Shooters shot down

Written by Tony Pope
The Sunday League side continued a good start to the season with a comfortable win away at Shooters Hill. Sasi picked a scorching hot day to lose his first toss of the season and when the scoreboard read 27-0 after 3 overs it looked like we might be in for a hard time in the field. Andy Watts then removed one opener with a ball that kept low while Simon Hudd caused all sorts of trouble with high bounce from the other end. Jamal took a fantastic catch, sprinting round behind the stumps to cling on to a miss-hit which was…

Battling win at Mostyn

Written by Tony Pope
Sunday 20 June. With us missing 5 of our regulars from the previous week's win, getting a side out was the first challenge. And as usual when we play Mostyn, it was almost bound to be a close, hard-fought game. Come the game, we had a good XI ready and I managed to carry on Sasi's run of winning every toss so far this season. Batting first on an uneven wicket against former Blackheath legend Rupert Staple was tough going. Spry and Vic weathered 10 difficult overs and kept the score ticking along. Both fell before drinks but Simons Hudd and Wright worked…

Wrighty cashes in against Kidbrooke

Written by Tony Pope
Sunday 13 June - a date that will live long in Blackheathh CC Sunday 2s history as Simon Wright hit his first ever league six, winning £50 off skipper Sasi in the process. The long-standing bet has been running for several seasons with Wrighty losing out previously, so that makes them about even for now. Wrighty's pull into the clubhouse wall might have won the money but couldn't quite nick the batting honours for Blackheath, which Sasi earned with a superb 96, before denying himself a century by running himself out. Anyway, we racked up 250, and with Andy Watts,…

Sunday League campaign off to winning start

Written by Tony Pope
The Sunday 2s got the league season off to a winning start with an away win against OD CUACO this weekend. Batting first again, Andy Spry (66) and captain Sasi (16) got us off to a flier, taking 33 off the first 2 overs in a partnrship eventually worth 94. After both departed to consecutive balls, Alex Price and Simon Hudd kept thigs moving nicely in a 50 stand. Riv Monsell then showed off his batting credentials with a hard-hitting 47 as we racked up an impressive 243-7 in our 40 overs. With a short boundary we were certainly not complacent, but excellent opening…

Spry batters Dulwich

Written by Tony Pope
Andy Spry produced one of the most brutal innings the Rectory will see for a long while to help the Sunday 2s to a comfortable victory over Dulwich this Sunday. His 152 included over a century in boundaries, with 8 sixes, as he took full advantage of a bouncy track with some huge hitting off the back foot. For the visitors, Biswad bowled a tidy spell but the other bowlers couldn't stop the flow of runs. Andy was well supported by Simon Hudd (44) in a century stand and Will May played a nice cameo at the death to take Blackheath to 288 off their…
