Review of the 2003 Season
Hello everybody, 2003 was a great year for colts cricket at our club which led to many youngsters playing for the adult teams, the future is looking bright at the Rectory Field!
We start off with the Under 11's who played their first league games in the
North Kent Junior League Division 1. They finished in a respectable 5th position.
They started their season with a 9 wicket victory over Bexley with Terry Stark
(25*) and Sonny Mahon (3-14) the stars for Heath. Bexley 80 - 6 Heath 82 - 1
They were then unfortunately beaten by 26 runs by Sevenoaks Vine. Sevenoaks
Vine 106 - 4 Heath 77 - 7
It was then followed by two cancelled matches against Hartley and Hayes because
of bad weather. Their last match of the season was at the Rectory Field against
Old Colfeians in a thrilling encounter which eventually ended with Colfe's the
victor by 12 runs. The star of the show for Heath was Adam Senn who scored a
whopping 28 runs. Old Colfeians 113 - 5 Heath 101
Player Of The Year: Adam Senn - For his excellent 28 against Old Colfeians.
The Under 13's had an excellent season in the NKJL North - West Division 2
and were well led by captain Anwar Khan. They finished 2nd in their division
and won their 3rd place play-off against 2nd place in the South - East division,
an excellent achievement. Heath started their season with a comprehensive 8
wicket victory over HSBC. Luke Dobson (23*) and (4-7) was the star for Heath.
HSBC 69 - 8 Heath 70 - 2
That was followed by a abandoned match against Bromley.
They were then beaten by Old Dunstonians by 6 wickets despite 23 runs from Luke
Dobson. Heath 90 - 5 OD/Cuaco 92 - 4
The Granby away match was another success for the Heath as they bowled them
out for 28 with Luke Dobson the star again with 5 wickets for 2 runs in 4 overs.
Heath 82 - 9 Granby 28
They followed that up with a 22 run victory over Old Wilsonians with Luke Dobson
(26) and Joe Wood (4-28) doing the damage. Heath 111 - 2 Old Wilsonians 89
A week later, they thrashed Chislehurst and West Kent by 10 wickets and once
more it was Joe Wood (3-11) and Luke Dobson (21*) stealing the show. Chislehurst
55 Heath 57 - 0
It was then followed by their 2nd defeat of the season against Bromley Town.
Omar Iqbal was Heath's star player with
3 - 5. Heath 68 Bromley Town 69 - 3
Heath then beat Old Colfeians by 7 runs with skipper Khan scoring 26 not out
and Luke Dobson and Joe Wood taking 3 wickets each. Heath 83 - 6 Old Colfeians
76
Their final league game was against Catford Cyphers in which they hammered them
by 98 runs. Captain Khan scored 28* and Omar Iqbal took 3 - 2. Heath 120 - 3
Catford Cyphers 22
That left them with a 3rd place play - off match against 2nd place in the South
- East league who turned out to be RACS.
They bowled out RACS for 62 and then Iqbal (29) and Khan (25) led Heath to an
8 - wicket victory.
RACS 62 Heath 63 - 2
Player Of The Year: Luke Dobson - 'Dobby the house - elf' had an unbelievable
season with bat and ball and I am looking forward to seeing his skills tested
in the Under - 15 league's next season.
A mix of Under - 13 and 15 players went into the August Under - 14 Cup with
high hopes before being knocked out in the 1st round by a talented Orpington
team. Orpington 139 - 5 Heath 60
Now we come to the Under - 15's who had their best season yet. Well led by skipper
Joe Pearce, they finished in an excellent runner - up position.
The season started poorly with a 34 - run defeat at the Rectory Field against
Granby. Granby 130 - 4 Heath 96
They fought back strongly with the defeat of Gravesend at the Bat and Ball ground.
Shakeeb 'Akhtar' Ahmed was the man of the match with a superb 70 not out. Gravesend
129 - 6 Heath 133 - 6
They then beat Sevenoaks Vine by 21 runs with 'Titch' Huwa (61*) and Jonny Hepher
(3-3) leading the way.
Heath 111 - 6 Sevenoaks Vine 90 - 9
Heath then stunned Sidcup at the Rectory Field with a 116 - run victory after
bowling them out for 21. 'Akhtar' (66) and 'Titch' (45) gave Heath a huge total
and Geoff 'Bentley' Williams wrapped the Sidcup innings up quickly with 3 -
7.
Heath 137 - 3 Sidcup 21
They then defeated Beckenham because of a no show from them (Whimps!).
An unfortunate defeat by Old Colfeians followed despite a Bentley hat - trick
and a superb 38 not out from Pearce.
Old Colfeians 170 - 8 Heath 128 - 5
Another defeat the next week against Catford Wanderers despite a heroic 32 from
wickie Charles Dorrance - King.
Catford Wanderers 168 - 4 Heath 78
The final game of the season was a thriller for 2nd place in the division and
because of 29 from debutant Omar Iqbal, Heath were the victors by 3 runs. Heath
109 - 8 Chislehurst 106
Player Of The Year: Shakeeb Ahmed - An excellent display with the bat throughout
the season, no wonder he plays for the adult teams!
I hope you enjoyed reading this review as much as I enjoyed writing it! It's
been a excellent year for junior cricket at our fine club and next year will
be even better! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
