25 from Bazza. It didn't prove enough in the end, but the 2's are still guaranteed Premier cricket next year.

Blackheath 3rd XI
Match abandoned due to rain - see I told you it was more like April!

Blackheath 3A Xl beat Hayes by 6 wickets (South Thames League)
Hayes 154 all out, Blackheath 155 for 4
Captained by Chairman Mao (JT) the 3A's strolled to victory. On a ropey pitch, the first over consisted of 5 wides in a row. Accordingling Redders was asked to "take a blow" by Mao. From the next over we all bowled tightly with Luffy burgling 4 for 8 at the end, and Redders somehow ending up wicketless after 4 dropped catches in 2 overs (never guess who sent me this report!) , ending in him kicking his cap all the way as he was sent to long leg.. Classic JT batting (60 +) and Hussnan (29) got us off to a flying start and from then it was never in doubt.

Blackheath 4rd XI beat Blackheath Select by 122runs
Blackheath 201 all out, Blackheath Select 79 all out
The 4's keep rolling on. Al Dunning 78 and Mohammed Kamra 55 rescued the team from 5 for 2. Steve Coetzee and Chris Collinson with 3 wickets each were the pick of the bowlers.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st Xl beat Romford and Gidea Park by 16 runs
Romford and Gidea Park 187 all out, Blackheath 203 for 5
A super game of cricket saw Blackheath without map, address or directions (Captain Calamity back at the helm) eventually show up at the Romford ground. We batted first on a good pitch, which saw Peter Dean do the biz once again with 56, sharing a 100 stand with Nick Courtney. We wobbled losing 4 wickets for 2 runs, before Junaid and Hussnan (42 no) steadied it, and then Dwayne biffed it about. In reply Laron (3 for 25) bowled superbly, as did Alex Senn in his unbroken spell. A late onslaught from their number 10 saw a close-ish finish in a very agreeable game and oppo.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat The Earlswood Strollers by 8 wickets
Earlswood 111 all out, Blackeath 112-2 in 36 overs.
Another win for the Sunday 2's which coincided with Lambchops winning the toss and some good bowling from Goffa Williams 3-22 off 8 and Lambchops 2-26 off 8. The Elliot 35 and Shaks 23 put on a 69 run opening stand with Monster 21* finishing it off at the end.

Highlights of the match were a fat bloke from the rugby team chasing some pikey kids into the bushes, Yorkie taking two catches to get rid of good bats (and working up a mongrel in the process), Lambchop's Ricky Ponting-esque run out (heh. i honestly couldn't see the ball), the Barraccuda dubbing Hudd "The 'Nid", and us WINNING! Plus special mention for Crispy efforts helping the team out during the day.

Right that's my lot, last league game Saturday so let's make it a good day for the club.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 16th August 2004

A mixed bag of results this week and with 2 games left of the season most teams still have plenty to play for.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI lost to Gravesend away by 7 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 156-9 in 50 overs, Gravesend 157-3 in 50 overs
A result the 1's could have done without but they are still 2nd in the table pushing for automatic promotion. Firey 24 and Peter Dean 39 with the only real contributions.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Gravesend home by 130 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 213-8, Gravesend 83 all out
A comprehensive win for the 2's which pushes them up to 3rd in the table. 24 for Nosher, 30 for John O and 27 from Deano but the star performance was a fantastic 83 from Gaz Honour. Gravesend then shut up shop in the 4th over with Watty 3-16, Woods 3-15, Bazza 2-12 and the ridiculously economical Brasso 2-4 in 9.2 overs.

Blackheath 3rd XI
No Game

Blackheath 3A Xl lost to Tunbridge Wells away by 3 wickets (South Thames League)
Blackheath 122-8, Tunbridge Wells 125-7
A story of not enough runs with only Wale 29 and Luffy 24 getting scores and even Steffan Olivier's 4-22 off 12 couldn't inspire a win.

Blackheath 4rd XI beat Wilmington by 50 runs
Blackheath 185-9 off 46 overs, Wilmington 135-8 off 46 overs
Stifling bowling from Rupert Hill (happy birthday Rupi), Chris Collinson, Simon Ward and Rob Worthington with 4-25 off 12 ensured Wilmington never really got going. Earlier Hutchy 56 and Al Dunning 31 put on a 79 opening stand to set a basis for victory. This win clinches the title at the first attempt with the team 5 points clear with 2 games in hand.

SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Dulwich by 13 runs
Dulwich 137-7, Blackheath 124 all out
A good bowling and fielding performance on a dodgy looking pitch couldn't inspire the 2's to a win. Lauren picked up 3-15 and Joffa Williams snared 1-17.
The batting was terrible with only Monster and Jim Fleming forging what could have been a match winning partnership. Monster dug in which irritated the bowlers, and Fleming knocked the singles around. The Spanner went to Trounce for terrible keeping and getting the ball in the head via his 'Crocodile' keeping technique.

Right that's my lot.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 09th August 2004

The first week of August as always saw plenty of cricket down at the Rectory with our annual cricket week. What's more, the sun came out and graced us and luckily by Saturday we didn't have any serious injuries and the batsmen were seeing it like footballs. Then to cap things off we had a lovely sunny Saturday which saw some good results for the club, with 4 of the 5 teams getting wins (we must be fair weather cricketers down at the Heath).

CRICKET WEEK

Blackheath lost David Fox Select XI (Monday Cricket Week)
Blackheath 210 in 40 overs, Select XI 211 in 32 overs
A lesson in how to smash the bad ball on a great batting track. Blackheath batted first with Janaid Ahmed scoring a well deserved 100 for the Club. Support from Ragnuth & Taylor produced a reasonable total. However David Golbey (Catford Cyphers) attacked from ball one and hit anything wide, short, long, on the wicket etc. He scored a quick fire 120 and won the game.

Blackheath:
Mumbles, Crisp, Dhaliwal, Lee, Ahmed S, Amhend J, Betts
Pope, Jones, Taylor, Ragnuth, Sanoon

Blackheath beat Rest of the World (Tuesday Cricket Week)
Blackheath 1st Innings 124 all out, Row 110 for 8
Blackheath 2nd Innings 135 for 5, Row 148 for 7
Two innings of nail biting cricket, which saw Blackheath emerge victorious in the last over. Great batting from Dwane Petley (50+) in the first innings was matched by 50's from Warren and Barry Lee and Hadleigh Luff in the 2nd. The Blackheath bowlers of Ravi, Big Ben Betts, Laron, Abid and Stevens did enough to subdue the RoW in the 2nd innings. After an hour was lost for rain Blackheath chased the total in a composed manner.

Blackheath: W Lee, Abid, Crisp, Betts, Dhaliwal, Wilcox
Pope, Sequeria, Taylor, Stevens, Luff

Rest of the World:
Coetze, Ahmed S, Wright, Lee B, Ahmed J, Yorke
Raja, Gafa, Petley, Courtney, Searchfield

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Dartford Halls home by 112 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 238-6, Dartford Halls 126 all out
A good performance and a comprehensive win for the 1's. Rawlo 57, Handsy 69 and Dwayno 66 n.o. helped set a good total. Then Dwayno being economical and effective with 3 for 9 off 7.5 and Handsy getting more wickets, 5-27, bowled Dartford out and it leaves the 1's well positioned in a very tight run in for promotion. No Complacency, No Slip Ups and .Keep Fighting.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Dartford Halls away by 2 wickets [Kent league].
Dartford Halls 237-9, Blackheath 238-8 in 49.3 overs
A good win for the 2's having been set a decent total. Bazza bowled well with 3-18 and Woodsy bowled like an idiot with 4-70. Then Nosher 71 and Deano 76 set about their bowling and Woods 56 n.o. helped see us home at the end with 3 balls left.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat RASRA Eagles by 2 wickets [League]
RASRA 181-7, Blackheath 184-8
Hasnan got 3-40 to keep the RASRA total below 200 and then Wilco 23, Dean Naidoo 53, Weasel 23 and Ben Wilco 32 all chipped in to see the 3's to another win.

Blackheath 3A Xl lost to Bromley by 8 wickets (South Thames League)
Blackheath 165-8, Bromley 168-2
Saffa Steffan Olivier bashed 58 not out, Dave 44, Abid 25, with not a lot to write about on the bowling front.

Blackheath 4rd XI beat Pimlico Strollers by 9 wickets [League]
Pimlico 111 all out, Blackheath 115-1
A sunny stroll in the park for the 4th XI, with Ben Bett's 80 being the highlight. Al Dunning (24*) got the other runs, while the wickets were shared around with Chris Collinson, Sam Hart and Ravi Dhaliwall all bowling well,

Right that's my lot.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 02nd August 2004

Some big scores from the sides this week with both 1's and 2's posting in excess of 250 on a lovely sunny day in London. With Hutchy then pulling out the classics from his record box it proved to be a good weekend for most of us.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI winning draw against Bickley Park away [Kent league].
Blackheath 256-6, Bickley Park 116-9 in 50 overs
A good performance but sadly the 1's couldn't get the last wicket. Rawlo 34, Handsy 43, Jerms 66, Mel 26 and Firey 54n.o. all helped set a good total. Then Dwayno with more wickets, 3-39 and Handsy being economical with 4-15 off 13 overs.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Bromley home [Kent league].
Blackheath 292-6 in 50 overs, Bromley 93 all out by 199 runs
A pretty convincing win and much needed win against our neighbours. A good total with Nosher 67, Calners 64, John O 52, Deano 31, Woodsy 35n.o. and Gaz 27n.o smashing the ball to all parts. Then 6-10 from Woodsy helped bowl them out.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Dartfordians by 115 runs [League]
Blackheath 215-6, Dartfordians 100 all out
The 3rds continued on their merry way with a sound victory. After being sent in to bat on a hard, dry wicket on a warm day, Blackheath made 215 for 6 with runs coming from Dean Naidoo (60*), Courts (45), Windsor (25) and Hutch (23). Dartfordians were rolled for 100 in reply with 3 wickets apiece to Jason Windsor, Weasel and Tommy G. A solid victory celebrated in good style at the school disco!

Blackheath 3A Xl lost to Blackheath Wanderers by 45 runs (South Thames League)
Blackheath Wanderers 203-9, Blackheath 158 all out
10 men 3As sadly lost this one. Husnan 4-27 and Luffy 3-37 bowled tidily but the batting fell away despite 42 from James Crutcher and Abid, 21.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 2's beat Godstone by 3 wickets (Friendly)
Blackheath 127-8, Godstone 126-7.
Again the upper order failed with the bat against some very tight bowling by Godstone. It was up to Monster (46) and Laverton (25) with a 70 odd run partnership to save Blackheath from humiliation. Monster dug in and would not give away his wicket. Laverton batted superbly for a gritty 25. Without these guys it would have been embarrasing.

The Pope and Collinson batted well at the end to push us over 100. Our bowling and fielding was great under the leadership of The Turtle.
Crispy 1-24 off 7. The Pimp Daddy as efficient as ever with 0-26 off 7. The Turtle - tighter than a fish's arse - 1-11 off 7. Monster at the death with
2-13 off 4. Laverton not letting anything through in the covers, and Lambchops taking two catches. The pick of the bowling was Collinson with 3-30 off 7.

Highlights of the day were Monster and Laverton batting like our lives were in their hands, the cut out rabbit and duck boundary markers, birds with very little on watching us play, the oppo captain buying us a jug, an umpire who needed a seeing eye dog, and Collinson's 'electro drumming' in the car on the way home (someone please steal Pygmy's car radio!).

The Spanner went to Charlie (undeservedly I think) for dropping two very difficult catches.

Well done on a win, Turtle.

[If you like these ... try Simon Says .......]

Right that's my lot.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 26th July 2004

A good win for the 1's this week who finished a match for the first time in 3 weeks, and the 3's keep up their push for promotion. However the 2's and 3A's managed to slip up.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Harvel home [Kent league].
Blackheath 241 all out, Harvel 175 all out
A good win for the 1's in their promotion push. Batting first and getting 241 with Handsy 52, Rawlo 54 and Jerms 43 all contributing. Five for Dwayno, finishing with 5-54 and Rupert with 4-29 did the damage and gaining another 20 points.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Beckenham & Sydenham away [Kent league].
Beckenham & Sydenham 211-8 in 50 overs, Blackheath 168 all out
B*llocks! Really could have done without losing this one. Beckenham got too many with Kam 3-34 and Woodsy 3-45 getting some luck. Lost wickets at key times and Deano with 42 and looking in good touch, John 0 22, Junaid 24 and Woods 30 couldn't stop us losing a game we needed to win.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Centymca by 4wickets [League]
Centymca 130 all out, Blackheath 133-6 in 42.3 overs
3's still riding high with a win. Good performance from Tom Gaydon with 6-37 helped restrict the oppo. Then 22 from Courts, 24 from Dean Naidoo and 42 n.o. from Jason Windsor to help see them to victory.

Blackheath 3A Xl lost to Bickley by 3 wickets (South Thames League)
Blackheath 155 all out, Bickley 156-7
Having been 76-2 the 3A's sadly couldn't capitalise on the good start. Wale Kadiri 39, including a valuable last wicket partnership, Dave 38 and Paul Valentine 24 got the majority of the runs. But even Luffy 3-27 - all 3 in an over - Ticha 2-29 bowling really well, and Rupi 2-36 solid as a rock, couldn't stop Bickley getting the runs.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Gravesend by 141 runs (friendly)
Blackheath 226 all out in 40 overs, Gravesend 85 all out in 36 overs
A good win for the unbeaten 4th XI, set up by strong batting which featured an attacking 60 by Laron, 30 from junior sledger Elliot Pugh and 32 quick fire runs from the timely Syed. The pick of the bolwers was John Dodson who kept the dog at bay this week and debutant Ravi Dahliwal, who bowled a disciplined line and length. Great keeping (magnificent leg side stumping) rounded off some excellent fielding. A thorough job.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's lost to Sevenoaks by 3 wickets - Readers League
Blackheath 213 for 8, Sevenoaks 214-7.
With only 10 men (C/o Calamity - Ed) Blackheath managed to get a good total with Bazza 47no, Husnan Nadir 33, Warren Lee 30 and Deano 26. With Sevenoaks requiring 33 off the last 4 overs the 1's were in a good position however they got them with 5 balls. Scott Boswell was the main man with 4 wickets but the dropped catches cost dearly.

Blackheath Sunday 2's lost to Tatsfield away by 39 runs (Friendly)
Tatsfield 115 all out. Blackheath 76 all out
After a good win last week a disappointing result followed this. A good bowling performance with Tooter 3-15, Marston 3-18, Crispy 2-37, Lambchops 2-13 However the batting with the exception of Spiderman Hudd let the side down. Highlights were Jamie 'Hound Dog' Yorke taking the ball for walkies and four runs, Dave 'Pimp Daddy' Marston's hilarious fielding attempts at belly flopping the ball, and Elliot Pugh's embarrassing 'sledging'. The spanner went to Yorkie for 'walkies', and falling over while batting.

Right that's my lot. Hutchy has organsied the school disco Saturday which is always a laugh so remember to pull out the old tie and cap.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 19th July 2004

Well I take a week off and the 2's go and secure a much needed win on Saturday, maybe it's time I hung up my boots. Yet again the bowlers did the business this week and there were some good results for the club. Mind you, Handsy must be wondering when the 1's will next finish a game having had the last 2 abandoned when in a good position.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI incomplete vs Holmesdale home [Kent league].
Blackheath 159 all out, Holmesdale 56-5 in 30 overs
Sadly once more it rained at the wrong time for the 1's when they were in another good position. Batting first and getting 159 with Rawlo 39, Handsy 36 and Mel 40 getting the majority of the runs. They had had Holmesdale at 56-5 with Rupert picking up 3 wickets for 11 runs off 7 before the rain stopped the game.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Bexley away [Kent league].
Bexley 138 all out, Blackheath 139 - 3 off 32 overs
Another must win game for the 2's which this time they won. Having bowled Bexley out for 138, with Calners getting 3-39 and Weasel wrapping up the tail and ending with the impressive figures of 3-0. Then Calners 76 laid the foundations supported by John O with 46n.o.

Blackheath 3rd XI lost to Betsham by 65 runs [League]
Betsham 195 all out, Blackheath 130 all out
Despite bowling Betsham out with Tom Gaydon picking up 3-64 and Laron Sequeria getting 3-34 Blackheath came up short with Courts 20, Syed 24 and Tom 20n.o.

Blackheath 3A Xl beat Orpington by 8 runs (South Thames League)
Blackheath 208-7, Orpington 201-8
Having recorded 208-7 with Husnan 62 and Abid scoring 52 in true playboy style,
Orpington came up 7 short thanks largely to 'International star' Clive 6-58 in his last game for 3 weeks while he joins up with the Nigerian side.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Halsted by 5 wickets
Halsted 128, Blackheath 129 - 5
The 4's remain unbeaten this year, Playing against Halstead they restricted them to 128, Macca picked up 4 wickets, Sam Hart 3 and Rob Worthington got 2. A great 100 opening partnership between Mark Macateer 45n.o. and Saad Usman 42 helped see the 4's home losing only 1 wicket. The 4's are now 20 points clear at the top of the table.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's lost to Dartford by 25 runs - Readers League
Dartford 198 for 7, Blackheath 173 all out.
A young side did their best to compete against a savvy bunch of Dartfordians. Barry Lee bowled quickly first up, but in particular the spin twins of `Big Scott Boswell` and Ross `Abi` Titmuss were sensational, bowling their 8 overs each in tandem for just 50 runs in a 40 over game. In reply, Junaid 37 and Ross (the all rounder now - 24 n.o.) kept us in touch, but we paid the price for wayward bowling at the end of their innings.

Blackheath Sunday 2's beat Upchurch by 16 runs (Friendly)
Blackheath 193-8, Upchurch 121-5
The Sunday 2's have finally won their first match for the season. Laron Sequeira 37 and Martin 'Monster' Longstaff 30 steadied the middle order with an excellent partnership and Baraccuda Brooks 68 n.o off 32 balls saw them to a great total. The bowling was then very tight, with all the bowlers conceding next to nothing and the pick of the bowling being Tooter with 2-16 off 8.

Highlights included the Baraccuda smashing the ball over the sightscreen for 6, Lambchops managing to end up on his face when trying to move 3 meters, and Ruba nearly doing a poo while setting himself up for a catch (interesting!). And, the spanner went to the Pope for his keeping...chesting the ball football style rather than using his gloves.

Right that's my lot, I'm not hanging up my boots and looking forward to some sunshine this weekend.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 12th July 2004

Sadly it rained at the wrong time for some of us this week stopping the 1's getting maximum points against Sandwich, however even with Nosher dancing away it wouldn't come down at the Rectory to save the 2's. With good wins for the 3's, 3A's and 4's though it wasn't too bad a weekend with the bowlers doing well again.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI incomplete vs Sandwich away [Kent league].
Blackheath 201-71 off 50 overs, Sandwich 159-9 in 46 overs
Unlucky for the 1's with rain coming just at the wrong time with 4 overs remaining - why does that always happen? Rawlo 57, Jerms 57 and Dwayno 45 helped set a decent total and with Dwayno 3-41 off 13 and Jerms 5-35 off 12 helping (they both got their money's worth) get the 1's in a good position before it rained.

Blackheath 2nd XI drew with Sandwich home [Kent league].
Sandwich 158 all out, Blackheath 112 - 8 in 51 overs,
A must win game for the 2's which we sadly didn't win. Having restricted Sandwich to 158 with Watty getting 3-29 off 14 and Woodsy 4-45 we were pretty optimistic. However, the batting never really materialised with only Nosher 28 and Calners 28 getting any runs.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Beckenham & Sydenham by 2 wickets [League]
The 3s made it 2 in a row in a match that seemingly broke Kent records by finishing on the wrong side of 8:30pm following rain interruptions. After Beckenham & Sydenham were sent in, the bowlers shared the wickets around with Chris Stevens, Tom Gaydon and Barry Lee taking 2 wickets each. After some shaky moments, Courts, Barry (incl. one MASSIVE six) and Tommy G were able to put together some match-winning partnerships to get the team over the line.

Blackheath 3rd XI - 2004

Tom Stevens, Syed Qasim, Chris Stevens, Tom Gaydon, Peter Farrier, Mohammad Kamara, Graeme Mc Queen
Nigel Sedgely, Kam Raja, Nick Courtney (Capt), Jon Taylor, Barry Lee

Blackheath 3A Xl beat Hartley by 9 wickets (South Thames League)
Hartley 90 all out, Blackheath 91 for 1.
A stroll in the park for Blackheath 3A's, as they go up to 2nd in the table. Building on a tight start from Steffan `Laurence` Olivier and Clive-O, then a couple of sharp run-outs to go with Rupi Hills' 3 for 14 and Redders 3 for 15 saw them all out for a low score. The fresh legs of Ross `Abi` Titmuss (29 n.o.) and Junaid (36 n.o.) soon saw us home.

Leading from the front - Nick Courtney - Chanceless 70 not out

Blackheath 4th XI beat Wickham Park by 5 wickets
Wickham Park 121 all out, Blackheath 122 - 5
6 wins out of 6 for the 5ths, and top of the league, with 2nd place to play this Saturday. Wickets shared around as Wickham Park amassed just 121. Shakeeb Ahmed (35) and Mark McAteer (53) got the runs for the Club. Debutants Ben Hughes and James "Scupper" Mitchell settled in well, with runs and a classic catch at sqaure leg.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's beat Putney by 16 runs (Friendly)
Blackheath 267 for 5, Putney 251 for 9
An absolute run-fest on a damp, soft one saw Greg Rickards record his 2nd Sunday ton with a great knock of 114. Indeed, Greg and Calners (38) got us off to a flyer with 100 coming up inside 12 overs!! John O (35 not out) kept the momentum going. With some generous field placing and some murderous batting from their skipper, we made a game of it which insured an 8pm finish on a Sunday. Lovely! Crispy, it should be said, keeping a cool head bowling at the death.

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI lost to Lamorery Park
Blackheath 115 all out 30 overs, Lamorey Park 201 in double quick time.
Frustrating game, where there was not enough commitment shown by the batters, no partnerships - while the bowling was well off target. Spanner goes to the team - Must do better.

Right that's my lot.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Blackheath vs The Druids : Deano (154) & Lambchops (102) celebrate big win against tree huggers.

Communication Bulletin - 5th July 2004

Some comprehensive wins this week which is always nice to see, and our bowlers all seem to be do a good job of keeping the oppo's totals low.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Canterbury home by 9 wickets [Kent league].
Canterbury 130 all out, Blackheath 131-1 off 33.2 overs
A fantastic result from the 1's against fellow promotion rivals Canterbury. Restricting Canterbury to 130 with Handsy spinning his way to 7-36 they knocked the runs off 1 wicket down with Rawlo seeing it home with 62n.o, Jerms smashing it about 45n.o and Handsy 21.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to St Lawrence away by 4 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 174 - 6 in 50 overs, St Lawrence 176- 6 in 42.4 overs
Not enough runs from the 2's again with only John O 62n.o Woodsy 48 and Nosher 20 getting any runs. Despite having their moments St Lawrence got the runs 6 down with only Watty 3-26 having any real joy.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Bromley by 2 wickets [League]
Bromley 115 all out, Blackheath 116-8.
A good game with the 3's coming out on top. Having bowled Bromley out for 115 with Tom Gaydon 4-52 getting more wickets, and Laron Sequeria finishing with impressive figures of 4-26 off 10.4 overs. With Tongy retiring hurt the 3's only really had 10 batsman but made the total thanks to Calners 25, Bazza 26 and Weasel 36n.o. used his experience to stay cool and see the team home.

Blackheath 3A Xl beat Gravesend by 4 wickets (South Thames League)
Gravesend 111-9 in 42 overs, Blackheath 112 -6 in 32 overs.
Good game to win against verbally competitive opponents. They struggled to reach 111 with Rupi keeping it tight and getting 2 wickets and "Big" Stefan Olivier ripped out the middle order with impressive figures of 10 overs, 5 wickets for just 10 runs. Alan Luff picked up an important wicket. Batting from James Crutcher (38) & Clive Ogbimi (24) stood out, with support from the others. Good win that takes the team to 3rd place.

Blackheath 4th XI lost to Caribbean cc by 188 runs [friendly]
Caribbean cc 184 all out Blackheath 121 all out.
Having been set 185 to win with Chris being the pick of the bowlers getting 2-27 off 8 overs the 4's only managed 121 with Asad getting a good 42, Shakeeb scoring 20 and Chris getting 20

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1st XI vs Hayes (Readers League)

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI v Westbury - away (friendly)
Westbury 190 - 5, Blackheath 150 all out
Good bowling from Carson 'Barraccuda' Brooks with 1-17 off 8 and Laron was just as efficient with 1-22 off 8 helped restrict Westbury. Then Lambchops with 26 and Pygmy 36 opened up the reply under a barrage of insults and Afrikan abuse they put on an opening partnership of 76 runs. Sadly, the batting went downhill from there, although Dwayno smashed 29 off about 3 balls with Laron in support with 9.

Right that's my lot but can I request that whoever has been doing a rain dance for the last month to stop please as I want to play some cricket under blue skies rather than grey.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 28th June 2004

No game for the 1's this week meant a few more spectators watching the 2's get their first home win of season. And with wins for the 3A's and 4's it proved to be a good Saturday, if not cold, afternoon.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Sevenoaks Vine home by 8 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 144 all out in 47.5 overs, Sevenoaks Vine 136 all out in 49.2 overs
A much needed first home win of the season for the 2's. Having crawled to 144 all out with 46 from Woods we at least felt we had something to defend if we bowled and fielded well, which we managed to do. Your correspondent managed to get 5-33 before Brasso finished off the tail with 2-34 as it was getting rather tense!

Blackheath 3rd XI lost to Bexley Park by 53 runs [Kent league]
Blackheath 162 in 50 overs, Bexley 163-4
After the good result the week before the 3's were confident, however they didn't produce their best performance. Peter Dean starred on his return to 3rds cricket to reach 50 with handy knocks by Hussnan 22 and Weasel 22 helping Blackheath reach 162 - which looked like a competitive score. Sadly it didn't prove to be enough and Bexley Park got the runs only losing 4 wickets.

Blackheath 3A XI beat HSBC at home by 5 wickets [League]
HSBC 122 for 9 in 48 overs, Blackheath 123 for 5 in 41 overs
Blackheath kept it tight in the drizzle, bowling first up with Clive and El Tel Hall (3 fer and a run out) performing well. Rupi Hill proved he still has wheels as Paul Valentine made the mistake of standing up to him, and got Rupi's quicker one on the hooter. Rupi eventually ended up with 4 for 8 off 7 overs. The 'Heath's reply wobbled at 30-odd for 3 but Redders and then Luffy (45 not out) shared a 50 stand that steadied the ship and saw us home.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Snodland by 188 runs [League]
Blackheath 244 for 8 in 46 overs, Snodland 56 all out.
A comprehensive victory for the 4's. After batting first and notching up 244 with Syed Qasim 48, Rob Sayce 45, Al Dunning 27, Simon Ward 25 n.o. and Chris Truss 20. They then skittled the oppo for 56 with Simon Ward getting 5-20 and John Dobson 3-16.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's v Fives & Heronians - Match Abandoned - rain

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI v ACC - Match Abandoned - rain (friendly)
Blackheath bowled first and ACC made about 220 with Wrighty getting two cheeky wickets with 2-45 off 8. The spanner went to Ruba for dropping catches and using his innovative 'Turn My Back' on the Ball fielding technique.

So it's the halfway point of the season already. Let's hope for the second half the weather improves and there are some sunny weekends ahead and that those teams near the top of the table puch for promotion and those near the bottom avoid relegation (what does that word mean - Ed).

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 21st June 2004

Sadly not the best of weekends with only 2 wins across both days, mind you the good old British summer weather had something to do with that. Wimbledon starts, and sure enough the rain isn't far behind.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI lost to Tunbridge Wells away by 62 runs [Kent league].
Tunbridge Wells 187-8 in 50 overs, Blackheath 125 all out
A decent performance in the field restricting Tunbridge Wells to 187 with Handsy getting 4-60 and Omar 3-55. Sadly though the batting let us down with only Firey 20, Dwayno 23 and Swaddy 20 getting runs.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Lordswood home by 3 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 170-6 in 50 overs, Lordswood 173-7 in 49.4 overs
The second game of the season the 2's lose with 2 balls left (spare a thought for the bowler who's been bowling the last over each time please!). Batting first we got 170 with Wilco getting a valuable 48 n.o, John O 28 and Nosher 20. The odd slip up in the field, though cost us Watty being pick of the bowlers with 4-36 off 15.

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Centymcca 1st XI by 53 runs [Kent league]
Blackheath 181-7 in 50 overs, Centymcca 128 all out
Winning start for new captain Nick Courtney, plus he got 41 runs - no pressure. Junaid 31, Dean Nadoo 32 and Weasel 32 all contributed to a decent total. Then Kam 4-17 and Chris Stevens 3-26 helped bowl Centymcca out for 128 and moving the 3's up to third in the league.

Blackheath 3A XI lost to Hayes by 6 wickets [Kent league]
Blackheath 200-9 in 48 overs, Hayes 204-4 off 46.3 overs
Despite setting a decent total the 3A's sadly came off second best. More runs for the Wale 61, with Vince German 35 (skipper says welcome back) and Paul Valentine 26. However, even Terry Hall getting 3-68 couldn't stop Hayes getting the runs with overs and wickets to spare.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Wilmington 3rd XI home by 5 wickets [Kent league]
Blackheath 211 for 8 in 46 overs, Wilmington 204 for 6 from 46.
Batting first, Blackheath notched 211 for 8 from 46 overs. Syed Qasim 39 made a strong start with Mark McAteer 38, and the on form Asad Nasir 42, including some confident stroke play. Simon Ward, 2 for 33 from 12 kept it tight with Chris Collinson taking key wickets with 2 for 47 from 12 as Blackheath managed to win in the final over.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's v Holmesdale - Match Abandoned - rain
Holmesdale 52 for 6 when the heavens opened, after having them as little as 32 for 6. Warren Lee, 3 for 9 bowling like the wind and Laron bowling a good line and pace too with 3 for 32 - (scout and captain Redders insists somebody signs him up quickly - (Redders - Read the earlier match reports - Ed). Then it peed down, had a nice tea, Shakeeb put his vest on and Junaid watched Eastenders....

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI v Tatsfield Village Match Abandoned - rain (friendly)
A rain affected game with Blackheath batting first. James 'Dravid' Tootell with a sheet anchor 22, Joe 'The Specialist' Pearce 37 and Carson 'Carsick' Brooks 16 helped Blackheath post 106. A defendable total considering the conditions and the fact we were a team stacked with bowlers (mainly due to"Mr Saturday Night" Redders pinching 2 batsmen). Sadly the game was the abandoned due to the weather.

This Friday is the quiz night up at the club, organised by Hutchy and at a mere £5 per head which includes buffet, prizes etc, so all that can make it please do and if your not in a team it's not a problem. And, lets hope this miserable weather clears up for the weekend so we all get our games in.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 15th June 2004

What a bizarre weekend. All starts off with some joker on the Blackheath message board having a go at the 2's - which helped inspire us to victory so thanks whoever you were -then the 3A's have their match called off (at 6,30 on a Friday evening - thank you Tunbridge) so only 3 of the 5 sides have league games. Then Sunday, well up until the 89th minute of a certain football match I was having a good day, and then it all went wrong.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI lost to Gravesend at home by 12 runs [Kent league].
Gravesend 263-1 in 50 overs, Blackheath 251-8 all out
Despite the total set by Gravesend the 1's were still confident of getting there and continuing there good start to the season. Rawlo with 46, Peter Dean 24, Jerms 54, Handsy 26 and Mel 21 all contributed but sadly we fell short and were bowled out in the last over.

Blackheath 2nd XI
beat Gravesend away by 2 wickets [Kent league].
Gravesend 200-7 in 50 overs, Blackheath 201-7 in 45.1 overs
The 2's get the first win of the season and what a good game it proved to be. Having restricted Gravesend to 200 in 50 overs with my good self getting 4-37 we were pretty happy at tea (Umpah, Umpah). Trying our best to press the self destruct button when batting we ended up 85-5. However, with Nosher looking in superb form we were less worried. A quick 22 from me, Brasso 33 n.o looking in fine form and seeing us home - but final word goes for the big, big, big man (Nosher) with a classy 91.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Wickham 3rd XI home by 5 wickets [Kent league]
Wickham Park 76 all out, Blackheath 77-5
Laron Sequeria, Simon Ward and John Dodson ripped through the Wickham batting to give Blackheath a seemingly easy target. Things looked bad at 30-5, however Steve Coetzee (21*) and Al Dunning (23*) rescued Blackheath. And, John Dodson got bitten by a dog at deep fine leg.

Blackheath Extra XI lost to Belvedere by 3 runs (Friendly)
Belvedere 159 all out, Blackheath 156 for 8 in 50 overs chasing
A very close run match that went down to the final over. The pick of the bowling was debutant Steffan Olivier (resplendent in new Blackheath XL shirt) and old timer and skipper Terry Hall. The run chase was led by Dean Naidoo who carried his bat for 77 and was assisted by Kadri on the way, but the total was just out of reach. A great effort for a new team with several new faces, all of whom will add to the fabric of the.

Blackheath 3rd XI - No League Match
Blackheath 3A XI - No Report ~ Despite interesting match

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's lost to Hackney Cricket Academy by 7 wickets (Friendly)
Blackheath 187 for 6 (40 overs); Hackney C.A. 188 for 3 off 31 overs.
A difficult game against a talented opposition on a hot day, just what's needed for a Sunday friendly! Nick Courtney with a gutsy 46, Dwayno 37, and a top cameo from Weasel with 40 set a reasonable total. However we struggled with the bowling and Hackney made the runs with 9 overs to spare.

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI beat Blackheath Sunday 3rd XI by 83 runs (friendly)
Blackheath 3's 87 all out, Blackheath 2's 88 in 27 overs
On an interesting wicket Blackheath Sunday 3's batted first and made 87. Skipper Tooter made a solid 32 for the 3's with Collinson 2-18 and Hart 3-24 pick of the bowlers. Then for the 2's Joe Pearce bludgeoned a quick fire 30 and Lambchops 29 n.o.
Spanner went to Ruba for some very irresponsible batting, walking around the ground like a boy band member with his shirt off...and pre-empting him getting wasted on a thimble full of lager.

After a week sat at work looking out of the window at the lovely weather I'm just hopeful this weekend proves to be a good one and there'll be league matches for all of us on Saturday. Plus, don't forget the 20/20 match down the club on Friday night for Min Patel's benefit season, which starts at 6pm. Look forward to seeing you there.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 08th June 2004

An interesting weekend of cricket for the Blackheath players. A thrilling match for the 1s, a second half that resembled England's against Japan by the 2s, and 3s and 3A's both losing but the 4s winning meant Saturday's results were eventful just not all that positive for all of us.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Dartford Halls away by 2 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 191-8 in 50 overs, Dartford Halls 189 all out
What a result. Not sure whether the 1s had Houdini in their team but a great game to win. Struggling at 45-4 until run machine Peter Dean got another 50 and Sheph got his first 50 for the 1s (both finished with 58) and then Swaddy got 10,000 runs - not all in this game but his Kent League first team career. Then after a good start by Dartford, Jerms got hold of the ball and managed to finish with 8-40 and turn the game around. At one point Dartford were 164-3 but it was all over when Firey ran the last man out in the last over.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Dartford Halls home by 69 runs [Kent league].
Dartford Halls 173-8 in 50 overs, Blackheath 104 all out
Talk about a game of 2 halves, first half we did well to restrict the Dartford to 173 with 2 wickets apiece for Watty, Chucker, myself and Kam - who bowled really well on debut - and we were reasonably happy at tea. Second half, well less said the better. Hutchy got a classy 48. See, I said less said the better.

Blackheath 3rd XI lost to Rasra Eagles at home by 59 runs [Kent league].
Rasra Eagles 139 all out, Blackheath 80 all out
Bit like the 2s by the sound of it. A decent bowling and fielding performance, with Chris Stevens 3-35 and Luffy 2-24 being the pick. Then the batting let them down although some bloke called extras top scored with 25. If he keeps that up he'll be in the 2's next week!!!!!!

Blackheath 3A XI lost to Bromley by 151 runs [Kent league].
Bromley 225-8 in 48 overs, Blackheath 75 all out
The third of the poor results. Bromley got too many really and sadly the Blackheath didn't get close in the end.

Blackheath 4th XI beat Blackheath Select 1st XI home by 79 runs [Kent league]
Blackheath 131 all out, Blackheath Select 52 all out
Simon Ward rescuing the 5th XI from 62-6 with a half century containing 11 boundaries, then taking three cheap wickets. Rob Worthington with 4-18 off 12 overs did the damage at the end. Some fine keeping by Tom Stevens on a tricky pitch too

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1's beat Bexleyheath at home by 202 runs (Readers League)
Blackheath 281 for 6, Bexleyheath 79 all out
A good start in the Readers League with Rawlo getting 54, Deano teed off with 96, and then Warren played some superb strokes for a sublime 74. They never really got going, (some suspected that they thought they were playing in a test match), as Chris Stevens ripped out the top order with 4-19. His brother Tom also gave a highly encouraging performance behind the sticks.

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI lost to Grenfell away by 83 runs (friendly)
Grenfell 228, Blackheath 145
Dropped catches cost the Sunday 2's. "Catches Win Matches couldn't be truer. We couldn't hold onto a basketball covered in superglue" Wrighty, 06/06/04. Joffa Williams was the "pick" of the bowlers with 1-40 off 10. Then Wrighty 43 and Yorke 23 put on a 75 run opening stand, but they ended up finishing with 145. Spanner went to Andy Cole for dropping two absolute sitters and a wonderfully crafted 3 ball 6. Interesting, must talk me through that one Wrighty!

Sorry it's a bit later than normal this week, I've been taking punctuality lessons off Redders (The new Omar - Ed).

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 1st June 2004

A Bank Holiday meant plenty of cricket last week, and a bit of a rushed report this week. Some good results, including the 1's continuing with there hunt for automatic promotion and a hundred for one of the team captains, meant that his 3 days off work proved even better than normal for some.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI drew with Bickley Park home [Kent league].
Bickley Park 244-4 in 50 overs, Blackheath 201-8 in 50 overs
Sadly the first lost top spot on Saturday with a losing draw against Bickley Park. Batting first Bickley posted 244. In response we fell 44 short, with 57 on debut for Peter Dean and 42 from Handsy.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Bromley away by 7 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 212-9 in 50 overs, Bromley 216-3 in 49.4 overs
A close game which the 2's couldn't quite win. Good batting from Hutch 31, John O 28 Aussie Wilco 67 and English Wilco 27 gave us a decent total. However, we didn't get off to the best starts bowling and were always playing catch up, with Bromley needing 1 run off the last over to win. Sadly some idiot bowled a full toss fourth ball to make life easy for them! (Where is that trumpet sound - Ed)

Blackheath 3rd XI won Darfordians at home by 55 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 184-6 in 46 overs, Darfordians 129 allout
Maximum points this week for the 3's, with a good all round performance. Batting fisrt the 3's got 184, with Wale 44, Luffy 27, Weasel 25n.o. and Abed (27n.o.) then smashed the ball to all parts at the end to set a decent total. Then it was down to Kam, who was apparently unplayable with figures of 3 - 10 off 14 and Weasel getting 4 - 11. Not a bad game for the skipper.

Blackheath 3A XI won against Blackheath Wanderers by 8 wickets [South Thames].
Blackheath Wanderers 187 all out, Blackheath 191-2 all out
A comprehensive win for the 3A's. Good bowling from Clive with 5-61 and Rupert, 4-41 restricted the total. Then captain marvel Dave Farnell stroked the ball around for a fine 105n.o. with support from Redders 32 and James Crutcher 36. Well done Dave.

Blackheath 4th XI beat New Ash Green away by 205 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 287-7, New Ash Green 82 all out
One of the most comprehensive wins around by the 4's and they only had 10 men. Syed 44, Tom 57, Elliott 60, Asad 30 and Joe 25. On a tricky wicket Laron did most of the damage getting 4 wickets with support from Shiam who picked up 2.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath Sunday 1st XI beat Wanstead away by 6 wickets [Friendly].
Blackheath 285-4 in 40 overs, Wanstead 284 for 6 in 40 overs.
An absolute thriller in Essex, as Blackheath won off the last ball of the day. Redders threw his totys out after some ropey effort play in the field including 59 extras (including 30 wides!!). Only Laron the Saffa with a cheapish 3 and Asad came away with any integrity.
Luckily though he had Dave `Dravid` Farnell getting 70 and Ben `Langer` Wilkinson getting a ton to come to rescue and they put on 170 for the first wicket. Top weekends for those boys!! Once again Greg Rickards showed his class with an unbeaten 48.

Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI lost to Wanstead at home by 100 runs [Friendly].
Blackheath 200 all out, Wanstead 300 for 7 dec.
Simon Wright and Jamie York started the run chase which was required after Wanstead posted a hefty total. With both batters hitting the ball to all parts of the square, anything looked possible. Although the singles were flowing, tight bowling scuppered the effort. At 188 for 8 the spanner attempted a big "6" but was bowled leaving the team stuck 100 runs short.

MONDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat The Mote away by 2 wickets [Kent League].
The Mote 172-5 off 50 overs, Blackheath 174-8.
Against one of the promotion favourites Blackheath produced a solid Bank Holiday performance. Restricting The Mote 172 with Handsy getting 5-55, Blackheath set about trying to get 16 points. Proving it wasn't a fluke Peter Dean got another 50, this time with 67, and Dwayne 29n.o. saw us home with 4 balls to spare and back up the top of the table.

Oh if only every week was a Bank Holiday.

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 24th May 2004

A mixed bag of results this week, some happy captains found in the clubhouse Saturday evening and some with long faces.

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Harvel away by 92 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 246-8 in 50 overs, Holmesdale 154 all out
Another good result for the 1's with 40 points from the last 2 games and sitting proudly at the top of the league. Rawlo 70, Handsy 64 and Mel 58 all getting runs with Dwayne scoring a quick 23 followed by 5-21 (certainly got his money's worth).

Blackheath 2nd XI drew with Beckenham at home [Kent league].
Blackheath 188-5 in 50 overs, Beckenham 137-9 in 50 overs
First points for the 2's in the Premier league with a convincing winning draw against Beckenham. Nosher 41, back doing what he does best, John O 45n.o. and Hutchy 27 providing the runs. Then I, your corresponent managed to grab 6-24 off 14 before Beckenham shut up shop.

Blackheath 3rd XI lost to Brockleians at home by 3 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 179-8 from 46 overs, Brockleians 180-7
A tight game for the 3's with Peter Dean 47 and Dee Bhadri 42 getting runs. Nick Courtney 27 solid contribution opening the innings. Rest of the batting sadly failed to capitalise on a good start. Kam 3-36, Tom 2-46 and Chris Stephens 2-51 shared it around with the ball.

Blackheath 3A XI lost to Bickley Park away by 54 runs [South Thames].
Bickley Park 138-9 off 48, Blackheath 85 all out
Redders 6-54 starred with the ball (but where was he at 5.30pm?) with only Dave Farnell 41 really getting going.

Blackheath 4th XI lost to Natwest by 4 wickets [Kent league].
Blackheath 131all out, Natwest 132-6
Sadly not enough runs for the 4's cost them. Syed 25 and Govinda 20n.o. help get a total to defend and although Saad and Laron kept it tight at both ends with five wickets between but they just didn't have enough at the end.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI lost to Hastings away by 35 runs [National Knockout].
Hastings 333-6, Blackheath 298-8.
After losing the toss Hastings managed to amass 333 in their 45 overs with Brasso having some joy finishing with 4-56. Sadly even triple Nelson didn't help and we finished 35 short, Shep 75n.o., Swaddy 42, Deano 38, JT 30, Peter Dean 28, Handsy 25.

Blackheath 2nd Xl lost to Gold Leaf at home
Blackheath 169, Gold Leaf 172

Batting first the 2's posted a respectable 169, including an 80+ opening stand between Pygmy 58 and Wrighty 34, with Ruba hitting 48, including a six onto the bar roof.
Only 10 men in the field to start with caused a few problems but Dave 'the pimp daddy' Marston (don't ask me ask Wrighty!) took 3-37 and Yorkie 4 catches.

However, spanner had to go to Yorkie. even though he took four catches...in typical Sunday 2's style he dropped three, one of his celebration dances involved him spinning around on the ground, and he wore his full batting get up - including helmet - for about 5 overs waiting to bat before running himself out before facing a ball. Excellent!!

Blackheath 3rd Xl beat Old Elthamians by 8 wickets.
Old Elthamians 137 for 9 off 40 overs; Blackheath 138 for 2
A Sunday 3rds, (how many teams do this club have?) captained by Redders with a 6 foot 5 New Zealander behind the sticks who can bowl a bit when he wants to! Good bowling from the colt selection alongside Ross with some twist, and some real speed from Laron the Saffa. Plus 3 run-outs - not your usual regular Sunday outfit this!!
According to the skipper; "The revelation was Greg Rickards, a softly spoken lad from down Sussex way. With the family looking on, he hit a great hundred to crush the oppo into iddy-biddy liddle Elthamian meatballs". Interesting!

Bit of a rush this week sorry due to work. However, until next week,

Woodsy

PS - Note to Gafa, as you'll see no trumpets on this page any more! (Just wait until you score a Sunday 100 vs Belvedere..Ompah - Ed)

Communication Bulletin - 17th May 2004

Well we've started, a nice sunny Saturday to get the league games underway and some good results for the club. Anyway on with the scores…

SATURDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Holmesdale away by 48 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 178-8 in 50 overs, Holmesdale 130 all out
Firey 49 and Mel 27 got off to a decent start with Dwayne 30n.o and Rupert 28n.o smashing it about at the end before 'seasoned campaigners' Rupert 3-28 and Omar 4-18 inflicted the damage.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Bexley at home 87 by runs [Kent league].
Bexley 192-2 in 50 overs, Blackheath 105 all out
A nil points Eurovision performance by the 2's. Some good fielding and bowling in the first half and although Hutchy 38 and Aussie Wilco 38 got us off to decent start we fell by the wayside. Less said about the last 25 overs the better!

Blackheath 3rd XI beat Betsham away by 47 runs [Kent league].
Blackheath 231-5 from 46 overs, Betsham 186 all out.
A good win for the 3's with run machine Peter Dean (90) and Nick Courtney (68) putting on a 168 run opening stand with Jason Windsor adding 32 n.o. Kam, 3-33 and Tom 2-33 got the wickets with Luffy taking a screamer in gully.

Blackheath 3A XI beat Orpington at home by 21 runs [South Thames].
Blackheath 121 all out, Orpington 100 all out
3A's off to winning ways. Dave Farnell 33, and Chris Stevens 5-27 ripped through the top order with Redders 3-12 mopping things up.

Blackheath 4th XI lost to Belvedere at home by 3 wickets [Friendly - Walk over in League].
Blackheath 191/9 off 45 overs, Belvedere got 194/7 off 40.1 overs
Mohammed Kamara scored an elegant 41, Simon Ward a swift 32, Asad Nasir a brutal 34. Rob Worthington, Paul Sharma and Simon bowled a tight line, but we were just lacking a couple of bowlers to knock off the Belvedere tail at the end.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI lost to Purley by 20 runs [Evening Standard cup].
Purley 217-7 all out, Blackheath 197 all out.
Rupert 2-15 as mean as ever and Firey 3-13 - is there anything this man can't do? Handsy with a classy 69, Bazza smashed it about for 44, and Omar 29 all contributed but left us just short at the end.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Red Dogs
See Wrighty's report below, what's the point of editing pure comedy!

"We were totally reamed by these blokes. Beat em last year, but this year no good at all. They batted first and made 180. Pope kept wicket really well. Crispy bowled like a champ 3-28. All the other bowlers got a wicket except for poor old Redders. He was gutted. (Note to Redders; there's no 'I' in team).

We batted like the rejects we are. Only shining lights were Ruba with 28, Pope 27 and Charlie with 36, which included a massive 6 that hit a car in the car park!!

Spanner went to me for losing my voice while we were fielding, requiring me to hand over to Redders...fielding like I only had one leg and half an arm...and making a duck. quality.

Right that's my lot. Hopefully next week will be another good one for the club and the sun will continue to shine." ~ Spanner Wright

Until next week,

Woodsy

Communication Bulletin - 11th May 2004

Finally after watching it rain constantly and all the league matches being called off some competitive cricket happened at the Rectory. Even better the club got off to winning ways, with the 1's on Sunday winning the first round of the Cockspur National Knock Out.

SUNDAY SCORECARD

Blackheath 1st XI beat Walthamstow by 2 runs [Cockspur Cup].
Blackheath 181-7 in 45 overs, Walthamstow 179 all out.
Jerms with a solid 72 and Swaddy smashed it about for 38 n.o. to set a decent total. Then Handsy with 4-28 helped win it with 2 balls remaining, which included some athletic keeping from sub-keeper Mel.

Hopefully next week the league games won't be washed out and I'll be able to give a full report. Until then fingers crossed on the weather and best of luck to everyone for the season ahead.

Woodsy

Due to changing working practices Paul Gafa will no longer be able to prepare his match reports and club summaries. Thank you for all the past efforts, they were very well received. In his place Richard Woods has offered his considerable talent to fill the void. A suitable title will evolve.

Cockspur London Floodlit 6s

Friday 6th August, 2004, saw the Annual London Floodlit 6-a-side competition at the Rectory Field, Blackheath, with each of the 3 BCC representatives, the Asian U-19s (inc. Barry Lee, Warren Lee, Hussnan Nadir, Junaid Ahmed and Abid 'The Pornstar' Ahmed), Kent U-23s (inc. Mark Calnan and Gareth Honor) and the hosts, BCC themselves (Peter Dean, Hadleigh Luff, Dwayne Petley, Rupert Staple, Lyndon Williams and Darryl Carter), quietly confident of progressing through the competition. Umpires for the day, Omar Khan (tournament co-ordinator) and Paul Frith (tournament adjudicator), who were later ably supported by Chris Swadkin, got the proceedings underway and as ever, the weather was fit for the occasion as the sun shone brightly at 11.00 when Blackheath CC, led by Peter Dean, took the field to face the Asian U-19s. BCC set the tone for the day with some explosive batting from Dwayne Petley and Daryll Carter, the former taking just the first six balls of the competition to reach 25. The pair led BCC to an impressive target of 68 which was just too much for the Asian U-19s, despite good efforts from Barry Lee and Alex Senn with the bat.

The 2nd game saw the CCC square up against the under-performers of recent years, the Kent U-23s. Kent batted first and, thanks to intelligent batting from James Lincoln and Damon Gariff, set a target of 75, which proved to be out of the reach of the Conference who struggled to 68, despite taking 22 off the first over from Surrey CCC 2nd XI star Phil Eaglestone.

The following game saw favourites BWIA face a very strong Radlett outfit. After failing to successfully leave SE3 with the cup in either of the past two years, the 'Smashers' from BWIA arrived with a large squad of pros and ex-pros who they were confident would be sufficient to be victorious this time around. They eased past Radlett by 25 runs with current Worcestershire CCC 20/20 star, David Taylor, proving particularly effective with the bat.

A convincing win by Kent U-23s followed thanks to excellent batting once more by James Lincoln, Damon Gariff and Mark Calnan, against this year's whipping boys Formby CC who were led by the brother of TNO/Club Sec/Calamity, Stuart Reading. A comfortable victory by Blackheath against Radlett ensued before the Asian U-19s faced BWIA knowing that defeat would almost certainly signal an early exit from the competition. Despite a valiant effort from the U-19s, BWIA came out on top, but not before Hussnan Nadir and Barry Lee showed excellent ability with the bat. CCC subsequently dealt with scouser's Formby, whose form in the Village on Thursday night was always destined to be more impressive than their form on the pitch on Friday.

Radlett saw off the Asian U-19s, booking their place in the much coveted 5/6th place play off, before BWIA faced Blackheath to establish who would avoid facing Kent U-23s in the semi-finals. BWIA were victorious and as such, after Formby claimed 5th place by defeating Radlett, they faced CCC in the 1st semi-final. Unsurprisingly, the well-supported BWIA strolled past CCC and Frank David and Co. vocally awaited the outcome of the 2nd semi-final between Blackheath and the Kent U-23s.

Kent won the toss and elected to bat. Thanks to more sensible batting by James Lincoln, well supported by Mark Calnan, Kent set a substantial target of 73. Despite good efforts from Hadleigh Luff and Dwayne Petley, the hosts fell 10 runs short of their target, setting up a showpiece final between BWIA and the Kent U-23s.

At this stage the light was diminishing and the players were quickly becoming dependent on the six floodlights surrounding the pitch. Kent U-23s again won the toss and again elected to bat. James Lincoln, who was later awarded Man of the Tournament for carrying his bat in each of Kent's four games, was once more the mainstay of the innings, and he was supported well by each of the Kent batsman. Kent reached a target of 85 which clearly had the favourites ruffled, and despite BWIA's excellent form, it was always going to be a tough target to overcome. Some disciplined bowling and fielding by the well drilled Kent outfit silenced the Smashers by restricting them to just 65. The presentation, conducted by tournament supremo Omar Khan, drew the competition to a fitting conclusion, with the Kent U-23s being crowned deserved winners of the 2004 Cockspur London Floodlit 6-a-side Competition. Commiserations must go to the valiant losing finalists BWIA, whom we look forward to welcoming back next year, stronger and hungrier than ever.

Special thanks must go to Cockspur, our generous sponsors for the day, who provided the winners with the ammunition for a fearsome weekend of excess and Berkmann Wine Cellars, (www.berkmann.co.uk) who supported the day as usual by providing excellent wines to compliment the outstanding lunch and tea provided for by the ever-present Aunties. Finally, once more the organisational abilities of Omar Khan, ably assisted by Paul Frith, must be acknowledged for arranging an ever-improving competition, which consistently raises the profile of Blackheath Cricket Club, and is fast becoming the premier 6-a-side competition in the area.
