Interested in playing competitive midweek cricket this season? A team is being entered in the Victoria Park Cricket League and am keen to get as many Blackheath players involved as possible.
The matches are played at Victoria Park, near Mile End tube station, on the three astroturf wickets. They are eight-a-side, sixteen over matches. Bowlers get four overs each; batsmen retire at 50. The league is comprised of around 18 teams from around east London. It runs from May to July.
The matches start at 6.30 and finish around 8.30. They are ideal for those wanting a warm up before a weekend game. Bowlers get their line tested; batsmen their general ability, especially hand eye co-ordination, and with only six fielders there is plenty of fielding to be done.
The standard is roughly about 3rd or 4th XI standard, but the best teams playing to higher standards.
Any Blackheath member is free to get involved. Match fees are 4 pounds a game.
Details about the league are at on the Victoria Park Cricket League website. A map to Victoria Park is available from Google. The nearest tube is Mile End; the 277 bus can take people to the ground from the Canary Wharf area.
