Hello All,
Apologies for the delay - bank holiday and me out yesterday put grit in the well oiled wheels.
Well, here we are. It's league time. And so to serious cricket. Plenty to play for and plenty to win.
1s. First year back in the Premier.
Playing at home against Sibton Park
With a few new faces ~like, George Wells (from Bexley)
and a few returning faces ~ like, Warren Lee & Dave Hammond.
On paper this is this the strongest line up for many years.
However, it's on grass that it matters.
4 quality seamers, 2 quality spinners, a successful backup leggy
Batting down to number 9.
With a minor counties opening bat at #10
Patience and confidence.
Back Blackheath to win every time.
Aiming for a Top 3 finish.
2s. Defending the Premier title.
Playing away on the coast at Sandwich.
Its pretty much the same line up as last year.
Tom Slater joins Blackheath and his brother in the line up.
Tom's at Queen Mary College - probably the finest place to get a 2.2 in the whole country.
(Yes, I got one from there -- Geography). Last year Tom was at Farsley in the Bradford League.
Aiming for a Top 3 finish
3s. The Bridesmaids Return
Playing away at Bapchild.
Another year, another crack at promotion.
But this is THE Year.
Some of the younger blood is coming of age .. and will push old hands like Purdey, Gill and Turner into Div 4.
Dan Carter is excused travelling into this part of Kent for personal reasons.
Alex Price starts, with the pressure on him to continue (scoring 100's) where he left off last year
Aiming for Top 1 finish.
Promotion.
4s. After a year of consolidation & a new skipper
Playing at home against Folkestone.
New skipper Mike Bohndiek has assembled a new look team
(following departure of Ben Woodside & retirements of Umer Mian / Neil Barnes)
Abs Bygott comes in from Catford Wanderers, Predrag up from the 5s (via various dens of ill repute), Sachin Kolathai is the unknown quantity, Will Guliver is well travelled (sorry!), while Sam Douglas Freeman, Shaykul Hoque and Luke Whiley will do the hard yards with the ball.
Vic returns from Dubai in June.
Aiming for Top 3.
5s. Regional Premier Division & New skipper.
Playing away at Farningham.
Promoted to the Kent Regional League's top "1st" XI division is the Premier.
It's a countywide division - with the best clubs in East and West Kent feeding into it.
The winner & runner up of the Division are promoted to Kent League Div 5.
The standard is very similar.
So a good place to play cricket.
Dan Lucas takes on the captaincy, as Howie Shearing needs some weekend time for his studies (MBA).
We wish both well.
We welcome Mams Uddin from Catford Wanderers, Mobeen Tahir from Farningham and Andy Gould from Truro.
Mamanur Rashid and Grady Bridges will get wickets - while Jason Lambie and Mahbubul Alam will get runs.
Aim for 5th and above. Consolidate position.
6s. Wardy does it again.
Playing at home against Bexley Park.
This is the year to push onwards and upwards.
The side welcomes Will Lingard, Roland Jack and Nishant Sharma.
Al Dunning adds experience of promotions (4 in 3 years)
While Weasel remains himself. Gafa will give 110% behind the stumps.
Aim for Top 4.
7s. A new man at the Helm
Playing at home against Roan & Lambethans 1st XI
In a new division following promotion in 2010
Its Kent Regional Met 1a
Jared Knight takes over the captaincy as Jon Gill moves to pastures green (well dusty, as it's South Africa)
In comes Sam Radford from Seaford (Sussex) and Alex Browsword (Disley, Cheshire).
Simon Strutt, Keegan Subramony, Phil Hatzidakis provide a wealth of talent and experince
Aim Top 5
8s. Another new man at the Helm - although a different Helm
Playing away against HSBC 4s.
James Nurton is leading the team form the front .. and from New York or Spain .. or where ever he is this week !!
He's joined by Dutch Master James Morrison. Jon Neal provides the runs.
Welcome to Matt Wibberly from New Rover CC (Leeds), Hzbullah Shinwari from Catford Wanderers, Prathanna Jeyaratnarajah from Beddington and Cain Duncan from Greenwich.
Local youngsters Billy Crone, Waqaad Ali, Bharat Hirani get their chance to debut in senior league cricket.
Aim Top 3.
9s. The MIghty 8s Do Battle.
James Coney leads the troops again.
The team shows now changes from last year - except that Akram Khan is recalled by stand in selector Mark Bridle.
A lot to aim for, but with an unheard of 2 wins from pre-season tour, the side look in reasonable shape.
Dulwich cried off last year for no reason. This year, come 7 o'clock, they should be crying for good reason.
Aim Top 5.
Sunday.
This week we have a 1st Round of the National Knock Out Cup at Twickenham
The 2's play The Arcadian Casuals at the Rectory.
