The Sunday 2s got the league season off to a winning start with an away win against OD CUACO this weekend. Batting first again, Andy Spry (66) and captain Sasi (16) got us off to a flier, taking 33 off the first 2 overs in a partnrship eventually worth 94. After both departed to consecutive balls, Alex Price and Simon Hudd kept thigs moving nicely in a 50 stand. Riv Monsell then showed off his batting credentials with a hard-hitting 47 as we racked up an impressive 243-7 in our 40 overs.
With a short boundary we were certainly not complacent, but excellent opening spells from Riv (3-35 off 10) and Andy Watts left us well on top at drinks. The OD's number 5, Ward, then produced a fantastic knock to help keep his team in touch, and with 50 needed off the last six, a tight finish looked on. Watts then came back for his remaining overs and sealed the game for us, having Ward caught for an excellent 84 and picking up two more wickets to finish with 5 for 42. Rumon wrapped up the innings with the help of some good catching from Simon Hudd on the boundary, and we had won by 33 runs.
An away win is a great way to start the league but we've got plenty of areas to improve on. Next week we are at home to Kidbrooke - see you at the Rectory.
