Match Report
Blackheath v Blue Star (Home - sort of) - Sunday 4 September 2005
Blackheath (192 - 8) beat Blue Star 176 all out by 16 runs
A hard-working win for Blackheath after a less than ideal start.
There are few lovelier places to play cricket than the Catford Superdome which
is similarly anarchic to the New Orleans Superdome (the main differences being
that the former is dustier and the latter has better toilet facilities). Under
a sponsorship deal, the ground's sightscreens are provided by Stagecoach.
On a hot, humid day Wrighty won the toss and to the relief of team mates chose
to bat thus denying Nid his dream of a three wicket win. Despite an elegant
off-side stroke masterclass from Sasi (25), Blackheath stumbled to 60 for 5.
This season the side has frequently gone into games with a long batting line-up
without it necessarily firing. However, led by Yorkie (68), who passed 50 for
the third time this season, Blackheath were able to recover to post a competitive
total of 192 - 8. Yorkie, who took more blows than Bill Clinton early in his
innings, hit 12 fours in his innings which kept Blackheath in the game. He was
supported by Nid (30) in a sixth wicket partnership which added more than 50.
When Yorkie was out his good work was carried on by Nid and a fired up and dehydrated
Collo who made 44* at more than a run-a-ball. Having made Blue Star work hard,
Blackheath had posted a competitive total.
Monster and Turtle got the bowling off to a perfect start with tight opening
spells. Turtle removed both opening batsmen and Monster (0 - 19 off eight) was
his usual economic self. While test bowlers sign autographs on the boundary,
Monster chooses to do 'dot-to-dot' puzzles - the only problem being that when
he finishes them he's not got a picture of a tiger or a ship but a giant 'M'.
Never mind...
Blue Star stayed in the hunt throughout their innings despite requiring over
six an over after the tidy opening spells. Nid (3 - 46) removed three of the
middle order before going for air miles at the expense of a free-hitting number
seven. Wrighty (2 - 43), however, was to get the key wicket after Blue Star
had reached 157 - 6 when he bowled said big hitter with a ball which turned
and bounced. However, the game remained tight when Blue Star required 18 from
17 balls with three wickets in hand...
At this stage we saw the catch of the season. Collo, who bowled a tidy three
over spell at the death (1 - 14) saw Blue Star's number eight smite a stright
ball in the direction of mid-wicket. No worries as Wrighty was out on the midwicket
boundary for just such a stroke... but what's this? He's wandered in to no-man's
land...the ball is flying over his head but then Michael Jordan-like he jumps
into the air and takes a screaming one handed catch to his left in mid-air(rumours
of a Nike Air Wrighty trainer are unconfirmed). A distraught text message from
Andrew Strauss after the game read "Thx 4 taking my catch of ssn award
you bstrd".
Following that catch, Turtle returned to mop up the tail and finish with an
impressive 4 - 28 to complete a win by 16 runs. This was a hard-fought victory
although the writer is desperate to have a similarly close win batting second.
Please Wrighty you know what you have to do...
The Spanner went to Lavo for a litany of sins (according to a naked Barra).
Choosing which incident was the key one would be like picking Harold Shipman's
best murder :)
Man of the Match in a game of good performances went to Yorkie (it had to after
he hit a reverse sweep for four).
Communication Bulletin - 29th August 2005
As the league season is drawing to a close we're seeing more good results from the teams and some more Champions in the club. This week it's time to congratulate the 4s who have won the league, and also the 3s for gaining promotion. Both sides' league campaigns finished Saturday, but I'm sure they'll be down sinking a few beers on what will be the last league Saturday for the rest, and hopefully helping the 3As celebrate again!
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Hayes home [Kent league].
Hayes 176-9 off 50 overs, Blackheath 177-5 off 48 overs
A slightly more relaxed start to the day for the champions saw Hayes reach 176
with James 'Dick Turpin' Hands picking up 7-43 off 15. Getting to bat second
at the Rectum for the first time all season Rawlo got 30, Mel 20, Firey 32 and
Handsy 41n.o. to see us home. Still unbeaten and only 1 game left.
Blackheath 2nd XI losing draw against St Lawrence [Kent league].
St Lawrence 230-7 off 50 overs, Blackheath 217-8
Ross T and Swad bowled 30 overs of spin with Ross getting 3-66 and Swad 2-61.
Chasing Calners got 74, Nosher 22, Deano 40 and Swad 34 to leave the 2s short,
but three points next week will mathematically ensure playing Premier league
cricket next season.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Betsham 1st XI at home [Kent Regional
Cricket League Div 4 (West) - Div 1A].
Betsham 143-10 off 44.3 overs, Blackheath 144-5
After 2 weeks of frustrations with bad weather, the 3s were keen to get back
out on to the park to achieve promotion to the Kent League. Carlian Thomas,
on debut, bowled quick and straight to collect 3 wickets, Mike Tuohey bowled
an unplayable spell including 3 wickets and Saad Ussman and Chris Stevens also
got a few wickets between them to polish Betsham off for 143. The chase was
never in doubt, with Craig De Vaal scoring his ninth fifty for the season, in
a brilliant knock of 92 not out, to see the 3s home and ensure 2nd spot on the
league table along with promotion. Congratulations.
Blackheath 3A XI beat Bickley Park
Blackheath 196-6 off 48, Bickley 47 all out off 21.3 overs
"When you lose your top run scorer the night before your biggest game of
the season with a mysterious tropical illness, you worry that it may not be
your year. Cometh the hour, cometh the "pinch blocker" Jon Taylor
to the rescue, to ensure we had 11.
After much consultation with the team, reaching no conclusion, Skipper skillfully
lost the toss to avoid the blame later on. When asked to bat, Dave Farnell and
Pete Dean took on the early sledging, including the memorable shout of "we'd
be on 50 by now"!!! Deano hit an entertaining 29 and Skip bored the large(ish)
crowd for 63. Useful contributions from Steve Wilcox (17) and JT (27) were the
appetiser ahead of Clive's speedy 38 to give us a very competitive target of
196, and restrict Bickley to 2 bowling points.
Bickley got a fairly good start in reply, reaching 41-1 shortly after 10 overs.
The wheels were then blown off in style by Riv Monsell who finished off with
6-25 and the big wicket of the quick scoring Sri Lankan opener taken by Clive.
One by one, Bickley's middle order confidently swaggered to the crease like
Matt Hayden only to be sent packing cheaply, like Matt Hayden. Matt Prior polished
off the tail, right on the button with 3-3 including a wicket with his first
ball.
For a few days we thought we were champions but Gravesend's decision to renovate
cars and sniff around rather than play cricket a few times this season
means that all of their results are deleted and we still need 3 more points
next week. A bit of a farce but lets have another Championship celebration next
weekend. Up the club!!!"
Blackheath 4th XI beat Shooters Hill
Blackheath 236 all out off 45.3 overs, Shooters Hill 160 all out off 42.3 overs
Another league winning side at the club. Congratulations to the 4s who managed
a last game win in a local derby. Batting first and getting 236, thanks largely
to 31 from Syed Qasim, 80 from Mohammed Kamara and 28 from Ben Woodside. Then
Rob Worthington picked up 3-29, with 2 wickets each for Chris Collinson, Daryl
Copsey and Imran Khan saw the 4s celebrate winning the league in style.
Blackheath 4A XI lost to Hayes
Blackheath 67 a/o, Hayes 68-2
A weakened and depleted Blackheath team came unstuck at Perry Street. The batting
never really got going, despite the best efforts from Richard Hollis (19). Even
a skipper of the class of Bosworth would have trouble defending such a low total
and accordingly Hayes had no trouble scoring the runs, despite some fine bowling
from debutant Paresh Gondaziya, with 3-0-10-2. A poor result, but a good run
out.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath Sunday 1st XI beat Blackheath, Surrey
Blackheath 213-3, Surrey 67 a/o (35 overs match)
Heavy traffic and poor map reading from Imran Khan ensured a late start. Indeed
but for some adventurous off-road & dirt track routes, Blackheath would
never have found Blackheath ! As for the match, a fine 70 from Boswell, a magnificent
club maiden 50* for Syed Qasim and a 20 ball 40 for Alex "slogger"
Senn meant that the opposition needed 6 an over to win. Tight bowling meant
that would not happen.
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI beat Belvedere home
Belvedere 94 all out, Blackheath 95 for 4.
This much anticipated 'grudge' match turned out to be a real fizzer. Blackheath fielded a star studded line-up in preparation for a blistering assault with bat, ball and the odd expletive.
Belvedere won the toss and batted with Syril 2-16 and Boy Collinson 2-23 were tight. Lavo chipped in with 1-9.Monster 3 - 19 and Lambchops 1 - 21 finished it off in a miserly fashion. Nosher (51) and Yorke (15) opened the batting. Yorkie took 7 overs to get off the mark, and was jeered for it, but it doesn't matter when you've got Nosher at the other end spanking it all over the place. Unfortunately Deano with a duck precipitated a mini collapse, but Ruba (14no) and Lavo (7no) saw us home safely.
The Spanner went to Deano for his second ball duck. When asking the skipper "permission to smash it", the reply of "yes" usually doesn't mean hitting it down mid wicket's throat. Oh well. Deano was true to the tradition and wore the spanner all night long at the crown afterwards. Man of the Match has got to go to Nosher for flaying the oppo's attack. - Oh how different it could have been Deano!
Right that's my lot, until next week.
Up the club,
Woodsy
Communication Bulletin - 22nd August 2005
After last week saw all our games rained off we had a bit better fortune this week - including the 1s winning the league - CHAMPIONS!
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Broadstairs away [Kent league].
Blackheath 190-7 off 50 overs, Broadstairs 148 all out off 40.1 overs
Before the game we knew a win would secure promotion and the league title, and
sure enough we got it. An impressive knock from Rawlo with 90n.o. plus Handsy
27 and Firey 34 got us to a decent total on a slightly unpredictable pitch.
Then Handsy 6-35 off 13.1 and myself 3-35 off 13 got the wickets.

Blackheath 2nd XI beat Beckenham [Kent league].
Beckenham 122 all out, Blackheath 123-2
A good bowling performance restricted Beckenham, with Chucker Jones back with
2 wickets, supported by Luke A 2-24 and impressive stuff from Ross Titmuss with
4-3 off 2! Then Hussnan 42n.o and Deano smashed 59 n.o. to see the second team
to a good win
Blackheath 3rd XI
It rained and they didn't play cricket for the second week running.
Blackheath 3A XI winning draw against Bromley
Blackheath 168-7, Bromley 133-7
The 3A's were struggling until "Magic" Clive Ogbimi smashed 31 not
out in an unbroken partnership with Weasel (22*). Everyone else got starts but
struggled on a difficult pitch, late addition Ben Wilko getting a stiff decision
on 22, the best of the starts. Then after a good start, Bromley were pegged back
by 3 wickets from Matt Prior, who also inflicted a broken cheekbone, and a brilliant
spell from Rob Morgan (4-40). Unfortunately we couldn't get past the stubborn
rear guard effort from Bromley but a good result against a decent side.
Blackheath 4th XI beat Gravesend RFC
Blackheath 80-4, Gravesend Rfc 77 ao (38 overs)
Firstly, thank you to Neil and everyone at Gravesend who worked hard to get
this game on, especially as he knew we were pushing hard to get to the top of
the table. Stand in skipper Steve Ainsworth, won the toss & as you do -
bowled. Rob Worthing inflicted the damage - 4 for 21, while Ben Woodside picked
up 3 for 21.Slap on the wrists to the bowlers given 15 wides, which was top
score of the innings. It took Blackheath 3 wickets to get the total, with the
winning run being hit by Rizwan Iqbal. A streaky 50 from Andrew Roy made up
the bulk of the runs. So, the 4's are top of the league, but just 5 points ahead
of Roan. Let's hope the rain does not get in the way of a proper finish.
By the way - Steve Ainsworth has scored 617 league runs at an average of 61 (3rd in club list) and Daryl Copsey leads the Club league wicket list with 37 at 9 runs each.
Blackheath 4A XI vs Tunbridge Wells
Rain & weather put paid to the game.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath Sunday 1st XI lost Gidea Park & Romford
Blackheath Sunday 1's 202 al (39.2 overs), GP & R CC 209 - 7 (40 overs)
A good day out in Essex again. Playing on a flat track with shortish long straight
boundaries and against batters who knew the deck well, Blackheath bowled well
and kept the total required to a modest 209. The opening pair Saad Usman (3-41)
and Fergus Ryan were effective, while Sunday debutant Wayne Ellis was positivley
frugal with 1-24. A great run out by Janaid on GP & R CC batter Churchill
(81) and a fantastic stumping by keeper Taylor halted any momentum in their
innings. The chase started well for 8 overs , but slowed to a grinding halt
by the 15th. A lesson in precision hitting from the half fit (but 110% committed)
Imran Khan bought 45 quick runs. Will May carried on the good work - pouncing
on anything short. At that stage we needed 7 an over. Will's 47 was the best
Sunday knock I have seen this year and bought the requiremnt to under five an
over the last 5 overs. With the light fading Will ran out of partners ~ leaving
him short of a deserved 50 and Blackheath 8 runs short of a victory.
Right that's my lot, until next week.
Up the club,
Woodsy
JT - Adds - The 1st XI have shown the way for the rest to follow. Great effort, now the idea is to go unbeaten for the year. This week the 3A play Bickley Park, effectively for the title in South Thames League ... The 4's play Shooter's Hill to secure the championship (and promotion)... and the 3's need just 2 points to confirm runners up place and a promtion slot.
Communication Bulletin - 1st August 2005
Results for the August 6th, 7th and Cricket Week
The last month of cricket is upon us, although with the ashes in full flow it
still feels like June ! This week is less edited than usual.
Scoreboard
Blackheath 1st XI 224 - 10
T Wells 1st XI 197 - 7
Blackheath winning draw
What do you call sixteen 4's, one 6, and 115 balls to make 134? Another good
afternoon for Simon Williams !! Willo has scored 3 50's & 2 100's century
of the season and Simon has scored 711 league runs. Still T Wells probably thought
it would be their day while we were languishing at 55-4 - never mind. The reply
was steady but never challenging. The problem was that we could not dislodge
some decent players. Woods 4-43 and Hands 3-29 did their best. A winning draw
is Ok, but never as good as the real thing.
Blackheath 2nd XI 221 - 9
T Wells 2nd XI 228 - 7
Blackheath loosing draw
Isn't the concept of the winning or loosing draw great ! You come within 8 runs
of winning but get no more points than a team who shut up shop from the 28 over
(think Hartley
every week). But there you go, until the chair of the
KCB can drag the rules of the league into the 19 century, what can we do. Blackheath
tried hard in the field - but provided too much buffet bowling. Bongo Brown
bowled 14 overs for 2 wickets and 49 runs. The run chase was reasonably well
measured. Luff (47), Anderson (48), Dean (41), Senn (33) all got going, but
could not follow through. 174 - 4, 182 - 5, 186 - 6, 190 -7 meant that there
was not enough powder to push hard for the win. The wicket at the Rectory in
August favours the batters these days, and therefore 228 is no longer a big
score. We need to remember that.
Blackheath 3rd XI
League Bye - The team remain in 2nd place
Blackheath 3A XI
Hartley Scuppers Club 3rd XI
It's Friday night, the skipper has put together a crack team - they are keen
and eager to travel to the country to play a game of cricket. Truth be known,
they are hoping to win the toss, so that they can bat and then roll out the
opposition - for 20 points and a quick return to the bar. So, back to Friday
night, 7pm and the skipper is tucking into his 5th pint of Kelham Island Mild
ale when he receives a call from Hartley. At that specific moment Hartley have
realised that they do not have 11 players. (How does that work - did the Hartley
captain tell the 5 players who were unsure to give him a call at 6,50 on Friday
night to give a definite yes or no ?). So, we have no game again as a team decide
to concede. We get 16 points, but it's a pain. So if you are reading this from
another club that we are due to play and think you may be struggling for a team
- call on Thursday afternoon. Frankly we'll bring 4 players down for you and
then we can still get a game.
Blackheath 4th XI 229-7 (46 overs)
Dartfordians 2nd XI 71 a/o (32 overs)
Blackheath win by 158 runs
A stand of 119 between Steve Ainsworth (85) and John Olufawo (65) was the basis of a solid score for Blackheath, backed up by some last minute hitting from Imran Khan and Darryl Copsey. Rob Worthington then took a wicket with the first ball of the oppo's innings; new boy Matt Prior and Chris Collinson did the rest
Blackheath 4A XI 161 a/o
Catford & Cyphers 4th XI 162 - 5
Blackheath lost by 5 wickets.
Good effort from a young Blackheath side. We slightly under clubbed it at selection
meaning that Vic was deprived a little fire power. Any way a good opening 60
partnership from - 15yr old Omar Iqbal 29 & 39 yr old Elrik Newby 25 - was
never really build upon, despite a good 41 from team Ausie Andrew Roy. The highlight
of the bowling was a return to Blackheath colours for Shirley Valentine - 2
overs, nought for 19.
Sunday Scoreboard
Blackheath Sunday 1st XI
T Wells Sunday 1st XI
We showed some class and scratched it on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI
Mystery XI
Skipper Lambchops got a cracking fixture from the exchange. The opposition batting,
while the 2's were bowling. In reply the Sunday 2's chased hard, while the opposition
did their best to limit the number of runs. In the end the spanner went to Ruba.
Cricket Week Scoreboard
Some have been hailing this "the best cricket week in living memory". Certainly the weather was kind to us and the results went our way. It will be improved on next year with more social support after the matches. The bar needs your help. Book the holiday now for 2006 - July 31st through August 4th. No ashes next year, time to save up, time to plan other trips. No excuses now.
Monday
Blackheath X1 205 - 8
OD Cuaco XI 202 - 7
What a match. It had runs, wickets, catches and great fielding. A decent knock
by Jon Taylor (42) started the innings well, added to be a grinding 50 from
Hussnan Nadir. In reply a good 70 from Dave Golby (ed - does he ever fail at
the Rectory) meant that OD Cuaco were always in the chase. An inspired change
in bowling changed the match. Spinner Ross Titmuss tied up one end with round
the wicket leg spin and Cripsy bowled straight and fast from the stand end.
Needing 3 to win off the last bowl, Crisp bowled a dot.
Tuesday
Blackheath XI
Old Victorians XI
The perfect day for a Blackheath to take on the Old Victorians
Thursday team. As the opposition began to arrive, it seemed they would live
up to both parts of their team name, with an average age possibly 20 years above
that of the Blackheath side, an oldest team member of 81 years, and a WG Grace
lookalike in the extraordinary Bernie Bishop - more of him later.
Inserted after losing the toss and playing a timed game, the onus was on Blackheath
to make a positive start and Junaid Ahmed and Warren Lee got us going with a
half-century stand in quick time, mostly compiled against the lively pace of
the Vic's two twentysomething opening bowlers.
Aside from a few lovely leg-side boundaries from both batsmen the highlight
of the opening stand was provided when the youthful opening bowler and the octogenarian
fielder chased a ball towards the boundary. The former, perhaps more concerned
at being beaten to the ball than saving the boundary, put in an impressive sliding
save, but unfortunately went right through his team mate in the process. Fortunately
no harm was done even though such a tackle in football would have earned a three-match
ban!
A change of bowlers saw the more experienced spinners impose some control with
a double-breakthrough to Bernie Bishop, with big-turning leg-breaks and the
odd straight, quicker ball. Blackheath continued to score freely with Warren
Lee really opening up to record his maiden century, and anyone watching will
know it is the first of many to come. He was eventually out for 110 off 79 balls
and with good contributions from Carson Brooks, Andrew Roy and Ben Laverton,
Blackheath progressed past 200. Bernie Bishop stuck at his task for the Vics
and returned an admirable 5-wicket haul. Martin Longstaff and Simon Hudd then
flogged 40 off the last three overs to allow the home team to declare on 251-6
after 36 overs.
After tea Blackheath had 75 minutes plus 20 overs to take 11 wickets. Chris
Collinson got us off to a great start with a wicket in the first over. Warren's
cousin Jude showed how much cricketing talent there is the family with a lively
5 overs returning 1-16, and Hudd plus Blackheath debutant Richard Morris made
further inroads into the middle order. Stubborn batting from the Vics meant
time was running out while the home side fielded eagerly and switched round
the bowling regularly in an attempt to earn wickets. Warren Lee kept the game
alive until the last with four good wickets (mostly bowling off-breaks, though
anyone reading the scorecard who notices 'Stumped Pope Bowled W.Lee' is welcome
to hold the home wicket-keeper in the sort of esteem normally reserved for the
likes of the Glamorgan keeper who got a stumping off Waqar Younis one summer).
The last over began with the home side needing three wickets and though Warren
finally had the Vics opener for a valiant 64 off the second ball, Bishop returned
to haunt Blackheath again by seeing out the remainder of the over as the away
side closed on 154-9 after 44 overs. A winning draw then for the home side,
a big thanks to everyone who played and to the Old Victorians for a competitive
but friendly game.
After returning 4-18 to add to his 110, Warren Lee made the man-of-the-match
decision easy. There was no spanner as it was not an official Sunday 2s game.
Had there been one, it would have gone to Richard Morris for wearing golf shoes
(sledge of the day from oppo umpire as Morris was walking back to bowl: "what's
your handicap?") or the oppo bowler for the sliding tackle on a team-mate
sixty years his elder.
Wednesday
Blackheath XI 135 & 210
Rest of the World 153 & 193
"A stroll in the park" or "running all round the ground chasing
the ball" - depends on who you ask. The selectors were probably a bit generous
to the rest of the world and were made to pay. Warren Lee bowled a great line
and length with seemingly only Jon Taylor able to hit him all round the ground.
Then he batted well.
Thursday
Blackheath XI 245
Sydenhurst Ramblers 189
A late start due to the vagries of the London transport network.
But Warren batted well again, and was well supported by skipper Chris Willets.
With a decent total on the board the Blackheath bowled a decent line and length
to wrap up the game

Communication Bulletin - 1st August 2005
A typical British summer's day saw rain effect most games, although those that did finish were in the clubs favour.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI incomplete against Harvel home [Kent league].
Blackheath 141 all out off 47.1 overs, Harvel 92-8 off 42 overs
Sadly the 1s couldn't quite finish the match, although with other promotion
chasers also rained off it didn't harm their position at the top. Getting 141
mainly thanks to 48 from Largey the 1s had it all to do in the field. But good
opening spells from Dragon and Slade saw them take command before the rain came
down.
Blackheath 2nd XI abandoned against Bromley away [Kent league].
5 overs, it rained, they came off and never went back on.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Shooters Hill 1st XI (Home) by 1
wicket - Kent League Div 4 ~ 1A (West)
Shooters Hill 164 all out, Blackheath 165-9
Blackheath stepped back onto the winners podium after a hard-fought chase. Shooters
Hill were restricted to 164 with some good, tight bowling, espcially from Riv
and Tommy G. Craig De Vaal again scored well, reaching 84, before Brasso hit
the winning runs after a couple of late scares made the finish exciting.
Blackheath 3A XI incomplete against Blackheath Wanderers
Blackheath 251-5 declared in 45 overs, Blackheath Wanderers 29-7 in 14 overs
Shak Qureshi 106 and Steve Nikolovski 88 continued their fine seasons to repair
the damage of an early wobble. Then Clive 4-16 - who else - and new boy Matt
Prior 2-11 with the wickets. Bit disappointing not to get a much deserved 20
points, but title rivals were also left watching it rain with a lot less bonus
points than the 3As.
Blackheath 4th XI beat Beckenham & Sydenham by 8 wickets
Beckenham & Sydenham 4th XI 116a/o (31.4 overs) Blackheath 4th XI 119-2
(24.1 overs)
Blackheath torpedoed the Beckenham navy without a trace. Battleships Khan (3-13)
and Copsey (4-28) did the major damage, aided by good catching by patrolling
vessels in the outfield, especially Dave Norrie. Cruisers Mo Kamera (49*) and
Fergus Ryan then saw the Blackheath fleet home.
Blackheath 4A XI Opposition cried off late Thursday - thank you !!
Sunday Scoreboard
Blackheath Sunday 1st XI abandoned Bexley
No match report
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI beat Godstone by 7 wickets
Blackheath 2nd XI 70-3, Godstone 69 all out
A comprehensive victory for the Sunday 2's. Full match report on Simon Says.
Right that's my lot, until next week.

CRICKET WEEK - 1st to 5th AUGUST 2005
Communication Bulletin - 18th July 2005
On a fantastic weekend for cricket, those teams challenging for the league titles did there credentials no harm with good wins. Sadly though, in front of a big crowd, the 1s couldn't get through their last 16 Evening Standard match though. Here are the scores
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Canterbury home [Kent league].
Blackheath 237-9 off 50 overs, Canterbury 185 all out off 43.2 overs
Yet another 20 points. Batting first we were in some trouble until an invaluable
partnership between Largey and Wazza, with Largey getting a superb 117 and Wazza
32. Canterbury wickets then fell quickly with Handsy picking up another 5 wicket
haul, 5-70 off 15, and Dragon 2-40.

Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Gore Court away [Kent league].
Blackheath 192 all out off 49.4 overs, Gore Court 195-5 off 48.4 overs
For once the batting let the 2s down with Alex Senn being the pick with a fine
62, supported by Nosher 30, Calners 25 and Willo 20. Luke A picked up 3-52 with
the ball, but sadly to no avail.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Roan & Lambethans1st XI (Away)
by 112 runs - Kent League Div 4 ~ 1A (West)
Blackheath 219-5, Roan & Lambethans 107 all out
This win was set up by good partnerships, strong batting and accurate bowling.
Against a solid bowling attack, Craig De Vaal continued his great form with
89 runs. Other contributors included Ben Wilko with 35 and mid-20s from Junaid,
John O and Vince German. Roan never looked likely to threaten with Riv Monsell
bowling deadly straight again to take 6/10. A great win and a good platform
for the top of the table clash next weekend.
Blackheath 3A Xl beat Orpington by 200 runs
Blackheath 244-4 off 48 overs, Orpington 44 all out off 25.5 overs
Shaq Qureshi smashed 93 very quickly on debut, Hussnan grafted 53 not out and
the skipper got 44. In reply Orpington were bowled out cheaply with Clive getting
4-11, Rob Morgan 3-15 blew them away, and Rupi 2-3 put himself on a hat trick
for next week.
Blackheath 4th XI beat Roan & Lambethans 2nd XI by
59 runs
Blackheath 218-6 off 46 overs, Roan & Lambethans 157 all out off 35.5 overs
The 4ths saw off one of their title rivals with a bit to spare. Al Dunning 52,
and Ben Woodside 44 put on a crucial 92 runs. Steve Ainsworth and Mo Kamara
also got 30-odd to ensure the total passed 200. New boy Carlian Thomas steamed
in to take a couple of vital wickets, Everyone else got wickets too, aided by
some good catching.
Blackheath 4A X1 win v Devonshire CC away (non-league match).
Devonshire 194 for 9 (40 overs). Blackheath 195 for 2.
Blackheath bowled and fielded diligently to restrict the home side to just 194
on a lightning outfield, Richard Hollis taking 3 and stand-in skipper Joe Cannon
taking 2-21. Excellent opening spells by Wayne Ellis and Mohammed Nazar Bashir
set the tone, and all the bowlers were excellently supported by some sprightly
fielding on a blazing hot day. After losing two early wickets Joe Cannon (29*)
was completely overshadowed by his partner in an unbeaten stand of 154, Dave
Norrie blasting an awesome 117* off no more than 50 deliveries.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI lost to Radlett home [Evening Standard].
Blackheath 234-7 off 50 overs, Radlett 237-7 off 41.4 overs
Sadly the 1s couldn't progress to the quarter finals of the Evening Standard
in what proved to be a good game down at the Rectum. Batting first, and getting
a good total, thanks to great knocks from Ben H and Largey who both made 60
odd. Sadly it didn't prove enough, even though they managed to pull Radlett
back for a good finish, with Woodsy and Handsy getting 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Big thank you to all those that came down to cheer us on, it helped make for
a fantastic cup game atmosphere.

The crowds return to The Rectory for Cup Cricket
Right that's my lot, until next week.

Communication Bulletin - 11th July 2005
Largely a good set of results this week, certainly better than some of the singing heard later in evening at the Rectum! Anyway, here are the scores
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Holmesdale away [Kent league].
Blackheath 249-6 off 50 overs, Holmesdale 98 all out off 32.3 overs
Another 20 points after a comprehensive win for the 1s. Batting first on a difficult
wicket the 1s set a good total, largely thanks to 38 from Mel, 51 from Ben H
and a fantastic 94 n.o. from Largey. A devastating opening spell from Slade
and Dragon then put the Heath in total control with Slade picking up 3-21 off
10 and Dragon 3-42 off his 10.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Dartford home [Kent league].
Blackheath 204-7 off 50 overs, Dartford 207-2 off 33.5 overs
Despite most batsmen getting runs with Nosher 45, Calners 21, 23 from Luke,
30.n.o. from Omar, 29 from Hussnan and Swaddy 25n.o the total didn't prove enough
and Dartford knocked the runs off quickly, without too many problems.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Hayes 3rd XI (Away) by 7 wickets
- Kent League Div 4 ~ 1A (West)
Hayes 100 all out, Blackheath 101-3
An important win at the toss of the coin set up this comprehensive victory.
Sent in, Hayes could manage only 100 runs on a wet one, whilst consistently
losing wickets - Ant Jones taking 3, with 2 wickets each to Brasso, Euan the
Flying Scotsman and Fergus Ryan on debut. In reply, the 'Heath needed only 26
overs to knock of the runs 3 wickets down. The win sets the team up for the
critical 2 week period starting next week.
Blackheath 3A Xl winning draw against Hartley
Blackheath 247-6 declared in 46 overs, Hartley 153-9 off 50
After declaring with a big total, thanks to Steve Nikolovski smashing 142, and
Dave chipping in with 34 Hartley could only block the game out with Rob Morgan
and Clive both taking 3 wickets.
Blackheath 4th XI winning draw v NatWest away (Friendly
match).
Blackheath 159 all out. NatWest 104 for 5
Wickets fell regularly for Blackheath on a difficult pitch, before Ben Woodside
(44) and Carlian Thomas (32) steadied the ship. Good bowling from Thomas with
3 for 34 and flawless fielding reduced NatWest to 70 for 5, before they decided
to drop anchor for the last 20 overs, crawling to 104 for 5, with one batsman
surely setting a new record for number of play-and-misses in an innings. The
4s have next week got a top of the table clash with Old Roans.
Blackheath 4A Xl beat Catford & Cyphers
Blackheath 238 for 8, Catford 140 for 7
Another week, another win for skipper Vic Kotecha. Able batting from Mohamad
Bashir (70), Richard Hollis (36) and Omar Iqbal (27) meant a healthy total to
bowl at. Wickets fell regularly, with Wayne Ellis and Raj Lakhani colleting
2 a piece while Dobdon, Iqbal and Votecha kept the breaks on. Never near the
total, a comfortable win.
Sunday Scorecard
Sunday 1st XI beat OE/ Granby - Sunday League
Blackheath 1st XI 289 from 40 overs, OE / Granby 279 from 40 overs.
A high scoring affair on a decent batting track. A 120 sparkling runs from Steve
Ainsworth was the base of this big total. Aided by Greg Rickards (40), Chris
Willets (30) and Imran Khan (29) Blackheath piled on the pressure. OE / Granby
responded well (although managed to whinge about umpires etc) to make a tight
match. Petley (84) and Hole (40) batted well, although in the end falling 10
runs short. Pick of the Blackheath bowlers ? Euan Stuart with 5-1-37-0, achieved
after 3 hours sleep. Taking a week off this weekend to recover.
Sunday 2nd XI lost to Lamborby Park
Blackheath 2nd 89 ao, Lamborby Park 118-6
To Duck Sh*t Park once more for a game of cricket. The bowlers did a reasonable
job in restricting the opposition to a low total. James Tootal bowled 8 overs,
2 for 19, Simon Wright 1 over for 10 runs - whoops. Problem was that the Blackheath
batters did not respond, with just Jamie Yorke (25) providing resistance. (Full
report on Simon Says)

Communication Bulletin - 4th July 2005
At the half way point of the season most of our sides are in a good position to try and finish with some silverware. Anyway this week has seen some interesting results and plenty of runs for most teams, including another win in the Evening Standard cup for the 1s, which sees us into the last 16.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Hayes away [Kent league].
Hayes 137 all out off 48.5 overs, Blackheath 139-7 off 39.3 overs
A game the 1s should have won easily ended up in a bit of a challenge. After
a good performance bowling Hayes out for 137, with Slade picking up 3-34, Dragon
taking a trip down memory lane to bowl 15 overs down the hill at Hayes to finish
with 3-38 and the author getting 3-30 off 15. Chasing a small total proved difficult
as wickets fell, but Largey getting a quick 36 helped us towards the total and
another win.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to St Lawrence home [Kent league].
Blackheath 258-6 dec off 46 overs, St Lawrence 259-8 off 53.5 overs
Runs again proved easy to come by for the 2s, with Watty able to declare at
46 overs after Nosher smashed the St Lawrence bowling attack to all parts to
get 94, Dave Farnell 84 - putting on 176 for first wicket - with Deano getting
a quick 34. After having St Lawrence 75 for 5 at drinks, with debutant Riv Monsel
getting three wickets, it all seemed rosy. Sadly mistakes cost dearly and the
2s ended up losing with 1 ball to spare having been in a fantastic position.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Beckenham & Sydenham 3rd XI
by 168 runs (Home) - Kent League Div 4 ~ 1A (West)
Blackheath 267-3 Beckenham & Sydenham 99 all out
A one-sided contest that Blackheath won easily. Sent in to bat, an opening stand
of 144 set the stage for a big score, with Criag De Vaal making another great
knock (88). Other notable performances with the bat were Courts (86no) and Clive
Ogbimi - on debut - with 56 in quick time. Brasso starred with the ball again,
picking up 4 wickets, with 2 wickets each for Rosco, Tommy G and Courts.
Blackheath 3A Xl
No league game
Blackheath 4th Xl beat to Old Brocklieans 2nd XI by 165
runs
Blackheath 237-3 overs (46 overs)Old Brocklieans 2nd XI 72 a/o (19.2 overs)
Steve Ainsworth (93) and Al Dunning (53) put on 155 for the first wicket. Mo
Kamera chipped in with a quick 37. Wickets and catches all round against an
Old Brocklieans team, who looked like their heart wasn't in it. Sterner tests
will follow for the 4th XI, with the next league match being against leaders
Old Roans.
Blackheath 4A XI bt Horton Kirby 2nd XI by 3 wickets
Blackheath 4A 176-7 from 39.5, Horton Kirby 175 ao from 40 overs.
Another week, another win for the 4A, albeit a tight one, with just one ball
to spare. Debutant Mohammed Manzar Bashi was the pick of the bowling with 3
wickets, although there should be mention of Vic Kotecha excellent field settings.
The batting was led again by Raj Lakhani with a flawless 65. The winning runs
were hit by Luke Dobson who ended not out with 18 important runs.
Blackheath Extra XI lost to Peckham Rye 1stXI by 6 wickets
Blackheath Extra XI 123 ao, Pecham Rye 123-4
The 3A XI had no league game on Saturday as Gravesend probably felt they had
taken enough of a beating the week before and threw in the towel. (ed - But
thankfully on a Thursday evening & wish you well in getting back to proper
strength as you're needed in the league) An Extra XI was selected with some
3A players and also a chance for some new players to have a run out. Unfotunately
a couple of new boys decided not to turn up !! - and an injuiry on the field
of play resulted in 8 players. Good batting from Weasel Williams (60) and 20's
from Rob Morgan and Alistair Stirat meant 123 on the board - which was never
enough with so few fielders to defend.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat South Woodford home (Evening Standard cup)
Blackheath 180 all out in 48 overs, South Woodford 115 all out
Batting first and setting a total with Rawlo getting 83 and Mel 26. The 1s then
bowled tightly having South Woodford 90-9 with Dragon and Slade bowling well
and picking up 3 and 2 wickets respectively - Dragons first 8 overs only conceded
a wide - and Wazza also picked up 3 wickets. Next up we've got Radlett at home
in the last 16.
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI bt John Fisher
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI 202-4 dec, John Fisher 136-7
Jamie Yorke (56), Simon Wright (41), TV Pope (26), Spanner Ruba (19) & Simon
Hudd (19) meant a decent score with few wickets. The Sunday 2's batting as they
can and should every week. Chris Collinson always get 3 for on Sunday - and
did again. Fisher blocked it. Simon Hudd was spanner for pale blue shirt - Ruba
relieved.

Communication Bulletin - 28th June 2005
Here with the results from the action this week, which saw some comprehensive wins for the teams.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Broadstairs home [Kent league].
Blackheath 223-6 off 50 overs, Broadstairs 129 all out off 44.2 overs
Another good win for the 1s, this week against the third placed team. Batting
first and setting a good total, largely thanks to an invaluable partnership
between Mel 53 and Ben H 48, followed by a quick-fire 44 from Willo and a mammoth
55 extras. Despite a good start, the Heath soon pegged them back with the author
getting 5-22 off 15, Handsy 2-12 off 10, while Slade, 2-38, finished off the
tail.
Blackheath 2nd XI beat Beckenham away [Kent league].
Blackheath 267-7 off 50 overs, Beckenham 175 all out off 42.2 overs
With Beckenham having only 10 men the 2s racked up a big total, helped by Luke
Anderson's 85n.o., Deano smashing 67, Chris Willets 27 and Nosher 21. Then Watty
with 3-44, Bongo Brown 2-22 and Swaddy 2-47 saw the 2s to another win.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Betsham 1st XI (Away) - Kent League
Div 4 ~ 1A (West)
Betsham 121all out, Blackheath 122 - 4 in 24 overs
Another 20 points for the 3rds after convincingly chasing a modest total. Losing
the toss, Blackheath fought well in the field and took wickets consistently
to bowl Betsham out for 121 - Brasso took 4 wickets on debut, with Mike Tuohey
taking 3. A 100 run opening stand between the Devil 67 and Courts 25 put the
result beyond doubt, although losing 4/0 on 100 was not in the plan! The Hill
(Chuter) and Rosco steadied it to get us over the line after only 24 overs.
Blackheath 3A Xl beat Gravesend
Blackheath 266-5 declared in 46 overs, Gravesend 102 all out in 33.1 overs
Yet another win for the 4As. More runs from captain Farnell with 64, Euan Stuart
64 not out, Ben Wilko 36. Then Weasel 4-19, Clive 3-24, Rupi 2-15 did the damage
with the ball.
Blackheath 4th Xl lost to Centymca 2nd Xl by 4 wickets
Blackheath 4th XI 109 all out (39.3 overs), Centymca 2nd XI 113-6 (28.2 overs)
A shocking batting performance from the 4s saw them collapsing from 60-1 to
109a/o. Only Ben Woodside (20) and Al Dunning (30) looked settled. The bowling
was excellent (Copsey took 4 wickets again) but the total was not high enough.
Blackheath 4A Xl no opposition
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI lost to Fives and Heronians away
Blackheath 1st Xl 223-4 off 40, Fives and Heronians 227-7 off 30.2
A game full of runs saw the 1s lose despite Hussnan 74, Nosher 71 not out and
Luke Anderson getting his 2nd 50 of the weekend with 53. Bowling wise it was
carnage with Luke 2-27 and Huss 2-56 the only ones having any luck.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to A.C.C home by 25 runs
Blackheath 2nd XI, A.C.C
Another frustrating defeat by a small margin. After Blackheath bowled tightly
for 31 overs but conceded 83 runs off the last nine to be left with a few too
many to chase. However, a long batting line up meant the target should not have
been beyond them. Monster, bowled eight overs for just 18 runs and is consistently
Blackheath's most economical bowler this season. Nid took 2 - 21 off six. Tooter
put in his usual big effort in the field taking a good boundary catch and wearing
out his pedometer as he sought to cover every blade of grass on the Rectory
Field.
In response Fergus played a tremendous innings of 83 in which only a handful
of shots, be they attacking or defensive, failed to come off the middle of the
bat. With Collo's support, Fergus almost got Blackheath into a winning position
- 59 were needed off the last nine when he was out leaving Blackheath 137 -
7. Collo (14) threatened to bat for 1000 years but was sadly out after 59 minutes
of sensible cricket to the next ball, leaving Blackheath 137 - 8 but in the
end Blackheath were bowled out with two overs to spare leaving the foul-mouthed
Nid stranded.
Right that's my lot, until next week.

Communication Bulletin - 20nd June 2005
Here with the results from the action this week, which included a top of the table clash for the 1s, on what proved to be a ridiculously hot weekend.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Lordswood
Lordswoods 216 all out in 49.4 overs, Blackheath 217-4 off 44.1 overs
A good win against the second placed team keeps the 1s at the top of the table.
On a hot day, and bowling, the 1s kept Lordswood down to a competitive total,
with Handsy picking up 5-62 off 14 (and nearly dying in the process). Then some
fantanstic batting saw us home in relative ease, with Mel 34, Firey 62n.o and
Willo smashing 75.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Lordswood
Blackheath 220 all out off 49.3 overs lost to Lordswood 221-5 off 49.1 overs
Despite setting a good total with Nosher 60, Chris Willets 34, Luke Anderson
44 and Swaddy 22 all getting runs the total wasn't quite enough. Only Watty
2-41 and Swaddy 2-38 had any real success with the ball.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Gravesend RFC 1st XI
Blackheath 199/6, Gravesend RFC 65 all out
A good return to the winners' circle with a convincing performance against a
good side. Blackheath batted well against a strong attack, putting together
some solid partnerships. Craig De Vaal again batted superbly, making 76 before
getting out unluckily, and Michael Tuohey batted well late in the innings to
finish with 40 no. On debut, Riv Monsell bowled with good accuracy and pace
to take 6/11 from 9 overs in a ruthless Blackheath performance in the field.
Nick Chuter's fielding was also of a particularly high standard.
Blackheath 3A Xl
Bye weekend
Blackheath 4th Xl beat Old Dartfordians 2nd Xl by 6 wickets
Old Dartfordians 99 a/o off 31 overs, Blackheath 101-4 off 20.5 overs
Some stunning close catching - six catches beind the wicket - Blackheath restricted
the oppo to a meagre 99 all out on a lively Sam Montague pitch. After some early
wobbles, Steve Ainsworth and Ben Woodside saw the 4s home.
Blackheath 4A Xl beat Caribbean Mix by 2 Wickets
Blackheath 4A 202 for 8, Caribbean Mix 201
Last year the 3A traveled to the "Bumpy Oval" and came back with injuries
a plenty. This year led by Vic Kotecha, the result was the same, but with less
broken bones ! Kapil Patel bowled his left arm seam collecting 4 wickets for
27, while Rob Morgan, Andrew Roy & Shakaib Quershi supported. The target
was chased down by Shaq (53) and various 20's. Neeeding 9 off 2 overs the win
was never in doubt.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Old Emanuel away [Evening Standard].
Blackheath 299-7, Old Emanuel 97 all out
A comprehensive win in the second round of the cup sees Blackheath through to
the next round.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Holmesdale 1st XI
Holmedale 215 for 6, Blackheath 185 ao.
With the 1's in the cup the 2's stepped up for their planned fixture, although
there had been some talk that the opposition would be more developmental. Anyway
an overseas and 3 Saturday first, and 4 second teamers, plus one big 15 year
old does not quite justify that label ! Anyway it's about time the 2's started
challenging themselves. They fell 30 runs short, with great batting from FT
man Fergus Ryan (65) and contributions from various players with interesting
nicknames. That had followed good bowling from Monster and Ruba as well as the
Nid. Ruba was the spanner (ed - how many more times can he get to win this)
and FT man of the match.
Right that's my lot, until next week.

Here with the results from the action this week, including some big scores.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI tied with Tunbridge Wells home [Kent league].
Blackheath 185 all out off 49.4 overs, Tunbridge Wells 185-8 off 50 overs
Well it certainly made good watching, and somehow the 1s fought back to get
a share of the points. Batting first and setting a modest score, with Chris
Willets 56, Willo 34 and a late cameo of 27 from Shep getting us to a total.
However some good bowling from Kiwi Ben and Handsy, both getting 3-56 off 15,
made life difficult for T Wells.
Blackheath 2nd XI beat Tunbridge Wells away [Kent league].
Blackheath 235-7 off 50 overs, Tunbridge Wells 203 all out off 49.1 overs
Good starts from Nosher, Deano and Anderson all getting 20's and a whirlwind
43 from John O and 61 from Omar got the 2s to a good total. Good bowling from
Brown with 3-51 and Swaddy 4-49 off 15 saw the 2s home in the last over.
Blackheath 3rd XI lost to Bexley Park 1st XI (Away) - Kent
League Div 4 ~ 1A (West)
Blackheath 135 all out, Bexley Park 139-7
Put into bat, Blackheath lost wickets at consistent intervals and could only
last 30 overs before being bowled out for 135. De Vaal batted well for 47; Naidoo
(27) and Norrie (20) were the only other players to make 5 runs or more. While
the team defended with spirit, it was always going to be tough defending 135
in 60 overs. Tuohey was the pick of the bowlers taking another 5 wicket haul.
Blackheath 3A Xl beat OD Cuaco by 148 runs - South Thames League Div
1
Blackheath 253-3, OD Cuaco 105 all out
A comprehensive win for the 3As including a jug avoiding 99 from Dave F and
82 from Jim Crutcher in a 188 first wicket stand, with Wilco 32n.o and Vince
German 27n.o. giving it some fresh legs towards the end. Then Clive with 5-25
up the hill and 2 wickets apiece from Rupi and Crispy saw them home early to
catch the end of the 1s game and give some vocal support.
Blackheath 4th Xl beat Centymca 2nd Xl - Kent League Div
4 ~ 2A (West)
Blackheath 300-5, Centymca 192-5
A mamouth total for the 4s set them on their way, with Steve Ainsworth 92, Al
Dunning 39, Mark Chadwick 42, Asad Nasir 44 and Ben Woodside 24 all contributing.
Then 2 wickets a piece from Joe Cannon and Daryl Copsey meant 300 was never
in sight.
Blackheath 4A XI beat Old Statisticians by 10 wickets
Blackheath 99 for 0, OS 98 all out
A comprehensive win for the 4A, completing a demolition job on the opposition
in double quick time. Ausy guest Rich Williamson took an immediate likely to
English conditions and bagged 4 wickets. While a low total can sometimes be
tricky to chase,
Shaq Quereshi 67 * and Raj Lakhani 26* stayed confident and reached the score
with no drama. Debutant Paul Ferguson gets a mention for 2 excellent catches.
Selectors note the new names getting runs and wickets. A solid win, by a strong
team - with plenty of new faces performing very well in Blackheath colours.
Sunday Scorecard
Blackheath Sunday 1st XI lost to Harvel - Dukes Development
League.
Blackheath 204-7 from 40 overs, Hartley 207-6 from 39.2 overs
A fine 62 from skipper Warren Lee could not hide the fact that 200 is not enough
in these 40 over matches. Despite some fine bowling and fielding Hartley were
always on the run rate. Needing 2 from the last over, the opposition came up
trumps with 4 balls to spare.
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI beat John Fisher by 37 runs
Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI 275 for 3, John Fisher 238 for 8
We won the toss and batted on a good batting track. Lambchops (32) and The
Pope (47) put on 88 for the first wicket, laying the foundation for
Baraccuda (68*) and Fergus (97....off 42 deliveries!!!) to go beserk.
Monster chipped in with a few at the end of the innings.
The Spanner went to Ruba for requesting a urine sample from Fergus as he
strode back to the pavillion.
Blackheath Women's U17 bt Hayes Dev XI
Blackheath 96 in 15 overs, Hayes 94
A hastily arranged fixture with Hayes, following a drop out by East Kent. The
pick of the Heath bowling was Katy Dennis with 3-0-6-1, and batters Hannah Putney
(22) and Sara Guenigault (22) who were both retired. It took 15 overs to get
the total ~ and more importantly the first win of the season .. actually
the first win ever !! Nets as always are on Wednesday at Sam Montague, and remember
if you want a net / match on Saturday let Sam Havering know as soon as possible
Right that's my lot, until next week.
Up the club,

Communication Bulletin - 7th June 2005
Here with the results from the action this week. Although it's
only June some of our teams are sitting proudly at the top of their league tables
so let's keep it up until September and then we can do some serious celebrating.
Learn from last year ~
A marathon not a sprint.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Harvel away by 10 wickets [Kent league].
Harvel 170 all out, Blackheath 173-0 off 32 overs
A comprehensive victory for the 1s. Bowling first on a good wicket a miserly
opening spell from Dragon made life difficult and Handsy picked up 5-49 off
15. Then Rawlo and Ben H set about the attack to see us home without loss, including
a fantastic 103n.o. from Rawlo and yet another 50 (53n.o.) from Ben.
Blackheath 2nd XI losing draw to Bromley home [Kent league].
Bromley 278-8 off 50 overs, Blackheath 195-7 off 50 overs
On a good track - and not aided by some dropped catches - Bromley looked set
for a big total with only Watty and Omar pegging them back. Then despite being
up with the rate, with Hussan, Nosher and Deano all getting in the 20s, wickets
cost the 2s with Omar 31n.o. and Brasso 28 helping steady the ship.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Hayes away
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Shooterhill 1st XI (Kent 4) by 3 wks
Blackheath 123-7, Shooterhill 122-9
"I doubt if you will see a better 4 bowlers in this league this year"
(JT 04.06.05). Phil Brown, Tom Gaydon, Mike Tuohey and Chris Stevens all bowled
well and were generally a very large handful. Then Craig De Vaal (56) played
some trade mark drives & flicks, Dean Nadio looked fantastic in the nets
while Phil Brown (25*) showed that he is a genuine all rounder.
Blackheath 3A Xl losing draw against Bromley
Bromley 186-8, Blackheath 146-8
Rupi and Clive took 3 wickets each in decent enough bowling effort. However
losing early wickets cost the Heath, although Steve Nikolovski steadied the
ship with 40 but they were unable to press on towards the target.
Blackheath 4th XI beat Old Brocklieans home by 106 runs
[Kent league].
Blackheath 212-6 off 46 overs, Old Brocklieans 106 all out
A return to normal service for the 4s. Mo Kamara (70), Ben Woodside (39*) and
Al Dunning (30) saw off a good bowling attack. Chris Collinson and Daryl Copsey
(both 3-22) scythed through the Old Brocklieans' batting. Fielding again was
good - every important catches were held - glad to see the work at practice
is paying off.
Blackheath 4A XI ~ No opposition
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI lost to BOCA
Blackheath came up against 11 good BOCA players and an expert umpire, who thought
that it was necessary to stand at both ends. Experienced as he was, the sun
and the intensity may have got to him. Suffice to say, the best way to get a
BOCA player dismissed was bowled !! We lost and we will learn, now where do
I send that letter !
Blackheath 2nd XI lost against The Charlatans home by 124
runs
The Charlatans 200-6, Blackheath 76 all out
Having started well the 2's lost their way. Only Collinson was immune to the
onslaught with 1-19 off 8 and Lambchops picked up two wickets. Despite a batting
packed team they didn't perform with only shining light being Collinson with
20 from the number 10 spot. Highlight of the day was The Nid's hand grenade
delivery, which went so high it nearly came down with snow on it!
WOMEN SCORECARD
Blackheath Women 1st XI lost to Redoubtables Women
Blackheath 45 all out, Redoubtables 48-0
The development continues and it was a great experience for the girls. Good
performance from Hannah Putney with the bat (14) against some accurate bowling.
They knocked off the runs quickly though, however the fielding was much improved
from last week so we hope to have our first win next weekend. The U17 play East
Kent next Sunday.
Right that's my lot, until next week.
Up the club,
Woodsy
Communication Bulletin - 2nd June 2005
Firstly apologies for no report last week, my computer crashed and as a result I've lost all my emails - and that's not the modern day the dog ate my homework! Anyway this week I'm up and running and here with the weekend reports.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI winning draw against Sibton Park home [Kent league].
Blackheath 223-7 off 50 overs, Sibton Park 180-9 off 50 overs
Sadly we couldn't get maximum points in this after winning the last 2, however
a good performance saw a one sided winning draw. Excellent batting from English
Ben with 80 - 4 league 50's in 4 Blackheath games is impressive stuff - and
Mel with 76. Despite good bowling from Kiwi Ben (I know he's got s British passport
but he's got a silly accent) with 3-26 off 11 and myself with 3-30 off 15, we
couldn't get all 10 wickets.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Sevenoaks Vine away by 5 wickets
[Kent league].
Blackheath 271 off 50 overs, Sevenaoks 272-5 off 44 overs
Despite a good total on a road of a wicket with Deano making a chanceless ton
(expect to hear plenty about it for the next year) supported by Chris Willets
60 and Luke Anderson 43. Then despite not bowling badly Sevenaoks stioll came
home with 6 overs left.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Hayes away
On the rare occasion that the skipper won the toss Blackheath had first use
of the Artillery strip. The standout performer was Peter Dean with 107 no, ably
assisted by Ross Titmuss and Kam Raja late in the innings. Defending 206, Blackheath
bowled tightly, the main wicket taker was again Chris Stevens, with 3 wickets,
while Kam Raja picked up 2 wickets in potentially his final appearance for the
Club this year - lets hope he comes down to watch the odd match though.
Blackheath 3A Xl beat Bromley Common by 9 wickets
Blackheath 247-3, Bromley Common 67 all out
Another 20 points for the 4's as they continue a great start to the season.
Yet another centurion as Steve Nikolovski smashing 123 not out with Jim Crutcher
54 helping set a good total. Then Bromley Common got skittled for 67 with Chucker
Jones 3-22, Clive 2-4 off 10 and Luffy 2-8. Next up it's a local Derby against
Bromley proper - a potential league decider at this stage of the season.
Blackheath 4th Xl lost Roan & Lambethans
Blackheath 129 all out, Roan & Lambethans 130-7
The day the wheels came off, derailed by some wise old heads & bodies !
85 for 0 and not a care in the world (Ainsworth 33 & Mo Kamara 54) became
129 all out, which will always be hard to defend. A few dropped catches later
and the opposition passed the total with 3 overs to spare.
Blackheath 4A Xl lost to Tunbridge Wells
Blackheath 185 all out, Tunbridge Wells 214-8
The Tunbridge skipper made a good 124, offering enough chances which could not
be taken, meaning that they posted a decent total. Shak and Sachin made a good
start, but we lost wickets at crucial stages. A great effort from Trevor Collins,
to open bowling (4 wickets), keep wicket, batting (35) and leading the team
well.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Wanstead home by 2 wickets
Wanstead 169 all out, Blackheath 178 all out
Good bowling restricting Wanstead to 169 all out with Saad Usman picking up 4 wickets. However the 1's found themselves in trouble until Mike Tuhoey (26) and Sean Cannon came together for a vital 4th wicket partnership of 50. Then Courts with 31.no. and Assad Nadir 41 helped get the Heath towards the total for a good win.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost to Wanstead by 6 wickets
Blackheath 187-9, Wanstead 190-4
A good, competitive game, although we lost. Despite 6 ducks, we got a decent
total. Fielding was good and fought to the end and had a run-out decision gone
our way early on in their innings it would have been really tight. The Barracuda
and Sachin were the pick of the crop.
MONDAY SCORECARD
Kent Met Women U17 lost West Kent U17
Kent Mets 90 -6, West Kent 91-3
This was first game for the Women's U17 team (we will play some league games
under Mets title) and the first ever game of women's cricket at the Rectory.
Good performances from Abi Carter with the bat and Laura Daniels with the ball.
A very creditable start to the team and club in this new venture. This week
the 1st XI are playing at The Redoubtables.
Right that's my lot, until next week.
Up the club,
Woodsy
Communication Bulletin - 17th May 2005
A good week all round, with all 6 teams celebrating on Saturday night. Two more wickets for the 2s and it would have been a full house.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI beat Holmesdale home [Kent league].
Blackheath 228-7, Holmesdale 167 all out by 61 runs
A good first win of the season saw the 1s get maximum points. Batting first
and getting a decent total with Willo 77, Firey 53 and Chris Willetts 28 all
in the runs. Then fine bowling from Wazza 4-70 and Dragon 3-26 saw us win with
2 overs left.
Blackheath 2nd XI winning draw against Dartford Halls away
[Kent league].
Blackheath 224-9, Dartford 152-8
With Watty away Deano led the side - doesn't bare thinking about what could
have happened! Anyway they managed a very one sided winning draw with important
knocks from John O with 73n.o, Ben Hammond getting in the runs again with 59
and captain Deano a brisk 28. Good bowling from Brasso 4-35 had Dartford at
56-6 however they managed to hold out for a draw.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Roan & Lambethans home by 8
wickets
Roan & Lambethans 140 all out, Blackheath 144-2
Blackheath held R&L to 140 with Chris Stevens picking 5 wickets and Ross
Titmuss chipping in with 2. The chase started well with Peter Dean, 40 and the
Courts 51 sharing a good opening and Nick Chuter with 40.no. seeing the Heath
home to a comprehensive win.
Blackheath 3A Xl beat Bickley Park home
Blackheath 158-9, Bickley Park 152-8
Another win for the 3As sees them 8 points clear at the top of table already
after a good start to the season. Hussnan 52 and Wale 34 getting the bulk of
the runs, and some fine bowling for Rupi 5-31 contributed to a good win. This
was also the first loss in 19 games for Bickley Park.
Blackheath 4th XI beat Shooter's Hill 2nd XI by 88 runs
Blackheath 256 / 7 (46 overs), Shooter's Hill 168 / 9 (46 overs)
A stunning batting performance by the Heath, with the top 6 all getting over
25. Luke Anderson was again the star with 74. Shooter's Hill didn't really bother
trying to get to the score, but the Blackheath bowlers, especially Chris Collinson
with 3-24 saw them end up being 9 down but nowhere near the total.
Blackheath 4A XI beat The Poly by 152 runs
Blackheath 212 for 8 from 40 overs, The Poly all out for 60.
A solid 102 by debutant Sean Cannon provided the core to a strong innings. Helped
by Rob Eslam (32), Dan Stokes (24) and Jon Taylor (20) the total set would always
be hard to beat. The effectiveness of the bowling made the Poly's job even more
difficult. Rob Morgan bagged 4 wickets for 2runs, including a stunning slip
catch from Sean Cannon.
Debutant Kapil swung the ball to collect 3 wickets.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI bt Linden Park (Evening Standard)
Just about !! Great bowling by Englishman Ben Winslade restricted the Park's
total, which was fortunate, as we struggled with the bat. Must do better.
Blackheath 2nd XI lost against Red Dogs
After a good start Red Dogs ended up with a good total (178), although good
bowling by Longstaff, 3/19, prevented a late onslaught. For Heath Yorke batted
well before falling for 27 with Carson getting 35 and Dunning 46 but the total
proved too much
Right that's my lot, until next week.
Up the club,
Woodsy
Ed - Don't forget kit ~ T-Shirts (£10), Polo Shirts (£15), Jumpers (£48), Shirts (£30) & Caps (£15) -- still available, but going quickly. Email JT with order.
Communication Bulletin – 10th May 2005
Well we’re back, a little bigger and a lot stronger ! After a few warm up games the whole club got involved in some league cricket this Saturday and even with the typical early season rain there were some good performances. The Club House was buzzing on Saturday night, and only rain prevented the grand slam of 6 wins from 6 matches.
SATURDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st XI match abandoned against
The Mote away [Kent league].
Blackheath 96-2 off 25 overs
What a surprise it rained, we came off, the pitch was unsafe apparently and we never went back on. Rawlo made a decent start with 40 odd and Firey was 25n.o.
Blackheath 2nd XI beat Bexley by 6 wickets
home [Kent league].
Bexley 191, Blackheath 192-4 off 42 overs
A good start for the 2’s with a win against their local rivals. Bowling first they restricted Bexley to 191 with Jacko getting 3 wickets on league debut. Then Ben Hammond got an important 50 odd on his league debut – must be something in the water – with Deano 21 and Jacko Erasmus getting a 40n.o to go with his performance with the ball.
Blackheath 3rd XI beat Beckenham & Sydenham away [Kent league].
A disastrous start
with the 3s being 20 for 5 at one stage until debutant Craig “The Wall” De Vaal
top scored with 90, putting on good partnerships with Tom Stevens 32 and Phil
Brown 29. The Blackheath bowlers then defended the total with another debutant
Mike Tuohey being the pick of the bowlers with 5 for 33.
Blackheath 3A Xl beat Blackheath Wanderers by 9 wickets [South Thames League]
Blackheath Wanderers 61 all out, Blackheath
62-1
A comfortable win for the 3s. Riv Monsell doing the main damage with the ball
getting 6-17 and Clive Ogbimi tidy as ever with 3-10. Followed by a relatively
straightforward chase, with Hussnan 29 not out
Blackheath 4rd XI beat HSBC 2nd XI by 3 wickets [Kent league].
HSBC 133-9 off 40 overs, Blackheath 136-7 off 35 overs
Another fine performance from the 4s. Tight fielding and bowling all round with Al Dunning (3 for 6 from 8 overs) and Imran Khan (2-29) the pick of the bowlers. Some early wobbles with the bat, but Luke Anderson 56n.o. and Daryl Copsey saw the Heath home.
Blackheath 4A XI beat Sidcup by 28 runs
Blackheath 189 all out off 40 overs, Sidcup 161 all out
A new team and a great start to the season . Batting first Andrew Steele and Omar Iqbal scored 50’s to post a winning total. Sidcup stalled in the face of tight bowling from Rob Morgan, Scott Edebiri and Solomon Legbe. Allowing everyone to have a run out gave a few extra runs than would normally be expected, but the result was never in doubt.
SUNDAY SCORECARD
Blackheath 1st
XI lost against East Grinstead away [National Knockout].
East Grinstead 239-5, Blackheath 178 all out
After getting through the first round the 1’s came unstuck against East Grinstead. Chasing 239 we came up short with Mel getting 53. Bowling 32 wides didn’t help the clubs cause.
Blackheath Sunday 1st XI won the College of Law Challenge Cup.
Held at the Rectory Field, the College of Law Challenge Cup is a charity competition to raise money for the best children’s hospital in Europe ~ Great Ormond Street. The competition involved 3 sides playing a round robin. The final went down to the last ball – with the oppo needing 4 to win. They did not get it. Notable Blackheath performances from Nick Courtney, Luke “Run Machine” Anderson, Laron Sequeria, Krishan Rattan, Raj Lakhani. Sunday skipper Scott Boswell brings home the first piece of silverware this year.
Blackheath 2nd XI beat Streatham and
Marlborough home.
Streatham and Marlborough CC 189 all out, Blackheath 193 - 3 off 38 overs
Good bowling from the Hudd with 2 - 29 off 9, Marston 3 - 41 and Tootell 3 – 36 restricted the opposition to 189. Then Yorke with 47, and Tootell with 40 put on a 132 opening partnership - the biggest ever in the Sunday 2s. Longstaff 28 and Carson 20n.o. then saw the team home.
Right that’s my lot, until next week.
Up the club,
Woodsy
