Butcher takes knife to Sidcup

Written by Jon Taylor

Ben Butcher claimed a hat trick to rip the heart out of Sicup's batting. Finishing with 4 wickets for 8 runs from 2 overs, Captian Butcher's slow bowling coaxed out the middle order to end the game in good time.

Blackheath batted first and scored 131, with good contributions through the card. At the top of the order Will Davy (5) started brightly before pushing a quick single to mid-on. Meanwhile Jack Sheehy (27) at the other end was hitting 4's through mid-off and cover at will. Supported by Afjal Hussain (15) the scoreboard raced on. Despite losing Butcher (9), Harcharan Mudhar (9) and Rupesh Shiyani (0) in fairly quick succession Blackheath continued to forge on. Waliur Rahman (30) and Charlie Cole (25) formed the last partnership of the innings. Cole was strong through the covers and mid-on with classic strike play, with Rahman hitting around the ground, including one straight 6. At the end of 20 overs Blackheath were 131 - 6.

In reply Sidcup started brightly, especially Ben Thompson who skillfully used the pace of Nahid Ahmed (3.1 - 1 - 15 - 1) to gather runs quickly. However with a change of bowling came a change of fortune. Raju Ahmed (3 -0 - 12 - 2), Will Davy (4 - 0 - 11 - 1) & Charlie Cole (4 - 0 - 12 - 1) were accurate and committed. Sidcup scoring slowed and then came Butcher. At the final chop Sidcup were all out for 71. A comprehensive win for the U16b.

Next game: Friday 14th.  At home vs Belvedere
