Round up from the weekend - 28th / 29th
The 1s had a shocker on Saturday at Beckenham, being bowled out very cheaply. Beckenham duly knocked off the runs in double time. However we had secured enough points to be assured of at least 2nd place and therefore promotion. Congratulations all round. It's difficult to bounce back first time and it's actually pretty rare that teams have done so.
Also congratulations to the 7s that will be promoted to Regional League - Met 1A division following the rained out game on Saturday.
The South Thames League finished this week. The 3A finished 6th (10 team division) and the 4A finished 5th (9 team division). Some good cricket played by both teams, and some notable wins. Ultimately, neither side was able to put a run together.
This week we have the 2s playing Bromley in what should be the game that will decide the winner of the divsion. Blackheath lead the table on 233, Bromley are 2nd on 229 and Bexley in 3rd on 216. Will be an exciting game and a goodd end to the season.
The 5s also play Bromley in the Regional league. The 5s are on 263 points in 2nd place and Bromley on 241 in 3rd. Those places cannot be changed, but would be nice to finish strongly and open up the points gap.
The 3s play league laggards Farningham and are aiming for 20 points to secure 3rd place in the division (for the 3rd year running !). Meanwhile the 4s play Folkestone 2s. Both teams are on 197 points and 20 points for either side could take them into 2nd place IF there were 2 freak results. None the less a top 4 finish would be a good effort in this division for the first time.
The 6s play Belvedere in a must win game. Without 20 points there is a chance that we slip out of the division. Fellow strugglers Farningham may beef up (their 1s are down and out as mentioned earlier) but they are playing Shooters Hill, who after ensuring their own league standing by a judicuous use of a ringer, turned out with 10 players. So who knows. However, with 20 points it all become accademic.
The 1s play Folkestone and the 7s Roebuck.
There are no league games for the 3A or 4A ~ but I will get a non-league match or two depending on numbers.
On Sunday, we play Horton Kirby in the South London League. 20 points can secure 4th poisition - and with the expansion of the competition planned in 2011 it will be advantageous to be placed as high as possible. At the Rectory, there is a planned InterClub T20 ~ managed by the Senn Brothers.
