Blackheath Women's Cricket Club ~ Match Reports - 2006
Shepperton III vs Blackheath
Southern League - Div 4
3rd Sept 2006
Shepperton 3rds won by 6 wickets
A brave fight was put up, Sara Guenigault and Kelly Bibbey put
on a 64 run opening partnership in double quick time, eventually though we were
bowled out for 117 in 19.2 overs. A noble effort with both the 13 year old batting
well above expectations and the Mum only had the opportunity of facing a few
balls before the last wicket fell to leave her not out and out of batting partners.
Shepperton fielded 11 players and our bowlers tried their best to defend this
small total. Fielding did let us down a little but everyone played a whole hearted
game and should be congratulted for making a grand effort. Shepperton eventually
getting home with 6 wickets to spare in 20.3 overs.

Blackheath vs. Shepperton III
Southern League - Div 4
16th July 2006
Blackheath won by 279 runs
The squash was weak, the sun was strong, but Blackheath prevailed against a weak Shepperton side to record their biggest win in their history. Records fell like flies as the batsmen enjoyed a combination of short boundaries and sympathetic bowling, with Dawn Skinner scoring her maiden century for the club, contributing to a gargantuan total of 321-4 off just 35 overs.
Blackheath won the toss and were soon off to an ominous start as Abi Carter scored three boundaries in the first over. Together she and Skinner put on 174 for the first wicket, a record partnership for any wicket and the club's first century opening stand. Skinner won the race to the half century, pummelling the bowling through the covers and giving deep fine leg a day she would rather forget. Just as her century was looming, at the other end Carter fell to Shepperton skipper Holmes for 60. All that did was make way for Kelly Bibbey, the outstanding bat of the season thus far, who finishes with a Pollockesque average of 63.25.
Skinner was caught and bowled by Holmes, but only after scoring 109, a staggering 84 of which came in boundaries. Bibbey was then joined by Sara Guinegault, and they demoralised Shepperton further by taking quick singles for fun. Bibbey finished on 76, Guenigault just missed out on a deserved half century, scoring 48.
The mammoth total, a batting line up of just eight, and bowlers raring to go after being denied a bat meant Blackheath went out after tea confident of securing a quick win. Their hopes were not misplaced: Laura Daniels bowled Holmes for five in her third over, Sarah Williams snaffled Cottam with unplayable first ball and Sam Havering gave up the wicket-keeping pads to take two in two balls in her first over. Guenigault took the wicket of the match, if not for the bowling then for the sharp catch at gully taken by a thoroughly disabled Helen McQuinn. Tsi-Tsi Muchenje then came on and used the right hand so kindly injured by Carter when Muchenje was fielding for Shepperton to twirl Blackheath to victory. The final wicket of Jennifer Shelley, who had provided Shepperton's only real resistance in her innings of 12, came on 42, and ended a totally comprehensive Blackheath display. Skinner had done her best to prolong the match by withdrawing from catches in the covers (!) but Blackheath displayed a pleasing killer instinct and everyone contributed to a great win.
Blackheath v. Ickenham
18/06/06, 2pm, 30 over match, Old Colfeians
An authoritative all-round performance from Blackheath saw Ickenham make the long trip home having been out-bowled, out-fielded and, most impressively, out-batted.
Having been put into bat despite the sun and the dry pitch, Blackheath batsmen initially failed to stick with number three Kelly Bibbey as she took to Ickenham's inexperienced attack. Dawn Skinner, Katy Dennis and Abi Carter fell before Bibbey was joined by Tsi-Tsi Muchenje, who joined in the run fest. Continually torturing the visitors' square and deep fine legs, both hit fours for fun, with Bibbey also weighing in with a particularly vicious six.
Just after reaching her 72 ball-century, Bibbey was bowled by Kate, the returning opening bowler, but could leave the field well satisfied after scoring 102. Although, not surprisingly, the runs did not flow as quickly as they had before, Muchenje still kept Blackheath advancing with a combination of deft leg-side flicks and sweet cuts. She ended not out on 61, with the team posting 191 for 7.
Knowing the team's strength often lies in the bowling, Blackheath took to the field after tea confident of the win. That confidence was further increased by Sara Guenigault's perfect first ball which hit Deidre's middle stump. Although that was her only wicket, Guenigault troubled all the batsmen in her other overs with the bounce she extracted and tight line. Debutant Sarah 'Big Hands' Williams, after a sometimes wayward first over, came back to take a brilliant caught and bowled in her second, and in fact two more catches off Muchenje's crafty spin later on, proving that goalkeepers can be just as handy on the cricket field as in between the posts.
Two slower balls from Carter flummoxed the batsmen enough for Sam Havering to take two catches behind the stumps, and soon Ickenham were faltering. Helen McQuinn and Claire Elliot applied sufficient pressure for Ickenham to take a non-existent run, and although the umpire didn't quite join in the fielding as Blackheath would have liked, the tail was quickly wrapped up by Bibbey, who capped a great match with three wickets for just one run. Ickenham were scuppered for just 69.
All in all, it was the most impressive all-round performance from Blackheath I have seen. Even from the fielding practice beforehand it was obvious it was a strong, athletic side who wanted to win, and from the mentalistic bravery from Rianna Rossouw in the covers to Williams' sure hands, everyone looked very sharp. Probably most importantly we actually got two batsmen playing together, staying in and putting on a big partnership. We know we have the people to do that and now Kelly and Tsi-Tsi have shown us how.
Awesome.

Blackheath lost to Homesdale by 13 runs
Homesdale 105 ao
Blackheath 92ao
Homesdale won the toss and batted first. They got off to a great start, and
kept a run rate of around 5 going for 22 overs before being bowled out. Great
bowling from Snowvia Nadir, taking 4 wickets. Fielding was generally good, with
great keeping from Furnisha Lycett. Batting got off to a poor start, losing
early wickets. A solid middle order performance saw a vital partnership from
Katy Dennis (28) and top scorer Sam Havering (32) rekindle our hopes. Came within
touching distance but the tail couldn't quite finish it off. A close match that
was exciting to be part of.

Blackheath Women's 1st XI beat Hamstead by 62 runs.
Blackheath 139-5 Hamstead 77ao
Great performance again this week. Solid batting performance this week, with a great steady innings from Samar Nadir who top scored with 29no, receiving good support form Furnesha Lycett at the end of the innings. Excellent bowling attack all round once again, which should get the Kent selectors coming down to the Rectory next year. Everyone had chances of a wicket, and they were pretty well shared round the team. Fielding was keen, improvement has been seen every match. What a great game!

Blackheath Women 182 - 7
Shepperton/Hayes XI 172 - 10
Blackheath won by 10 runs.
30 over match between Blackheath Ladies and a Shepperton/Hayes combined XI.
Shepperton/Hayes XI won the toss and chose to bat.
Originally meant to be a triangular tournament, but it was decided that a combined
team would make it more interesting. Blackheath fielded first, with great bowling
from Abi Carter (3-23) and Sam Havering (4-42) and a good performance all round,
leaving the Shepperton/Hayes side with 172-10. A great run chase followed. Led
by Katy Dennis (63no) who carried her bat and got her second 50 in two days(!)
and well supported by the rest of the team, who tied up an end letting katy
do the run scoring. A nailbiting finish leaving us with two wins in two days!
Well done to everyone.

Blackheath women beat Spencer ladies by 64 runs
Although we thought we would never get the match played due to rain, it went
ahead and Blackheath won convinvingly!
Blackheath won the toss, chose to bat and scored 200-3. In reply Spencer scored
136-6
A great win for the girls this week. Batting was much improved from all who
went in, special mentions to top scorer Katy Dennis (76) and Sam Routledge (54),
with good support from Abi Carter (29). A great bowling attack from all with
Claire Elliot taking 2-14 and Furnisha taking her first hardball match wicket.
Great first time keeping from Rebecca Carlton, taking an edge cleanly to dismiss
an opener. A great game, every player contributed either with a wicket, a catch
or runs.

E Herts 181-7
E.Herts won by 114 runs
East Herts won the toss and went in to bat, posted a score of 181 in 35 overs and Blackheath were all out for 67!
Bowling was very good all round this week, although fielding wasn't as tight
as it needed to be against a good batting attack which capitalised on any loose
balls or poor fielding (or dropped catches!!). With heads dropping in the last
10 overs, the opposition reached 181-7. We batted for 20.4 overs for a total
of 67 before losing our tenth wicket, something we are still needing to improve
on somewhat. Great performance all round from S Guenigault topping the batting
by far with 31 and taking 3 wickets for only 28 runs. Look forward to next weeks
match!

Twickenham 144-5 Blackheath 72ao (35 over match)
After winning the toss, we put the opposition in to bat. A good bowling performance
all round to break into a strong batting attack. Captain Samar Nadir had a good
all round game - topping the batting score with 16! Nice keeping from Sophie
Christopher and a much improved fielding performance all round. Lots of positives
to work on next week.

Blackheath Women's U17 bt Hayes Dev XI

A hastily arranged fixture with Hayes, following a drop out by East Kent. The
pick of the Heath bowling was Katy Dennis with 3-0-6-1, and batters Hannah Putney
(22) and Sara Guenigault (22) who were both retired. It took 15 overs to get
the total ~ and more importantly the first win of the season .. actually
the first win ever !! Nets as always are on Wednesday at Sam Montague, and remember
if you want a net / match on Saturday let Sam Havering know as soon as possible

Blackheath Women 1st XI lost to Redoubtables Women
Blackheath 45 ao, Redoubtables 48-0
The first game for the 1st XI was against an historic occassion, played at the
Redoubtables ground in Beddington. Against an experienced team, from a very
well established club (the oldest Women's club in England / World) the Blackheath
XI struggled early on against some accurate bowling. However, the team used
the opportunity to get valueable time at the crease and batted out the 40 overs.
Hannah Putney top scored with a well thought out 14, after some more experienced
players had succomed to the early bowling. The opposition knocked off the runs
quickly, although the fielding was much vastly from last week which should bode
well for a first win next weekend.
