The London club got revenge after suffering defeat at the hands of Leeds in the group stages.Leeds inserted Blackheath, but openers Sarah Berman and, in particular, Leanne Atkins set about laying a good foundation. Their opening partnership was worth 71, with Atkins regularly finding the boundary. Abi Carter reports...The tightest game of this season (and one of the tightest in any other)…Blackheath faced the team relegated from Div 2 last year and came out winners by just four runs.Batting first, Blackheath struggled with Finchley’s opening bowlers and hobbled to 18-3. The normally destructive/suicidal Greer Hill played more forward defensives in one innings than she has for the previous three seasons but, alas, it was in vain, as she fell for six. Thankfully a combination of rock solid defence (Berman), youthful exuberance (Roscoe), unbridled enthusiasm (McMillan) and spanking pull shots (Livesey) dragged Blackheath to a half respectable…

This season has been by far the most successful for Blackheath’s women’s side, with the quality of cricket and performance levels far exceeding previous efforts. Blackheath won no silverware and, despite recording exactly the same number of wins and losses as WCSL Division 3 champions St Lawrence & Highland Court, were pipped to second place (and therefore no promotion) in the league; yet the season proved we can play consistently good cricket and, if we can keep the same core of players for 2011, promotion should be our minimum target.

So close but yet so far for Blackheath Women in the WCSL Division 3. The Club had its last match of the year - a table-topping showdown against St Lawrence and Highland Court - on Sunday 22nd August, with Blackheath needing to win by a biggish margin to overtake St Lawrence and win promotion. Win we did - by 49 runs - but it wasn't enough, and St Lawrence win the division by their 20.21 points (average per game) to our 19.13.
